Looks like your hope for better defense did not eventuate. The first goal was bad but the second was a true minties moment. The one thing that the Phoenix had in previous seasons was a tight defense but this has disappeared this season despite more or less the same personnel. Why this is the case is anyone's guess, maybe time has caught up with them or maybe an improvement in the speed and skill of the opposition.

First goal down to Siggy being woefully out opf position (again) and caught by TS lunging in front of him - poor keeping from PAston as well didn't help. The second one again was down to a complete failure by siggy and paston, neither wanted the ball and neither of them made a noise, just poor. Siggy needs a break bring in Boxall and hope to God that Moss is fit soon. Paston is passed it and needs to retire!

Okay. I would like to apologise for the foul-mouthed tirade at the fellow standing behind me who was abusing Paston for the second (clearly Siggy's fault) goal. Pasty of course kept us in it with some monster saves, but it's not nice to call someone a fat bearded genital orifice. If he's reading, accept my apologies, please. But please not that I am not on drugs, thanks. I'm always like that, which is why I'm a goalkeeper.

Pastons main fault in my opinion. I was calling him off his line well before he moved. Ok, Siggy should have realised Paston wasnt coming and booted the thing into Row Z, but it was Pastons ball to claim

Paston never comes off his line, it's one of his biggest weaknesses, and when he does it is late and laboured - his other failing is his unwillingness to catch and hold the ball to much focus on punching it clear - this works occassionally but more often than not lands us in trouble

Paston is always hesitant in coming off his line so I agree he was at fault. Sigmund, however, was far from blameless either though.

It was Sigmunds fault. When in doubt kick it out.

It was about 8 yards out, Paston should've been out taking control or yelling at Siggy to get rid of it. Sigmund made an utter hash of it too though, I agree.

Wrong. Just watched it again.
It bounced at 16 out for which it was far too far for Paston to get to. Sigmund was disposessed just high of the pen spot. Was not Pastons to come for but Paston probably could have communicated what he wanted done. It looked like Paston thought Siggy was gonna hoof it and Siggy thought Paston was gonna get it. Was too far for the keeper to get to.

All this crap against Paston is laughable. I'm sure that someone on here will have the stats, but i bet he has won MOM more than any other player.

still an error on both players parts, Paston should have either come out and got it, or demanded siggy to clear it. Neither happened hence goal.

Were we? We've won 3 home games all season, first against a woeful Sydney side, second when the wind scored for us, and 3rd v Heart (after total football statements). So we were hardly setting the league alight, before or after Morgan spoke out.

Paston was never going to get it so that statement is just incorrect. He should however demanded that Sigmund hoof it. I still blame Sigmund for not doing what he does best - hoof it.

That 2nd half was such a disgrace. It blows my mind how many of our players repeatedly either had the ball simply taken off them, failed to achieve the most basic level of ball control, or passed it straight to one of them. I mean for gods sake I know the A League is not up there with the better leagues in the world but that is TOTALLY unacceptable from a professional footballer.

You forgot one - getting the ball to feet with no player within 15 metres and then running with it over the sideline. Totori, take a bow

totally, I blame siggy for both goals, Paston however did himself no favours by standing there expecting siggy to do his job.

Paston is really frustrating me. He pulled off a couple class saves, made an easy one look difficult and for about the 5th home game in a row, isn't really talking to his defence. for the last three games i've seen Siggy giving him a burst for not telling him what's going on behind his back. Too old and past it? Perhaps. First half was ok in spells and the second half reminded me of our first season.

Cutesey football is entertaining but with that swirling wind today, it was time for a short passing along the ground type of game. Something else i picked up on during a couple of games last night, was the amount of times the keepers rolled the ball out to the backs to take up field. What the Nix tend to do 99% of the time is when Paston has the ball is a BIG welly up the field and giving the ball away time and again. We give the ball away far too much in this respect.

I cant wait to see Hogg in action.

Please Ricki, have a plan "B" and for a team that doesn't play hoof ball, we sure do play a lot of hoofball.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I've watched plenty of games and stand by the comments, noone can tell me that Paston is quick off his line, or that he doesn't punch the ball too often.

Have to disagree with you there. Today he was off his line incredibly quickly on many occasions when WSW played a through ball. I thought he was fantastic in that regard, smothered the ball well each time.

Last year we had the leagues best defensive midfielder ( or close to it , IMO) bossing things .The number of times he cleaned up messes so the back four didn't have to... ( and making Siggy look a bit better than he is).THis year , for what ever reason ( DSB being the weirdest I've seen postulated here) , Manny has been poor. Not saying that the defensive woes are all his fault ( he wasn't even there today) but no coincidence that when he's on song  , the defense looks much tighter.

Absolute bollocks tonight. Jazz junior wanted to leave early , he was so angry. Only bonus , I made him get his face painted so I could have a chat to the paintress.

We need money spent NOW and no more excuses about 5 year plans. There will be no team in 5 years if things continue how they are.

Very disappointed that I missed Chpimunks: Chipwrecked for this.

Oh, and if anyone ever calls for Totori to start again, they should get banned from the forum for at least a week.

lets see, a decent marquee midfielder who will not only improve our distribution of the ball but attract fans. Solving two problems with one hit.

I think we need a few players but you've got to start somewhere so one would be a start! The squad is desperately short of any sort of quality in depth.
