I reckon Bertos should be dropped after saturday. He did very little creatively, lost the ball trying to take people on with his goose step step overs and his delivery was dissapointingly floaty again.

imo we should play 442 with daniel and caceres on the wings, as they're the only players making anything even resembling decent crosses, and when ifill drops off as he likes to do he will have costa in front of him who is pacy and can get on the through passes.

While having costa up front will make it hard to get posession from our endless long balls out from the back, I was impressed with costas tenacity and he won the ball fairly high up the park on several occasions

Agreed

Bertos has been disappointing for some weeks, apart from the odd quality cross that he manages to get in, and in reality, they are few and far between. For a player who is touted as much as he has, he rarely seems to take a game by storm, say in the way That pratt Tommy Oar did against us.

At times Leo does some good things, but imo he is too inconsistant and just at the moment looks tired and disinterested, probably even more so than when he was dropped earlier in the season. It would appear though that our cupboard is a little bare in termsof potential repalacements though.

with the current greenacre situation it just proves how bare our cupboard is when it comes to strikers and whilst I am happy to see costa getting gametime he isnt an out and out striker and I fear that the bigger defenders will just turf him off the ball

Mate, it's not just the cupboard that's bare of strikers.  There's nothing on the table, in the fridge, or even down the back of the couch.

agreed, but definately Daniel and not Caceras.

I'm worried. After more than 5 years I've been here, my old man finally decided to show up. he'll be here tomorrow and will want to hang out on friday. I already planned a nice evening with pizza and watching the Nix. I hope I won't have to get him too drunk. hopefully despite all our troubles the lads will pull through and I won't make a total arse of myself!

I quite like this idea.

we don't have anybody really to hold the ball up or who we'ed expect to win much in the air up front...so a fast 3 up front with a more counter attacking, running at and drawing players(maybe Ifill Hearfield Costa/Leo) could be a better option at the mo'...

IMO Ifill has been quiet since they moved to a more central striking role. He looks frustrated by the service he is getting. When he was back playing a more wide role he was all action....lots of assists and lots of goals. He  also got to the bye line quite often. He's wasted alone up front.

My suggestion is that as he is our best player he should be playing where he is most effective. So I would move Bertos to the bench and play Ifill where he wants to...i.e wider. I would then play Costa and Caceras up front and forget about lofted crosses to them coz they are too short.

Play the ball along the ground to the front two or over the top so they can run onto it. Get ifill beating players wide and getting to the bye line and wipping the ball into Costa and Caceras.

ferk this team is overloaded with wingers...next week expect Hearfield,Daniel, Costa, Caceras, Bertos and Ifill to get a run....thats 6. The only true strikers in the team are Greenacre and Chen.
Maybe thats why we always revert to a wide game!!!!

Here goes, bit out there but don't think Bertos and Daniel have offered great value last few games. Centre midfield has been devoid of anyone who can find feet of forward players. Flanks have been more crowded than the London underground with Bertos, Daniel, Caceres, Ifill and the fullbacks overlapping. Change to 4-3-3 with Hearfield and Lochead giving the width, Ifill and Caceres finding space.

hearfields played all his junior career as a striker would be a better striker than full back and a better striker than other options you have at the moment. e.g. strong on the ball can hold the ball up can strike the ball left and right foot and has great mobility and can finish given the chance p.s. team plays better with two up front not one

Yeah Ifill upfront has been so underwhelming. He is getting no quality ball and isnt in space when he has it

yes.  best option i think too.

Unless you push Chen into the lineup? No i don't like Chen. Lets not do that, but maybe we should be putting him on the bench to atleast have a propper striker somewhere?

we do have some issues with the line up now that 4 of our top guys are out.....I agree the Ifill plays better as a winger, we all kinda knew this would be the case when he came here though - he/we have been lucky that he ahs been able to float between the two roles, but that was really only because he had Greenie doing a lot of the running and ground work to give him space. With just Ifill up front we are screwed, much like last year when smeltz was our only target guy. I'm not sold on Chen, but he is a striker - supposedly, so surely he'd be worth giving a run along with costa up front, allow Ifill to play out wide and create the chances that Leo hasn't been doing for a while and see how that works.

I was thinking maybe Mayze reincarnated.  One thing you can't accuse Hearfield of is being strong on the ball.  Can be pushed off by breathing on him.

Oughton is in town for Christmas, what are our options for loans from the states? Would free up Hearfield to be a striker.

I know you all hate Chen but he should be given a chance, he has only played 33 minutes for the Nix all season, how do you expect him to form combinations etc with the team in that time?  Plus we have no strikers at the moment so what better time for him to impress?

Just no Ferrante or Mulligan

I don't hate Chen, he makes me laugh, it's just that he's looked absolute sh*te in the short amount of time he's been on the park. Given our striking problems, if Ricki doesn't play him this week then that will tell me all I need to know about Mr Chen.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

chen is worse than mulligan and shows little interest in forming combinations. remember him sulking over that goal and getting a rark up from siggie for not joining in the team celebrations?
my team to mix things up
     crowther
lia mckain durante god
bertos brown diego daniel
 hearfield ifill
 bench
costa
caceres
gould
ricky
expect some stick for this but formation hasnt worked last few weeks IMO
bring on costa for ifill second half if hes not going well up front and drop ifill back to replace either daniel or leo for second half.

Perhaps Hearfield in place of Bertos who drops to the bench with Costa up front with Ifill

that could also work but ifill seems at his best roving the wings. could always put him, troy and costa up front and play 4-3-3

Na i'd hope for Costa or chen to be starting up front and drop out one of Caceres/ Daniel /bertos. At first I was thinking Caceres but now I'm not too sure. Maybe Daniel? I don't know. Bench Caceres/ Daniel/ Bertos, Diego and Rojas

Chen wasn't at training today, and Lochhead sat out for most of it.

                     Reddy
             McKain    Durante
Hearfield                         Lochhead
                    Brown
Bertos                             Daniel
                   Caceres
                             Ifill

Bench:
Crowther
Mulligan (need defensive option)
Chen (need attacking option)
Diego/Ferrante - Would probably lean towards Ferrante.  He is a stronger player.

To be honest, on the bench, if you need defensive cover, then Lia > Mulligan by a looooong way. Though I'd have Lia in the starting team anyway.

Forgot about Lia.  That changes things.

Back to the drawing board.

Damnit, I was liking the look of that line-up and can't think of a way I fully agree with to bring Lia into the starting line-up.  But he does need to be there.

EDIT:
                   Reddy
             McKain    Durante
Hearfield                         Lochhead
                Lia
                        Brown
Bertos
                                      Ifill

                           Costa

Bench:
Crowther
Daniel
Chen (need attacking option)
Diego/Ferrante - Would probably lean towards Ferrante.  He is a stronger player.

How likely are we to have Liam Reddy by Friday.  Anyone know?  Apparently he scored a goal for Parramatta Power so a possible striking option?  I mean Chen can play up front but he's never scored for Parramatta.
