why was Ricki, subs etc sitting in the rain. where were the dug outs they used at the Boca Juniors game? It's embarrassing and not good for their health!   The stadium should sort something out for them, umbrellas isn't good enough.

I can never figure that out either, it also applies to the egg ball as well. Do the administrators of the various codes dictate this?

Sigmund also stopped three occassions where GCU should have scored, I guess we onlky select the occasion to suit the popularity on here these days.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Yeah, same thing happened at AAMI park - specially designed dug outs but they still use A-League plastic chairs. I don't get it. Why can't the league afford at least plastic covered benches?

Yeah where have those things gone?
They're professional footballers and if they have those 'dug-outs' lying somewhere they may as well use them.

I could have used those covered dug-outs some how walking up that concourse.
That was the wettest concourse walk of my Phoenix supporting career.
Soaked right through for an enjoyable 90 minutes.
Good times. Must remember to walk underneath next time...

Neither, I don't know why.
I know it's there, it just doesn't happen like that.

Well, I think it's blindingly obvious that it's not up to us. They were used for Bahrain and the Boca matches, which had nothing to do with A-League. But A-League matches they use the deck chairs. Clearly it's up to FFA and for some strange reason they don't want them being used. Who knows why really.

Pretty much this. Those dugouts are 1) owned by Wellington Rugby and 2) to big - they obstruct the view of the pitch for certain people so have to be miles from the field - which I think is where the FFA come in. Just another downside to a multi-use (oval) stadium I guess. I don't think there is anything stopping the Phoenix investing in something more suitable themselves though.

Fuck this stupid game

How can they block the view of the pitch? Even people in the front row are about 30 feet above ground level which seems to be the norm for NZ stadium design. Its clearly amateur looking when you see the players at the best stadium in the country sitting on plastic Warehouse bbq chairs under umbrella's.

Okay, in this picture the dugout is at least 20 metres from the pitch, push it forward 15 metres what happens? goodbye view of half the pitch.

Edit: This photo was taken from 7 rows back, if it was the front row the top of the dugout lines up with the sideline.TopLeft072010-08-18 22:26:46

Our group did the exact same thing. Lesson learnt for next time.

Sigmund did nothing wrong other than save our arses on more than two occassions, one of three that did deserve the MOTM award.

Free header set piece, free header Culina - that in itself raises questions about how our central defensive pairing performed.  Siggy throws himself about but positionally he gets caught out too often and his cracking pace doesn't always help him out of those positions.

Bring on North...

100% agree.  The centre-halves had no organisation together, which was odd given Durante and Sigmund have played a fair bit together.  Sigmund seemed to have made up with a couple of last ditch efforts, coupled with the ball getting stuck in the mud a couple of times, but really... we were skinned badly through the middle.

The critical moment for me was when we brought Hearfield on.  He was pwned out there in the worst possible way.  His positioning was some of the worst I've seen from a professional right back.  Troy is obviously a great talent going forward, but in those conditions I thought his substitution on was one of the more foolish managerial acts of Ricki's brilliant career.  Porter absolutely destroyed him in that last 15 minutes.  On a dry pitch, he probably doesn't get shown up that bad, but in wet conditions, defensive technique and positional awareness are crucial for your back four.  I know that Manny's done well at central defensive midfielder and that collectively Brown and Lia weren't going that well, but perhaps with the benefit of hindsight I would suggest that Troy is more of an attacking right back option rather than one to shore up a 2 goal advantage and keep your edge of the box devoid of threat in dangerous conditions.
