Ifill definitely - thought he should've been taken off at half time cause he was hobbling around

Ifill does this though. Didn't he score a goal in one of the playoff games last season after hobbling about for about 15 minutes waiting to get taken off. He also came pretty damn close to scoring last night at about the 70 minute (?) mark. If only Greenie had followed through on his run a little bit more he would have had 3.

I love watching professional footy players in conditions us minions have to deal with every weekend.

If they think that was bad then they haven't played ninety minutes on Macallister 2 lately. Take a snorkel if you're scheduled to play there. Take scuba gear if you're playing center mid.

Off topic: can someone please start a campaign to build a roof over the stadium concourse? There must be some spare funding available from the rugby world cup kitty?

You walked on the stadium concourse? Most of us walked underneath it.

Had ice on his ankle at half time and only had one moment in the 2nd half where he did anything (to be fair he almost scored and it was a brilliant turn)

I think he's just permanently injured though

that's because he's always being clogged by thugs and the refs accept that in the A-League this is ok

A bit surprised that some supporters have bagged one or two Nix players. If the conditions had been good then fair enough, but they were shocking and you cannot judge anyone fairly.
Ricki's comment was that the game should have not been played. I agree.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Might be a little off topic. But why the hell does the A-League only have four man benches. Must be so disappointing for the likes of Rojas, Pav, Hearfield when North gets here...

And further to the justified concerns over Party boy,I don't see him getting much better as a perrenial bench warmer. He's the sort of guy who with 4 0r 5 games under his belt grows into it...but I really can't see that happening this season.

I'm too lazy to trawl, but I thought the subbing of Big Mac was weird...not only Greenie, but Ifill too benefitted from his presence on the park.

Still, on a polyannarish note,it will have been very instructive for Herbert, and a point against one of the better sides in the A-league won't look so bad in a couple of months time. HarryHotspur2010-08-14 19:25:20

I still say, we get way too defensive when leading. Its looking like a lot of goals for and against this season.

HN are you still sticking to the siggy is better than North?

Sigmund did nothing wrong other than save our arses on more than two occassions, one of three that did deserve the MOTM award.

My point is, though, that Gold Coast played quite well, despite the conditions, and were better than us...so I don't think it's too harsh to judge some players for dodgy performances.

Piss off. Hate to see us boss a game if we get schooled and go 3-1 up.

Goals don't always equal performance. GCU bossed our midfield and ran our defence ragged.

Three for me, and two for them.

your response is too cite team performance

Leggy was standing up for individuals - who are almost certain to make errors under those conditions

if a player made way more errors than those around him then perhaps so - but i expect every player made more errors than they usually would

but, hey, slam away as you see fit

I think individuals collectively make the team performance do they not? I am not even talking about individual errors, and in fact, I don't recall too many actual glaring errors from anyone caused by the conditions, just below par performances in general.

lets be honest, we could have lost 5-3.
Permalink Permalink

Perhaps, but there were games last year that we might have lost but didnt,  and several over the last 3 seasons we should have won, and couldnt get across the line.

So the If and Maybe's mean nothing to me once the result is on the board. Bloody early for people to get angsty I think

It's a tricky one. We should have won 3-1, but we could have lost 5-3. So I'm happy with 3-all. Onwards and upwards.

Lots of positives from that game. Shore up the defence a bit and I think we'll be a dominant force. It's a good Gold Coast team. I reckon if we played like that against the Mariners we'd win fairly comfortably.

Good to have things to work on. Bring on next week.

or won 5-4 (couple of Moss's saves were decent)

I was joking with mates about putting a bet on 5-2 win for us @ $125.

Free header set piece, free header Culina - that in itself raises questions about how our central defensive pairing performed.  Siggy throws himself about but positionally he gets caught out too often and his cracking pace doesn't always help him out of those positions.

Bring on North...

Not that I've read the whole thread too carefully but I have to wonder why noone has mentioned how poor Leo was in the second half, particulrly his defensive wor (or lack thereof). GCU second goal came from him missing a simple enough tackle leaving a gaping whole for their attack to move through. He, for mine, should have been subbed in the 60th minute. I would have put Troy on for Leo leaving muscat at full back and Mac upfront.

question on rules.

Sometimes when players go off injured they have to walk to half way and come on where the subs come on. Is it the rule that this must occur, if so why did the GCU player get to come on where he went off in the 88th (or there abouts) minute. Or does it depend how they go off the field  i.e. walking or on a stretcher?

Thought Hearfield had a shocker, after he came on Culina went at him time and again and I wasn't surprised when GC's 2nd and 3rd goals came from that side of the pitch. In conditions like that the game is a real lottery, was good to see a few goals and even better to see both GC's strikers mess up after beating our defense.

We've got the best water hazard, in the league.

why was Ricki, subs etc sitting in the rain. where were the dug outs they used at the Boca Juniors game? It's embarrassing and not good for their health!   The stadium should sort something out for them, umbrellas isn't good enough.

My mrs was stunned at how Mossie's hair looked like it had been blow waved and ready for a night out, despite the weather.... and equally appalled at McAllister's comb-over which is dreadful at best of times but was exposed cruelly in the monsoon.
