Lia was not on debut, but he is a risk, he is a nutter!! He will arguebly get our most cards this season.

Ferrante had a poor season last year, but was very good hte season before that. I am looking forward to him having another good year now we have a decent formation and have two attackers. Our style of play last year did not suit him, this year should be a much better fit.

Lochead is a very capable defender, who hopefully can recapture his top form. Last night was a good step forward i thought.

Ferrante was very good in season 1? What?

He has never been good, honestly. Good squad man but

i respectively disagree.

he scored a nice goal against the jets (season 1 i think) and he is also the best passer in the team imo (in terms of switching play and longer passes)

i think the only off-putting thing about him is his inconsistency.

many times in seasoin 1 he somehow got away with tackles that would have earned most other players a card (though his ability to persduade refs it was all a matter of 'slight mistiming' might change with his new 'hard-lad ' image)

I would really approve of signing Tando Velaphi.
Yes agreed. He would be a good replacement for Crowther on the bench.

Why would Velaphi leave Perth to sit on the bench of another A-League team? And what makes you want to replace Crowther? Strange logic...

Cracking goal Boom Boom, very enjoyable game to watch. Was happier with Ferrante than I was with Brown, rubbish touch for the first, but the defence was well split. Shows just how out of position the defence were in that Ferrante was the only man to have a chance to attempt to shut down Sikora. Apart from that, better defending than vs Jets, great game Ifill, Diego, and Greenie just doesn't stop running, Boom Boom brilliant with the assist and what a ridiculous goal. Just amazing. Great crowd for the shoody weather as well!

He has a good long pass but barely ever uses it so it has turned into a bit of a myth - a bit like Sarkies being a free kick specialist. Isn't a CM and I still stand by that. I think Lia is a bit of an average player too but he's still young and has time to improve.

It's a joke, bigtobz. Credit to Wellyphoenix for making me laugh for the only time in his long, long Paston deification campaign.

btw what is this about people saying that it's good we had 2 strikers? Did we not last week?

I think they're probably referring to last season where we played most of our games with only one out and out striker - Smeltzwolfman2009-08-17 23:57:45

The front 4 of Greenie, Ifill, Super Leo and Diego are going to get better and better as they get more time together....they will score lots of goals this season.

How about that...2 games and 4 goals....and we are getting lots of shots on goal.

I predict that even though Greenacre will do the business for us the real star will turn out to be Ifill. he is showing glimpses of what talent he has. Great positioning, good striker of the ball, good with his head and good pace. But what I really lke is his mobility.....he can move in and do the CF role or move wide and play like a winger.....this makes him especially dangerous.

Lovely day in Wellington.
Ifill played with real purpose, some superb shots on ,well taken goal, has the knack of being in just the right spot.
Bertos just loving the way he's playing, instrumental in all our goals to date and a what a cracker to win!
Diego and Greenacre.. good games too. When these four start gelling, working combinations and get to full fitness our front end will be looking positively threatening.
Some good performances across the park, plenty of things to be worked on defensively, but well done Wellington Phoenix!

I'll bet the management and marketing team breathed a huge sigh of relief tonight after that result, and that turnout, in spite of the weather.

Here's for some good results away and a big roll-up next home game too, Friday 4th September.

Yes there was obvious potential to build on but we were awful and oh so lucky. But if it kicks on from here we'll soon forget that.

I gave the team a SUPER LEO BERTOS apon disembarking.

LOL I talked to him after the game and he seemed pretty dissapointed not to have played. Great guy though, definately my favourite non-Phoenix A-League player.Oska2009-08-21 21:13:28
