APPLAUSE to Motueka FC for bringing 22 to the match!!

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

To be fair, every time he passed it back he had no option is front of him.  Hardly his fault.  Id much rather him pass it back and start again, than lump it forward.

round where i sat there was a lot of grumbling too, but it was directed largely at the system (so, Ricki I guess), because Leo seemed pretty clearly under instruction.  it just isn't a system that suits him - he doesn't really know whether to attack or defend.  he only ever got forward when he knew there was someone behind him to mop up any screw ups.  same thing happens with AW but maybe not so noticeable there because so often the AW are under the pump so he just ends up in a defensive wide role.

He had plenty of opportunities to either take it or play it forward in that first 30 minutes.

i agree.  but his teammates often don't give him an option, but i can't quite tell whether that's because he runs into blind alleys or they don't help him out enough (or a bit of both).

There was just one booing sesh at leo - when he passed back for the gazillionth time (and actually had space to bomb down the wing).

2nd half he was oarsum. If he needs a bit of a rev up to get him going then booing does the job.

Breeze was a plonker. Nice how he and his chums went off in the middle of the Heart team at half time.

Sometimes I wonder if we should rip into the refs so much, but there really is a lack of consistency in decisions that spoil the game. Can refs be cited afterwards for being numpties?

Ref should have been subbed. He didn't make a single convincing tackle all match....  didn't complete a single pass and as for his shooting..../

I actually thought on reflection that Breeze wasn't that bad.

But he does have an alarmingly effeminate walk!

I know, I know, its serious!

Seems to be more of a team thing.  Look at how many times we have a throw in and there is one of two of our players just standing there.

Thank you 2ndBest. Someone else who was watching the same game as me. Bertos was playing a lot deeper in the 1st half and often received the ball deep with no one in front of him. His only option was to pass back. Better than giving away posession. With the change of formation in the 2nd half, he played a lot more forward and was able to play his natural game which is why he looked a lot better. Great goal too.

Leo is coming back to form, and so is Ifill, but this side are looking hot. See you there- the record will be ours!

Damn, how good am I? What about Leo's goal?
I so should have put money on this score. At least you got me 8 points on Jimungo virtual football.

I must say, that hot on the heels of our lukewarm crowd showing for the AWs vs Paraguay, our p!ss poor 5k crowd confirms the capital city's status as a bunch of band-wagoners and girls' blouses.

The only plus was that it is ALWAYS a buzz to see so much yellow and black on display and the FZ were in mighty fine voice this game.

considering some of the absolutely terrible appalling reffing performances we have seen this one was not that bad IMO. Poor giving Ifill a card and not Heffernan, but Ifill's was a cardable challenge.

did seem out of character from the zone. thought the Fever was known for it's support.

Reffing, sh!te crowd and rather pedestrian first half all put to one side.

Although we only got a point, I thought the second half was a very good performance from the team compared with most of the season so far.

Some very good passing (both long and short) and made plenty of opportunities in front of goal.

Admittedly some shaky times in defence and some lucky breaks when Heart were attacking, but I left the game feeling a lot more positive about the team's performance than I have for quite a while.

Re: Bertos - I was one of the few down the front who were booing him for turning and playing the ball back.

Regardless of whether he's in 3-4-3 or not, when he has 50 metres clear space to run with the ball to the corner, doddles to half way, then turns and plays the ball backwards, he can f**k right off.

The club has Leo there to be an attacking player, and quite honestly he lost his nuts the last few weeks, until he took notice of the crowd giving him stick, and finally started attacking with the ball.

Full credit to him, he was brilliant when he did attack with the ball. That's all we want to see, the man back himself with the ball.

If you lot think it's fine to have half the field clear in front of you, then turn and pass the ball back, then you're all f**king mad.

People bitch about how we can't score goals, yet you're all on here saying it's ok to play the ball backwards when there's a clear opening to attack.

running into blind alleys every time you get the ball is not the sign of a good wide player. Picking and choosing your moments based on the situation and the risks involved is.

Not so sure about blind alleys, most times he had shyte loads of clear space in front of him.Would be interesting  what instructions he had been given as his 2 halves were so different.

When playing in the 3-4-3 if he advances too far up the pitch and gets caught we're f**ked. He obviously had more freedom in that 2nd half and it shows. The people booing him had no clue.

This and the "blind alleys" comments are just talking utter bollocks. Bertos needs to get up field, even if only to get the ball out of his own half.

He barely makes it to halfway before he passes the ball backwards, and that only adds to the problems of defending with a 3-4-3 when the ball is always stuck with the back 3, and the other team has barely retreated to halfway.

Did you lot even pay attention to how much space Bertos had in front of him when he gets the ball off Paston? He quite often has a good 20-30m at least to get the ball moving forward before needing to do anything.

I'll back Bertos running with the ball every single time. If he gets caught out from time to time, then we deal with it. But sitting behind halfway and passing the ball backwards, we could put Mulligan on the field to do that role.

agreed. He shouldn't push forward on a chance of a counter attack.
