Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

I see this signing has prompted yet more negativity from boredom-bots sent from the planet Miserabilis with their yawn-o-meters set to 11 in order to depress us all into submission.

Isn't pre-season the time when all football fans are meant of enjoy a few months of being blissfully optimistic regardless of the facts and truth?

i guess blissfully optimistic could be one word to describe..there are possibly jmultiple others, bearing in mind that the club are always slow to release any real info, lotsbuild up to signing players ..and then nothing..mate its been a long off season and I have to say that I am among the more negative element at this time when i say that a 37 year old signing is not going to set the pre season alight for me

To the tune of "Down on the Corner" by Creedance Clearwater Revival:

Oh Tony Warner, He was on Shortland Street
Now he's playing for the Phoenix
And he's keeping a clean sheet

Warner's transfer even rated a mention on Soccernet.com that's good enough for me

can't see why there is all the angst about signing Warner, it's pretty simple, we needed a keeper, there is nothing that says import players must be outfield stars. He seems to have the sort of experience that we could do with.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Being negative uses less muscles and so is a lot easier.

Being negative makes you sound smarter. Fact.

I'm excited by this signing. A good keeper can make a huge difference. The fact he is 37 is irrelevant, keepers sometimes reach their prime at 35-37.

I think it just sulks and asks if it can paint the bedroom black.  Sales never really took off.

Being negative is like farting. It's a perfectly natural way to relieve stress, but it's rude and unpleasant to do it in public.

Could come up with some far worse substitutes for "farting" in that sentence...

I've had time to think this over, and I'm now on the happy side for this newest signing. Yeah, he's old, but he's also very experienced, and importantly can push Paston for the starting spot.
I don't think that Crowther was necesarily such a bad keeper, but when he finally got a couple of starts he seemed a bit overawed by the situation, and was all over the place. I'm pretty confident this won't happen with Warner. Plus he's obviously spent a bit of time on the bench during his career, which proves that he's not going to get all angsty if he doesn't get some starts.
So yeah, put me on the happy team.

I'm not joining the good or the bad team until I see Warner in action, but I am happy that the people who were predicting that we couldn't sign any overseas players or even have a team on the field in October are laying in big quantities of tomato sauce to season the feast of their own words they now have to eat.

Currently trialling. Depending how much you buy into different rumours, he's signed as a marquee player for 400k p/w.

Lot of experience, yes surprised to hear he played 25 times for tranmere last season didnt know he was still active. But League 1 is a better standard of football across the board than the a-league so will be able to contribute alot. you cant bet on paston to stay injury free.

You seem to have come up with this wonderful fantasy that you are some sort of caped crusader for positivty against some evil hoarde of doom mongering baddies that want to destroy the club. But it seems to me to be based about 10% on what people actually say, and 90% on delusion.
For the record, in the past I have basically said
A/ That Terry is in financial trouble
B/ It was making me nervous when it was coming up to membership renewal time and we only had 14 players and one coach
C/ All my fears would be allayed if we started making some decent signings.
I stick by all of that, and haven't done an about-face on any of it. So it annoys me when you insinuate that I'm some sort of doom merchant who is now being made to eat humble pie.

Interesting that you self-selected as a target of Doloras' comment though hlmphil! (she didn't mention anyone by name).

Doloras - don't bother trying to win this one. The doom merchants are now all putting their exit strategies into place, just take pleasure from that fact alone.
