2ndbest did anything come of the attempt to open SkyTV's eyes in regards to how terribly rubbish their football commentary is? I think there was a separate thread but won't be able to find it on the app

Ryan I think it's shockingly amateur that they don't have a post match show/debrief with interviews

worst case scenario is he back pockets some of the morphine that he has been given at the hospital, and slips it into de Jong's hot chocolate before he does the next commentary.  Would at least make the "colour commentary" a bit more interesting, and no less insightful

I thought De Jong was already on it hence the boring, dull, monotone drivel that he comes out with.

Iffy currently tweeting about the wonders of tramadol. Just so long as he doesn't get hooked on it like those pro-wrestlers I read about who ended up giving blowjobs to their managers for their fix.

Well the injury was vague, if it had happened on camera and with thousands of eye witnesses then it would be a different story... oh wait.

It's ACC

A-League players are insured in Australia. We had that problem with paying ACC levies as well but no clue if that still occurs.

We know all about that in Christchurch!!!

Thousands here would sympathize...

Insurance companies are going to ridiculous lengths to dispute claims and are alleging obvious earthquake damage is "historical" (as if cracks in modern houses mysteriously appeared before the quakes).

The NZ insurance industry is a mess because of the Christchurch earthquakes and inadequate re-insurance taken out prior by NZ companies (re-insurance is the cover bought overseas to pay for local events) ,combined with the too low $100,000 EQC cap above which private insurers must pay out which has threatened the viability of private insurance companies in NZ.

Plenty of hopeless insurance companies in NZ are not geared up to deal with peoples' problems - some people here in Christchurch have taken to displaying banners on the front of their properties to name and shame the dodgy insurers who won't pay out. One family at the end of my street have a banner reading "Southern Response - No Response - Three Years and Still Waiting!"

AMI, NZ's second biggest residential insurer went bust because of the Chch quakes (not enough re-insurance) and the govt formed "Southern Response" to take over it's Christchurch claims which it had no hope of paying out on.

Australasia's biggest insurance company IAG bought up the rest of AMI and so IAG now cover 60% of the NZ market (they own State and NZI as well).

I'd do some research, especially if you live in similarly earthquake prone areas of NZ such as Wellington and Hawkes Bay and be careful who you insure with.

Some smaller NZ insurance companies also went bust because of the Canterbury earthquakes.

The current government are responsible for much of the mess in the NZ insurance industry because on coming into power in 2008 they ignored the Earthquake Commission Board's request for an increase in the cap above which private insurers must pay out for disaster damage (it was set at $100,000 in 1993 and not raised since then in line with vastly increased house prices). This has lead to private insurance companies being faced with large claims they are struggling to afford.

Hence the reluctance to pay out and the disputing of claims.

Correct  - insured under the FFA's "A-League Collective Bargaining Agreement" (as extended July 2013):

The insurance is with a private insurance company - probably some part of Australasia's biggest insurance company "Insurance Australia Group" (IAG) who own State and AMI in NZ too.

Paul Ifill will be dealing with his local branch of the insurers - so what I say above about insurance companys' reluctance to pay out influenced by the Christchurch earthquakes still holds.

Relevant PFA Australia document about player insurance:

http://www.pfa.net.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Fact_Sheets/PFA%20-%20Injury%20Payments.pdf

"From 6 July 2007, players are entitled to receive their annual salary, match payments and superannuation due under

their Standard Player Contracts for each match missed through injury, illness or ailment sustained out of or in the

course of employment with an A-League club. (*Marquee players as well as Guest players are not automatically entitled

to Match Payments but are free to negotiate their own protection on an individual basis)."

"Under the terms of FFA’s income insurance policy (which is now enshrined at Schedule 3 to the CBA), you are entitled

to income insurance for 104 weeks which continues notwithstanding the expiry of your playing contract. You are

insured by FFA at your actual rate of earnings, including match payments.

You will be paid directly by the insurance company and not by your club after the end of your contract unless you sign a new contract with your club."

Collective Bargaining Agreement extended July 2013 (through to 2015):

http://www.pfa.net.au/index.php?id=5&tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=484&tx_ttnews%5BbackPid%5D=4&cHash=32494252a1

[New agreement includes] "retention of arguably the world’s best player injury protection scheme, featuring full protection for contracted players, income insurance for 104 weeks for injured players out of contract (now capped at $350,000 p.a.) and career ending insurance (1 - 10 years annual salary based on age, capped at $500,000)."

mmmm....maybe not exactly "the world's best" then based on Ifill's experiences...
