12 months? Ouch! So gutted.

Hopefully its closer to 8 months and he will be ready for next season.

Guess Iffy can be a more regular pundit on In The Zone now, that is one very minor positive.

Sky should get Ifill to take over Ngata's position on the Sky team

... and get Ngata to take over Dewhurst's position. Or De Jong. Or one of those chimps from the old PG Tips commercials, any would be an improvement.

Yeah i just loathe Dewhurst more and more each week. Ngata doesnt annoy me as much as FDJ but Sky need a change there

I choked on my own vomit but last night when I thought to myself "Dewhurst has improved, he doesn't seem that bad". This comes on top of me thinking he did a good job as court-side announcer at the Breakers last season. I'm getting worried about myself....

Important to note that the PFA guarantees a players salary for two years if the injury is deemed to be career ending. Would look pretty attractive for him I'd say.

Get Paston and Ifill to take over from de Jong and Dewhurst.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Poor bastard.  Suspect that's a career ender (at A-League level at least), must be top 5 all time in the A-League.  You can tell how good he's been in that our results have basically declined in line with his performances - he pretty much dragged us along to those two 4th place finishes.  No-one I've enjoyed watching play more - the goal in the semi against Newcastle has to be my favourite ever Phoenix moment.  Serious hole to fill and the club/football need to do everything they can to keep him involved in football in NZ because he's a great representative for the game.

Normo's coming home

Just watched the goal against Newcastle again.  Still gives me goose bumps

Not a fan of that headline to be honest.

Its one thing to go through this at 24, or even 30, but at 34 i think hes done. Hes had enough trouble with injury as it is, i cant see him coming back from this. The recovery period alone is going to kill him.

Hang in there Paul.

You are a legend and my favourite football player(non-Kiwi) and the best Nix player to wear the Stripey.

I hope you can make the comeback

He'll be back. He's Paul Ifill for god's sake! He'll blast the 8 months and be back raring to go for next season.

perhaps, but I would say he is well aware of all of this without it needing to be spelt out I think.

Agree with JV on this one. This is not the time to speculate on his chances to lace up again while he has a leg in the cast. It is however the right time to go warm and fuzzy about his contribution to date. As for AJ13 comments above, I'm happy to have that discussion 6, or 9 or 12 months from now. Then Paul can make a call on his future himself, and in my opinion he deserves from us no less. A bit of dignity.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I'm not having a crack at AJ13. I think for once, this forum could show arguably our best player in his own thread some love. You don't need to tell the old dog when he is being taken to the back shed to be put down. You just scratch him behind the ears and tell him what a good friend h has been. He will know the rest...

The fallback option would be to take over De Jongs spot in the commentary box

Fuck it, he can take over Dewhurst's spot too.

Just read the article on the front page.

Absolutely gutted for the bloke. Hope we get to see him in a Phoenix kit again. Worst case scenario should be a Testimonial Match!

Hate seeing and hearing all these stories saying it's the end for Paul. It's not over 'til he says it is or Ernie does. Quick recovery and he'll be back on his feet come pre-season. 34 now, what's one more year on that, we all know what he's capable of and everything he brings to this club. My all time favourite player, god I hope to see him back in a stripey.

He did say div 10 on the news!

I had this very same thought. Educated in the game, can string a few sentences and I suspect would not be as monotone. Not sure about lead but could start on colour.

I'd be surprised if Sky or Radio Sport didn't try to get him involved either during his rehab or once he retired (whenever that is)

I would be surprised if Sky approached anyone with any quality.

Fuck this stupid game

Ifill would be terrific for Sky. There whole coverage has to change really. A better build up with a host (at the game not Mt Wellington) and panel (Ifill and whoever)

And secondly not cutting off other games to go to lame highlights shows when we could be enjoying the post match

1000x this.

worst case scenario is he back pockets some of the morphine that he has been given at the hospital, and slips it into de Jong's hot chocolate before he does the next commentary.  Would at least make the "colour commentary" a bit more interesting, and no less insightful

De Jong is Dutch, they've all got a tolerance for hard drugs.

Would love a post match show and the captain and coach post game interviews
