I'm less agreeable with these statements though.

Perhaps not so bold after all, but I'm getting a little narked over all of this taking so long. To the point where my love of the club is eroding a little. I know I'll be accused of not being a real fan etc but I'm sorry my feelings for a club go much deeper than just who is running around on the pitch.
I think Bevan put it well in another thread when he said that the club are making it pretty hard to be a fan right now.

The club are making it hard to be a fan? There's that self-entitlement again. Sorry, but if you've been feeling angsty over the past six months then that's on you. Terry has consistently said his financial woes wouldn't affect the Phoenix and it looks like he might actually be right (OK, so admittedly the recruitment could be a bit more exciting but apart from that). It's not Terry or the club's fault that people chose not to believe Terry. I'm sick of hearing people whinging about how upset this is making them. It's just football. Take a Prozac and harden the f**k up (oh and maybe take a leaf out of Ahmad's book and actually do something constructive).
It's hard when the guy you are cheering for is an insolvent property developer up to his neck in debt and you know that money destined for other creditors is being used to prop up the club.

That is just a comletely subjective statement, no different from a Gold Coast or Newcastle Jets fan saying "it's hard when the guy you're cheering for is involved in the rape and pillage of our planet's natural resources". Nobody had any complaints about Terry in Seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 when things were all hunky dory, so the only issue should be whether he can afford to run the club. Terry's creditors will have their say on Friday and I'm sure they are all looking forward to it.

No one else find it odd that Stuff's "Terry Serepisos staying on Wellington Phoenix owner: report" story quotes a "Fairfax report"? Being an SMH story (also Fairfax) it means they can run the story straight, and simply attributing it to the paper at the bottom, as they often do. Rather they've opted to rewrite and quote the story, which made me think their journos/editors were not 100 per cent confident of the details in the SMH story, particularly the "Asian lenders". Just my thoughts. If it is true he is hanging on, however, as a fan I'm not that impressed. Like most of the people on here I'm over the bad press (however media are just doing their job) and tired of the uncertainty around the club. With Terry involved I just see it continuing, unfortunately.

[Grandadi Moment=C-Diddy]

I get the feeling that the Fairfax media in this country are still trying to come to terms with the slightly favourable and potentially positive outcome of the meeting between Terry and the FFA.

Looks to me as if they are letting the dust settle for 24hrs before launching another wayward attack!

Ironically, if our season gets off to a good start (i.e. a couple of wins in the first 3 or 4 games), all the drama and angst of the last 6 months will seem a distant memory and no one will care who owns the Nix - unless, of course, you're waiting for your pay cheque.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

It's all very exciting though, isn't it?

Can't wait to see what happens on Friday/Monday.

I'll tell you one thing - if the team can play with even half the tenacity, determination and never-say-die attitude as the owner this season then we'll win the f**king league.

And if he is declared insolvent/broke/bankrupt on Friday/Monday where does that leave the Nix, with only 2 and a bit weeks til the season starts...even if he gets through I don't understand how he will be able to pay the existing wages never mind the new players we are desparate for, that Ferrari sale money will only go so far

Innit.

Half of me thinks Terry has sold the Ferrari to pay an advance fee to another WGA-style organistation :(

The other half of me thinks he is just plain f00ked.

FFS Don't panic.
The Nix will be in the A-League this season, the FFA have said so.
The way I see it, the FFA dont give a rats arse about who is financing the club, as long as somebody is.
I would prefer TS to stay on, as he is the founding father of the club, but if he can't afford it , so be it - Thanks Terry but, bring on the Phoenix Five, Fab Four, Tremendous Three, whoever.
Buy your season tickets, get your mates to get theirs, & support the team, it's our support that can help the boys on the field.

You will buy a season ticket. You bought a WRFU season ticket didn't you? I cannot for the life of me think why you would not buy a Nix season ticket but you would go and watch the LIONS play. Makes me think you must read everything in the dominion post as god given gospel.

The big question for me is "Why now?"

Why is it that the FFA have threatened taking away the club that he has gotten the funding 'sorted' and 'going to breath new life in the club'. Its not like he hasn't had the best part of 5 months to do this but has chosen not to.

Why now and not earlier?

Because of his lack of activity, it's jeopardised the success of our season with everything done in half measures. So we sign a striker from overseas...when is he going to really get time to integrate into the team? It'll be unlikely he'll get a preseason run.

All I say to Terry is 'Why now?' You can pat yourself on the back that you'll be able to tell everyone 'I told you so' but it's kinda silly to close the gate after the horse has already bolted.

I for one will be the first to apologise and join the "egg on my face" club if Terry ends up pulling this off. Good luck to him if he can.
There are two sides to this....the emotional football related side(we all want him to pull through) and then there is the cold financial realities.

The facts are, he is $200 million in debt and he wants to run a business that loses $1 mill to $2 mill a year, he also has a queue of very angry creditors wanting their money back. The minute it appears he is ringfencing some money to put aside to finance the Nix there will be many many angry people reaching for their phones to call their lawyers to start bancrupcy proceedings. And rightly so because its their money.

I find it extremely, extremely unlikely that anyone on the planet will refinance him. FFS he is only a few days off a very serious bankrupcy hearing....international money financiers don't lend to people like this. IMO Terry has said to the FFA "just give me time until the court hearing.....you owe me at least this" and they have agreed.

As sad as it makes me to say this, Terry won't be the sole owner of this club before Xmas....bet my house on it.

From Stuff this morning

Football Federation Australia and the Wellington Phoenix are tight-lipped after a report that Terry Serepisos "is poised to retain control" of the A-League club.

Both the FFA and the Phoenix said the Sydney Morning Herald report, which claimed Mr Serepisos had been able to refinance through Asian lenders, was "speculation".

The Phoenix owner has debts of $203 million and his creditors are due to meet tomorrow to consider a proposal that would see an "orderly" sale of his property.

The FFA and Mr Serepisos are in talks over the ownership of the Phoenix.

While no deadline has been set, the FFA wants a resolution before the start of the Phoenix season, which kicks off against Gold Coast United on October 9. An announcement is possible by the end of the week.

Agreed just 18 days till the first game nowFFA either need to say "Terry has proved he has the capability to run the club going forward, meeting all the committments expected of an owner".

I think however the provision of that statement is now in the hands of Terry's other numerous and substantial Creditors at the upcoming meeting. I for on am still far from confident Terry will be allowed to continue, but will be happy to line up against the wall with others in preperation of the egg throwing if it occurs.

I'm picking new owners before the start of the season still. Otherwise FFA will be financing the team if it falls over in the regular season until new owners come on board. They have had to do that to other teams to keep the competition running in the past, and I reckon that they would come under a lot of flak if they financed a New Zealand team. I'm surprised they havent been stricter on Terry before this with his well publicised issues. He  must be very persuasive in person

(Stay away from me Terry, it was my shadowy half brother who said all that   )

Consider the source of the "speculation" in the SMH. It's Michael Cockerill, who has previously offered insights along the lines that the FFA like Terry and they will not pull the plug unless they have no choice.

Getting pretty close to the start of the season though. A bit too close for us to get going again? I know we have built a team from nothing before and this season we will have enough for a team - but we did finish rock bottom on our first season.

This can't be good for the moral of players/coaches/fans. And to do it so publicly.
