A word of caution.  That Western Gulf person is Asian so maybe this is whom the article was refering to... I really hope not though.

So we will know by the end of the week whether the DoomPost and NBR will end up like this?:

if Terry does end up retaining control of the ckub I'd expect there to be a fair bit of the ol' egg on face amongst the posters on here too....in fact I think I'll start a thread if it does happen for all you doubters to post an apology for ever doubting Terry.

News from the SMH appears to suggest Terry will stay on...if he has the money then, well, I guess this is ok news.  Proof will be in the pudding though, both in terms of recruitment on and off the pitch.  Can't help thinking this is a missed opportunity.  This whole period has been absolutely terrible for the club, it has gone on far far too long - I think whether you are for or against Terry you would agree that this has been an unseemly episode for him and the club.

Aye, regardless or your views of Terry continuing to run the club this has dragged on for so so long and has been vastly detrimental to the core business of the club during this pre-season, that of player recruitment and squad improvement.

Have the FFA been dithering over this and not taking decisive action or has Terry managed to spin them a line to buy more time?

Feel like the house of cards is still precariously sitting there waiting for the final nudge to knock it all to the floor...

Sorry did I miss us:

- filling our squad of 20 players

- hiring a GK coach

- hiring a meaningful backroom staff

- appointing a fulltime CEO

- paying the coaches back wages

- fixing the generally terrible view of the club right now

Terry paying whatever is required by the FFA does not actually solve any of the real problems the club faces - the people who have been critical, and clearly I have been one, have just been pointing out some of the issues the club faces. Let's see if those are dealt with, because this is not about Terry, it is about the club. If he gets things back up and running then I will happily take one of those (metaphorical) eggs

I'll make a bold prediction:

1. Even if Terry manages to pull the wool over the AFA's eyes, his creditors will not allow him to maintain a losing Nix club while he still owes them substantial amount sof money.

2. There is no money for Terry from this 'Asian source' and the only money likely to come out of Asia is the type that would wind up with someone going to jail with their farts smelling of latex.

Perhaps not so bold after all, but I'm getting a little narked over all of this taking so long. To the point where my love of the club is eroding a little. I know I'll be accused of not being a real fan etc but I'm sorry my feelings for a club go much deeper than just who is running around on the pitch.

I think Bevan put it well in another thread when he said that the club are making it pretty hard to be a fan right now.

It's hard when the guy you are cheering for is an insolvent property developer up to his neck in debt and you know that money destined for other creditors is being used to prop up the club.

Again very well said JD.

My feeling is that Terry will stitch up some last minute deal with the FFA assuming his other Creditors allow him to do so (another deadline looming for Friday I think from memory) and his ownership will remain intact howver if that is the case we will continue to limp through the season from crisis to crisis as we have for most of the last 18 months.

Let's hope that doesn't happen.

If those issues get sorted, then this is very good news.

I still highly doubt Terry's ability to finance the club properly going forward...having said that i still like Terry and his passion...

All the issues on/off the field in the past 12 months or so have proved that Terry doesn't have the ability to finance the club anymore...

Let's face it, he has a debt of more than $200M and the Nix is losing $2 a year...how on earth could he finance the Nix going forward...if he really could we would have done all these things a long time ago as JD pointed out:

- filling our squad of 20 players
- hiring a GK coach
- hiring a meaningful backroom staff
- appointing a fulltime CEO
- paying the coaches back wages
mmmm....wait till all the issues sorted and the final announcement...until then...i guess it's still waiting time for us fans...

I'm sure Nippert will be on the trail to let us know the source of this new asian finance. I'm assuming it's not WGA and that Terry produced documentation for FFA. If there is genuine evidence that he can keep going, I'm all for giving him a shot, he deserves it. This season will be tough whoever is funding it but should have absolutely nothing to do with whether you support the team out on the field. Good to hear their is interest from other potential backers if it doesn't work out though.

I also think Ricki seems to have done a pretty good job of managing the offseason on a tight budget. Not ideal but I still believe we can play better than last year with the squad assembled. The team needs to play well together and focus on a little bit of individual improvment from everyone.

I think the appointment of a development coach and assembling a development team to play against the NZ ASB cup teams is significantly more important than these. Lets Ricki watch younger guys, keep non-first team members match fit and bring back guys from injury more easily.

I'm assuming Ricki has 20 players lined up by this stage, just holding up to see if some last minute improvements can be made. We may have missed out on a couple of players due to funds and uncertainty, only a couple of people would know for sure. It's entirely possible we would have missed out on Riegters with different backers. The fact that there are other backers in place will help with the uncertainty without them doing anything.

Is a goalkeeping coach really that important? Both our keepers are old salts, not sure it matters too much, with the budget tight I think this was a sensible area to refrain on.

Nathan is a full time CEO. He doesn't have another job as far as I am aware. Whether he is a permanent CEO is another matter, but he seems to be doing a pretty good job in difficult circumstances.

I'm not familiar with what backroom staff are needed. Obviously marketing could do with a lift, and if done well should pay for itself. Needs to be done well though. Do we have physiotherapists etc?

Sorry did I miss us:

- filling our squad of 20 players - important, but there is till time

- hiring a GK coach - not overly necessary, I'm pretty sure the keepers can sort themselves out.

- hiring a meaningful backroom staff - by backroom you mean what?

- appointing a fulltime CEO - again what for? to front up to the media, doesn't Terry do that often enough, and besides with him selling the peroperties I'm sure Terry will have more time to be the CEO.

- paying the coaches back wages - if the mney is there I'm cionfident Ricki will be paid, and if it was a huge issue then I'm sure Ricki would have walked.

- fixing the generally terrible view of the club right now - terrible view by whom, the dom post, NBR, you?

I'm with JD on this. If Terry funds the club properly, then I will gladly wear that egg on my face because for me, this is not about Terry per say - its about the Phoenix. As it is, I don't think it will happen or allowed happen by his creditors.

Good write up by Piney and he is right, regardless if we get that coveted striker, our preseason has largely been busy for the wrong reasons. I don't expect us to qualify for the play offs this year and thats just my realistic expectation.

Like a lot of failed SME Companies the owners continue to fund well past the point that they realise was the end.
Terry hasnt just reached insolvency, he has been in this position for long period of time.

JD is 100% correct. I for one am not going to gloat over anyone who thought Terry was surely doomed. I thought that Terry hanging on would be best for this season. I may well still be wrong about that, and Piney's blog sums up my worst fears.

But I also am still suspicious of who exactly the White Knights are - the continually changing DomPost story of the Phoenix Five Oops Sorry We Mean Four or Was It Three filled me with confidence about as much as Terry's assurances that the WGA loan was on its way. And frankly I will be happy if at least Burgess gets egg on his face and Nippert has to get his journalist smack from elsewhere, no matter the fate of the Nix or of Century City Whatever.

I would love to see what evidence Terry provided to prove he can fund the team.

The FFA wont want to have to cover him should he drop out so imagine there must be some money in a NIX kitty somwhere that can not be touched other than to fund the NIX.

Atleast i hope so.

Good luck to Terry, now that your staying we'll need it.

(if he has got an overseas loan atleast he can pay off his debts which are carrying 20% + interest rates which should make balancing the books a little easier.)

No one else find it odd that Stuff's "Terry Serepisos staying on Wellington Phoenix owner: report" story quotes a "Fairfax report"? Being an SMH story (also Fairfax) it means they can run the story straight, and simply attributing it to the paper at the bottom, as they often do. Rather they've opted to rewrite and quote the story, which made me think their journos/editors were not 100 per cent confident of the details in the SMH story, particularly the "Asian lenders". Just my thoughts.

If it is true he is hanging on, however, as a fan I'm not that impressed. Like most of the people on here I'm over the bad press (however media are just doing their job) and tired of the uncertainty around the club. With Terry involved I just see it continuing, unfortunately.

Doesn't appear to have changed anything. As far as anyone knows the Asian backers could still mean WGA, and we don't know whether the FFA are genuinely giving Serepisos benefit of the doubt or preparing for a transition.

I'm going with the logic that if it's good enough for the FFA it's good enough for me. The FFA know that it isn't just about the money and will definitely have some (but not all) of the things on your list as being non-negotiables.

Terry still has to navigate his way through a potentially tricky meeting with creditors on Friday and a court appearance on Monday, however. He seems confident though. Either he knows he's got it sorted or he has a f**king incredible poker face.

My reading of your position is you must have funds to get tho a good part of the season...

However at some point you either unite behind the team and encourage as many others to do so ... or keep wailing and drive people away...

The success of the Nix's as I see it is largely in the hands of the good folk of Welly .... average over say 14, 000 and you make heaps ... average under my guess 9, 000 and you invite the fab 5 in...

So it's time now to go to matches, buy shirts, ring talk back radio stations, make heaps of hits on the football tags of NZ media companies ... [remember the quality of the league is lifting each year and with Harry & Emo back it should get heaps more media]

Accept this is a re building season and then be happy when you play well ... set the expectations low and build...

Remember too if you can hang in there for a tad longer the new media will be done and that has the potential to change everything...

[Grandadi Moment=C-Diddy]

I get the feeling that the Fairfax media in this country are still trying to come to terms with the slightly favourable and potentially positive outcome of the meeting between Terry and the FFA.

Looks to me as if they are letting the dust settle for 24hrs before launching another wayward attack!
