I know alot of people aren't gonna like this suggestion, but I really think it could work.

You know we've played in a number of those venues with embarassingly small crouds, right?

But that was when we were Wellington Phoenix. Watch the crouds flock in once we're called New Zealand Phoenix.

It's simple metrics innit? No other factors matter.

It was also generally when we were under Herbert's control. No offense to the man but his style of football would turn off a horny nympho standing naked in the public baths in Rome.

There was a reason for calling Westpac a fortress because we put 10 men behind the ball and left Ifill up front by himself. I must admit it was hard parting with my cash to watch the Phoenix play under his management. Trust me, Aucklanders and other New Zealanders will come along if there was end to end enterprising football like we attempt to play now.

There is absolutely not evidence to backup that fact.  We played sexy football last year were near the top of the league and got the lowest croud at Eden Park yet.

It does not add up and if forced to do it would be the death of an A-League side in New Zealand.

When we did get big crouds the FFA took all the money...

the  #alignment of the Phoenix and the All Whites was good for both of them at that time

maybe the lack of it is hurting them now?

The big crouds for Beckham, for the All Whites and for the finals. It was a matter of proving it could be done, and once it was done, why shouldn't it be done?

The enormous burst of good will from that is gone. How to get that back is the key. I do like the ASBP games on the tele. Something of a start, but not a solution.

If we are splitting this team 50/50 down the middle between Auckland and Wellington game wise, obviously we need to the same with the Fever geographically.

Could I at this time nominate Doloras and Jeff Vader for a place on the exec and the podcast?

Anyone second that?

Er, J82 has a point that ACFC is in no danger of bursting the bounds of the 3,000 capacity Kiwitea, even on OFC fixtures. And the reason - I've said before - that I don't go to more ACFC matches is the anti-Nix stand of the 248 Crew.

Look i know that but i'm working on my long game theory that 2 x A league franchises in NZ, (Wellinton Phoenix and Auk City FC or ACFC.02 or whatever) is only way to satisfy FFA's desire for a greater return from the NZ market. In this scenario FFA and other stakeholders would invest in marketing the A league in NZ, we'd at least have derby games, corporate Auk would get in behind, we'd find a marketer who actually knows about building football clubs and then the good people of Auckland would start following their team in the A league in greater numbers than the semi pro lot playing amateurs at Kiwitea. I'm a visionary and an idealist, ok?

I know it is a long range optimism, but the best way to get us more stable is to have more well-run, stable and financially OK clubs.  Would even have better shot at decent TV rights.

Welnix is a rare find - financially astute, not broke, and football-loving. We all loved Terry but money eventually did run out. So it would be a major coup if therewas any other consortium wanting to give an Auckland club a shot, UNLESS it was to give the existing Auckland FC a leg up to A-League. It would be easier than growing a new club from scratch, cutting into ACFC fanbase etc (Sydney City argument).

With all this change in the air I'm really looking forward to next season.  Every game so important!

With my new NZ Nix gear on I'm hoping we will play Australia Victory in round 1,

Then I'm looking forward to the match against Australia Glory,

and hey, another cracking trans-Tasman match against Australia City - not sure which one ... it doesn't fudgeing matter!

A trans-Tasman International derby every week!

I know, I know, its serious!

I hate that they call the Auckland Warriors the New Zealand Warriors and it is plain stupid to change the name of Wellington Phoenix. What next - a compulsory game every year in Temuka? This foundation season ticket holder is going to become an ex season ticket holder very shortly - I'd rather we didn't carry on than become the New Zealand Phoenix and have three games in Wellington a year.

that park the bus mentality was mainly to try and snatch draws on the road, the football at home might have been direct but it wasn't overly defensive.

People turn up for passion.

You want to see your top players give a damn.

People turn up for Daniel. For Siggie. For Tim Brown. For Leo. For Ifill. For Nathan Burns. For Dura. For Manny. For Chris Greenacre. For Paston. McKain.

and for that bit of magic- Rojas, Fred, Vukovic, Bonevacia, Felipe, Smeltz, Brockie, Kosta

and all the other players I haven't mentioned, anyone who has worn a Phoenix shirt...Louis' debut goal, Boyd and Hicks' late strikes...

But yeh, not losing at home doesn't hurt!! Is almost a bit of a guarantee of a good time...

Yeah I just had a quick google and didn't find any numbers, people are saying on forums however that the NBL still pays Fox, of course you have to take that for what it is.

What I have read is that the deal is for five years but Fox gets to terminate it at the end of this year if the ratings and fan engagement isn't there. It's also conditional of the NBL setting up a team in Brisbane. Regardless of whether its forty million or if the NBL is paying for it to be broadcast the original point was that Fox would up the money for the A-League just because they spend so much money on other sports which is obviuosly flawed. Even if they are not now, in the past the NBL had to pay to be on TV.

I just find it really strange that the head of the league, an 85 year old man who owns shares in one of the clubs, is able to give advice to another club to tell them how to manage their brand.  It's completely bizarre.  Why does he have any say at all?

Surely there has to be more to this than simply him deciding that more people would support the Phoenix if they were called NZ instead of Wellington - it cannot be that simplistic can it?  Surely they have one shred of analysis to back this up, or it is being driven by NZF or possibly SKY?
