FFA are too busy dealing with the 3-4 clubs that are on the verge of folding ...

I asked about this, and FFA are keen to give us the extension, it's Rob Morrison and Frank Lowy trying to find a middle ground in terms of what they want in the agreement.

Not panicking yet. That will change if the season starts and we don't have a license.

FFS, Hitler supports the Nix?

I don't think this was thought through.

That was great, except for the bit when Hitler declared himself to be a Nix fan.

Reminds me of Morrissey telling David Cameron "you're not allowed to be a Smiths fan"

To be honest, this is the least of my concerns.

Pressing issues for the FFA are:

Viable ownership for the teams that are falling apart. As much as 4 of them. If they go, then the league is basically poked that a licence extension makes no difference.

Getting the PFA corralled and in line. Getting a collective bargaining agreement sorted and a transparent salary cap is pressing in light of 'financial mismanagement' claims leveled at the Roar.

The Phoenix will be left to operate in perpetuity while the above are more pressing issues. As others have said, we have been offered 5 and we want 10. The reality is, our participation in the league is guaranteed for at least 5 years so I don't get all the angst over this. Welnix are keen to continue and the FFA are keen for us to continue. Cool your jets.

Well, let me put it this way. I support Hellas Verona FC even though most of their fans are notorious racist and fascists. And I support the Nix even though you do as well, Jeff.

How? We have a guaranteed 5 year licence? How many players sign a deal and think 'hmmm in 5 years time.....'

they just have to take our word for it that we are guaranteed that licence.

If nix with a licence to the end of the season and a club with a licence for the next 20+ years offered you the same deal, you'd pick the club that is guaranteed to still be around for the length of your contract.

Yes, but I don't think that the Welnix are keen to continue with only a five year license Jeffrey.

I don't know enough about the rest of the owners and can only really judge Gareth.

In my opinion putting aside all the bluster he actually strikes me as the sort of guy who will walk away from something if he isn't getting what he wants.

Welnix want more than 5 years to have a proper, long term business plan for a new stadium other investments. Those FFA dickheads may think they can kick out the Phoenix in a few years when the found more Aussie teams. The contribution of the Nix to than league is the same than all the other teams, not giving us a longer license is just ridiculous, I can't think of any argument against it.

you'd still think that with all the BS around other clubs at the moment that the FFA would love to have a stable, committed group of owners locked in for as long as possible. Plus if they continue to dick us around they're not making themselves look like a good organisation to go into business with to any potential future club owners. Of course it's not certain that they will act in a rational or sane manner unfortunately.

Not a stunt, just proper planning, you cant go to anyone and say we want a build a stadium, but by that time that thing is build your 5 license is up.

If the FFA were to give us a licence with no expiry, looking into a fit-for-prupose stadium would make long term sense.

I've met Lib Petagna a couple of times in a professional context and can say that he also seems to be someone that sticks to it and a good guy as well. People don't get into the position that they are in by throwing away their toys and storming off, they are persistant and driven. In this forum we also seem to forget that there is more to Welnix than Rob and Gareth, in fact Gareth seems to have lost his passion for the Phoenix a couple of seasons ago, yet he's still involved AFAIK.

Rob Morrison talked about the license extension last night at the Fans' Forum. The term he used was "two way street". He emphasised it is NOT JUST about the FFA getting what they want, the deal has to be what WelNix want too. He said that's why they haven't taken the 5 year deal, yet.

He also talked about a number of factors, including but not limited to, other stakeholders ante-ing up e.g. the council, the stadium, etc.

The overall impression I took from this is that a deal will in all likelihood be done, but that WelNix are working hard to get the right deal, nit just ANY deal. He didn't explicitly comment on whether the Petone proposal was "a stunt" or not. But I think his comments about the stadium, overall, can be interpreted that the Nix are looking to be committed to Westpac, and making the best of it they can.

The next meeting with FFA was mentioned as early September. And other A-leauge clubs back the Nix being in the leauge.

I don't think what I said about Gareth was having a go at him. I just think it is correct. I don't agree with a lot of what he says but I do think he has some firm beliefs, doesn't tolerate being mucked around and if he doesn't like something he will say so and walk away. That's not an insult at all - he is a man of principle (it's whether you agree with his views which is the key). I believe we need and deserve more then 5 years so would completely understand if he walked.

If you view the history of myself and 2nd best you will see we started off with a bang and in the last few years have been fairly tight.

Psycho analysing Tegal and lately Napier, would take a number of pages so best we not go there.
