What do we have on our stripes now?

The ones made for CCM and the Planes don't have sponsors, but is that because of ACL rules? A company with an already boxed logo (like telecom) would work, but the money has to take priority over how it looks on the shirt

You know we belong together...

f**k. Man that is really going to hurt.

Sony was a major sponsor and a major brand hard to think of anything beter except maybe vodafone.  Came on here to have a good old discussion on everton and the phoenix doing well but this is a  big shock. Dam

Is there any word on how bad this will be? Maybe i'm naive. But the phoenix will defnitly be playing next season? How much was sony contributing compared to Terry?

ASB are owned by Commonwealth Bank in Aus, so maybe they could play with that sponsorship also (such as when they're away, like Sydney do with alternating sponsors)?

Mind you, probably not the best time to be going to banks to ask for money.

I think Jetstar is the best suggestion in here so far.

If I may be silly for a moment (most of my posts are), there is a coffee shop chain up here called Costa Coffee. Shame they are not present in NZ, would be quite fitting...

Would battle to support the Nix if that happened. Costa Coffee is owned by a Gooner...

Hopefully we can secure a new sponsor cause Terrys pockets must be pretty streched atm

sadly, they'll not be stretched by the weight of 'coin' in them

Loss of 3 million a year is a biggy.....thats the equivalent of 100,000 tickets sold.
We can't do much in this regard but we can keep supporting the club by buying the merchandise and getting as many people along to the games. The club will need bums on seats next year.
Fingers crossed that they can find another key sponsor. But it is hard to imagine any company forking out that much dough these days..........

3 million, as little sa I know about the Phoenix's finances, that seems like a huge amount, considering the salary cap is only AUD 2 mill (?). I realise we have to finance a marque player and off-field costs, but is that figure really accurate?

If it is, I would agree that it would be very very tough to get a matching sponsor to take over the branding rights

Cue a New Zealand company to support the local team - Telecom, power company........

Why would an NZ company sponsor an Australian team?

After losing $61 billion, AIG might be looking for a more downmarket team to sponsor

Ii don't believe that is close to accurate.  TV dollars pretty much covers the cap, and we're not making a profit so I can't see any way it is $3 million.

I bought a Sony camera on the strength of that sponsorship. Never done that sort of thing before.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I would like the Chow brothers to step up their involvement and support of the Phoenix beyond Exodus Gym and throw the full weight of Mermaids behind the Nix and emblazon the Merms logo across their shirts......That way I'd feel much happier as even more of my money was going towards helping the club I love.....

Awesome suggestion Coxey.

I understood it would amount to 3 million over 3 years if all targets were hit and that they had the right to review after 2nd year.

Effectively, if we hit our targets (which I doubt we did) its 1 million per year. I'm guessing part of it would have been exposure for the play offs?

I can see it now. Blue sponsor box, big white letters "JOHN KEY!", beneath it in smaller white letters "Authorised by Ben Wilson of blah blah...."

I'm pretty sure the EFA affects sports uniforms too

In all seriousness, I doubt Jetstar would be an option since their parent company is a sponsor of the league. Could come across as favouritism if a league sponsor affiliate with an individual team. IE - We could beat Gold Coast to get into the Grand Final, then some some idiot might come out and say "The league told the ref to favour the Phoenix to make Qantas happy, so that they'd get more sponsors exposure from playing in the Grand Final...."

I'd nominate JB HI-FI. New-ish to Wellington, so some more exposure wouldn't hurt. The company is expanding throughout the country (Wellington is the first of a few stores to be built outside Auckland) so it would be good for fans in Christchurch etc. They already exist in Auckland so it'd be good for our fan up there.   They're an Australian company so it's trans-tasman exposure, whereas an NZ-only company could only be effective on one side of the ditch. And hey - the colours are already there!

this could not have happened at a worst time for the club. It will be dificult to get a significant sponsor with companies watching their wallets now more than ever.
i work for a large corporate - solely based in NZ & Aus and did suggest to our marketing manager Phoenix Sponsorship, this was before sony were involved - sort of saying that the Aus part o fthe firm could also contribute as they will also benefit - it just wasnt a goer they dont have that kind of money for sponsorship and I'm sure they are not alone.

lets hope we avoid sponsors like "coffee club", "subway" etc, after sony we are going to need a big corporate to get involved to maintain the same momentum. vodafone would be nice but doubtful, Telecom? (ugh), Samsung?? (Melbourne) Panasonic maybe? theres pleanty of companys out there is just a matter of who you want o make the  effort to chase.
