Chuffed.  Really rate Oppo phones so both our teams repping their phones is a good thing.

Everything you need to know about McDonald's is that teeth are optional for all their "food". Just gum your way through it.
I fail to see the connection between junk food and a sports club.

at some point or another junk food and soft drinks will be banned from sponsoring sports (or anything) that kids have access too. It happened to tabacco, alcohol is being targetted now. It'll mean one thing and one thing only, the money that sports organisations rely on will dry up. There are only so many acceptable businesses out there and they have limited resources.

In the mean time we should accept take the money and be happy that it's there for the club to use and grow.

Yea spot on that eventually it'll be banned.

The KFC sponsorship of Aus Cricket and NRL has always been shocking.

It always felt weird getting certificates with a Macca's voucher for player of the day for the boy.

Still, they pour big money in and if they leave hopefully someone else steps up else we could see a significant dry up of funds and as such talent if other countries pay more with a big Arby's paid budget.

Also to be fair it's not like there is a big connection with Spark or Oppo and a sports team.

It's all for that money's.

May not be everyones ideal sponsor but there dosnt seem to be any of those "healthy" sponsors putting their hands up to sponsor the Phoenix. If it helps cover the expenses and helps the club recover from the last couple of seasons and keeps us viable dont see an issue.

that seems to be the biggest issue with the sponsors that "people" want, they arent the ones handing out the dosh. I reckon you'd be hard pressed to find a company willing to give its cash to a sports team that everybody was ok with.

At least we are not sponsored by Altrad. Like the all blacks.
Altrad who supply industrial services for oil and gas exploration amongst other things. Now in court in europe over corruption and bribery allegations.

Counterproposal: McDonald's put nutrition information on their food and offer low carb / low-fat options. Plus they're unionised so their workers get a fair shake. Not my favourite eatery but they're no more morally reprehensible than your average mum-and-dad cafe which sells hypersugary treats and treats the staff like crap.

Great bit of whataboutery and over generalising all in one.

Yeah, comparing McDonalds to a 'mum-and-dad cafe' is like comparing apples to oranges. McDonalds is a international corporation which is partially responsible for one of the biggest culture shifts in food and is therefore at least partially responsible for the obesity epidemic. A Cafe is nothing more than someone trying to make a living - most cafes don't even bother trying to advertise 'healthy' options like McDonalds does to white wash its appearance.

Personally I have no problem with McDonalds but the differences are clear and obvious so no point even trying to compare them.

Don't forget INEOS, petrochemical company known for their impact on the environment and also sponsor Nice in Ligue 1. Absolutely infuriating what NZRU have done. Haven't been watching the Oil Blacks since their name has become affiliated with them.

They also have healthier options available, buy sliced apples instead of fries for example.

Mcdonalds, at least, has made the most effort of all the fast food joints to provide healthy options. And, while it's owned by a multinational, the stores are owned by local franchisees.

The question I have is: would people criticise New World if they decided to sponsor the Nix? Even though they sell alcohol, and cigarettes, and junk food, and petrol as well as fruit and veges and healthy products.

of course they would, they'd use it as an excuse to highlight super market owners making more money than they needed to.

Unpopular opinion perhaps - fast food sponsorship shouldn't be put in the same category as betting, gambling, alcohol and formerly tobacco advertisements. It's just not in the same addictive category, and we can't get holier than thou about everything (although I'd still condemn any gambling or alcohol sponsorship).

I'm not one for a blanket approach of "personal responsibility" as that just doesn't work, but you have to draw the line somewhere, and IMO Maccas just isn't as bad as all those other things.

McDonalds pumps plenty of sponsorship money into community football in NZ - would we rather turn them away and not take the money and have opportunities for children and adult become more expensive and less accessible?

Yep, you can categorise individual product lines potentially - like soft drinks, but not the restaurant as a whole.

Until so called "healthy/ PC correct options" start fronting up with money dont think the club has much option but to take the cash. As long as they stay away from Altrad and Ineos type companies i dont give a toss about gambling or alcohol sponsorship.

A "healthy/PC Correct" company that is trusted by 94.5% of New Zealanders (aged over 12), that also has a substantial amount of money, is Pfizer.
Have they been approached for sponsorship?

That'd be a pretty stiff ask to get them on board to be fair.

Yeah, its a lot for an individual but hopefully businesses are willing to take them up. I'm hoping that the Nix are smart enough to ask AMI Insurance if they want to buy the Kelli Brown one.

Also as well it’s not a lot for some of the individuals who are fans, have a few (or no in some cases) more years of work left, a paid off mortgage or even two and a few options with things they can do…not everyone’s struggling!

If you can and you’re a fan- sponsor the Nix!

Not the first time players have been sponsored, first time i canrecall fans being able to do it though. Given the amount i have invested in Phoenix gear they should give me one

A better idea (If you can afford it) than leaving money in your will to Save the Children, Green Peace or the Salvation Army as per those extremely distasteful TV adverts.

Guess this best fits in here.
Wellington Phoenix takes over Fraser Park sports hub | The Post
Nix branching out into other arenas, and now running a hub in Taita.

I hope the club upgrades the internet or whatever the problem is at Fraser Park - the constant video freezing, and audio lagging during last year's National League coverage made the streams consistently one of the worst. Would love to be able to properly watch and enjoy it this year!

Will we be getting a stadium out there now? Fraser Park that is. What do we reckon?
