You seriously have no idea about football.

Watch the replay again. Hogg done all Ifills work (sometimes even ran past him to get back after overlapping) Hogg sprinted back on many occasions to make last ditch tackles. Hogg won many headers. Only thing he may have done wrong is give Ibini and extra yard on the ball to whip in a cross. That can be easily fixed.

Brainless statement.

Hogg will be good, Fenton needs another year, however not sure about Boyd.

Team needs to sign ball playing midfielders and get fit.

Oh so passing the ball straight to the opposition is a good thing? Sorry 'bout that! Yeah he made some good tackles but going forward, which he's apparently good at, he was up to f all. I know he's a defender, but I can't see how that was any better than what Lochhead offers and I don't rate Lochhead.

haha what game did you watch last night? they never got forward because they defended majority of the game. How can you expect your full backs to get forward and create when you know the men in front of you either 1. wont pass you the ball when you overlap. 2. too lazy to track back when your wide player is slow and unfit. Garcia please watch the game again. Im sure you must have been on the wrong channel. Cant expect your players to attack from deep when teams constantly on the back foot for 90 mins. unbelievable.

Has Luke Rowe played himself out of contention? Thought he did alright in his one game..

I'm a huge fan of Rowe and I think he has been a victim of circumstance this year. Because of the way the "Academy" is set up (players are registered for Team Wellington) they were unable to bring him in (it's an international transfer, and TW need him).

I reckon he could have played for Central Coast last night and looked perfectly at home.

Unfortunately, Rowe's loss is Hogg's gain.

Suspect next year Lochhead might be gone and Hogg will start with Rowe behind him. The salaries of the two of them together would probably be less than Tony's.

All of which is pretty unfair for Tony who has been a tremendous servant to the Phoenix despite being this season's designated scapegoat.

Or maybe they don't see Rowe at a higher level in the short term. From the small bits I have seen of him he has been average, including when he was playing v Heart

if we wanted to be taken seriously across the tassy, we'd splash the cash on eddie bosnar

he has a point to prove to a few people there in terms of his ability and lack of socceroos selection and is a bit of a cult hero with his free kicks and all round character

sign a marquee alongside him to help attract better squad players

oh, and maybe our best market move could be to move the training base to somewhere less shit

I would agree with reg22 that Eddie Bosnar is not past his best yet. The question of "why he hasn't been picked for the Socceroos then" is neither here nor there - there were many decent players who never got picked due to particular plan of any particular coach. He plays in a very demanding competition (J-League) which I rate higher in terms of individual skills and fitness higher than HAL is at now. However, he is also getting paid there way above what WelNix would offer, so he'd only consider coming over once he started getting slower and older, and saw the writing on the wall. For that reason, I am not holding my breath.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

no Gracia i am not his dad. I am just a football follower in this country that likes the look of this kid. You say he useless etc but with no justification. I challenge you to watch the game again. give me his pass completion rate (will be one of the highest), headers won, tackle completion percentage, and really look and count how many times he ran back passed Iffil.

Now you say he was bad in Auckland too. WOW. For you to say that you must have personal thing for the lad in my opinion.

I thought Hoggy's passing was pretty atrocious to be fair (but then again it's hardly the strength of the Phoenix). I know you rate Hogg, and you have your reasons for it, but it wouldn't hurt you to step back a bit and look at him a bit more objectively.
I'm not a Hoggy basher and have thought that he deserved a shot at the A-league, and think he's looked no better and no worse than Lochy this season. But as Smithy has said, Hoggy has some off-field advantages over Lochy at the moment which could help him be signed on a longer term basis, and if that does happen hopefully he'll become a solid performer for the Nix.

Could also be a retirement, IIRC a similar statement was made by the club just before Tim Brown retired.

MEDIA RELEASE

For immediate release

PHOENIX SIGN YOUNG FULHAM STRIKER

Wellington Phoenix has signed young Fulham striker Corey Gameiro on loan till the end of the Hyundai A-League season.

Gameiro, 20, had an outstanding under-19 AFC championship for Australia, remarkably scoring all six of Australia’s goals at the tournament to help them qualify for the 2013 Fifa under-20 World Cup.

A hard-working speedy striker, Gameiro has recently been on loan with top Dutch club FC Eindhoven where he made eight appearances.

Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said he was delighted to secure Gameiro’s services till the end of the season as his arrival will add pace and depth to the squad.

The coach also said the youngster’s signing was another step in the further development of the club.

“It is important to establish relationships with clubs around the world and it is exciting that we are now forming one with an English Premier League side,” Herbert said.

“Having players coming this way is good for the future of the club.”

The Phoenix will be seeking an international clearance for Gameiro on Monday and he should be available for the trip to Brisbane Roar next week.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Bit strange - I'd say striker is the area where we need the least additions right now.

A 20 y.o striker. Probably the last thing we need. We just make signings for the sake of making signings. Hopefully he can make a difference.

If this is really what Ricki said

Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said he was delighted to secure Gameiro’s services till the end of the season as his arrival will add pace and depth to the squad.

The coach also said the youngster’s signing was another step in the further development of the club.

I would just love him to explain how signing a player till the end of the season is another step in the development of the club. Not sure how another striker is going to stop us leaking goals or help the midfield show that they are aware how to create something.

Looks like just another confused signing by the Phoenix my guess is we could see a few more of these in the coming months.

The next paragraph I think.

Permalink Permalink

If this kid can fetch the ball from half way and dribble through the opposition and then score then great!  But at the moment our general play and in particular our midfield play is so dire that he might find himself as isolated as Brockie and Stein have been.

Maybe this kid is good in the air...because that is probably the only area where someone could make a difference.

The real positives about this is it is an answer to those who have criticised Welnix for not trying to improve the side. We now have Cernak on board and he looks like he has something better than we had and then we get a striker on loan from Fulham (he must have some ability to be on the books of an EPL club)

It must be incredibly difficult to recruit someone to a club sitting at the arse end of the a-League

Things are at a low ebb when even signing a new player causes angst!

Yeah, a midfielder would have been more exciting but at least we're still trying things.

Could be promising addition but we never saw much of Ricardo when we had him. A couple of Ryan Nelsen clones would be more my cup of tea.
