But Tegal, all the whining comes from the belief that Ricki, and Gareth in particular (Welnix in general), are "to blame" (rather than "accountable", or "responsible") for our recent dire form. If you believe that, there is not such thing as extenuating circumstances (i.e. no decent midfielders actually want to come and work in Wellington right now). No, it must be Ricki (and Gareth)'s fault.

Yeah. That's where it comes from. No whining is justified. We're just haters and idiots. Silly us wanting a new coach after 6 years and a terrible season and a coach with no apparent plan B. The players just need to step up! Then everything will be great.

It's just that even something good like signing a young striker for the rest of the season turns to angst and sack ricki/the owners/nixie.

Hey I'm happy he signed. But Doloras makes it out that anyone who blames Ricki for anything is simply angsting for the sake of it.

I'm not one to defender Doloras but I suspect her point is more around 'its not all Ricki's fault' and that there are other contributing factors.

Oh ok. She hardly ever tells us what she thinks. Only what we supposedly think.

But more seriously - if we replace Ricki over the summer I won't shed any tears, unless it's a scion of the Auckland Old Boys Network. But I am neutral on whether the issue is the coach or not. From Iffy's twitter, it seems that it's Welnix that have "lost the changing room", not Ricki. But we can't SACK WELNIX unless there's someone else better lined up. SAME WITH RICKI.

Thats an interesting point about the players rallying against the owners. Would be much the same as Blackburn I guess.

Again, I would have no issue if Welnix's board (including people like Hickey and others who actually know football) were quietly looking at the "Coaches Available" listings on International Football TradeMe or however they do it. But again, not convinced that Ricki is the problem, rather than simply a plum target.

yeah, I don't see how he can not be. I haven't seen anything lately that indicates he is a good coach for this level. Good motivator, sure (although not now obviously).

What do you like about his coaching? (not rhetorical).

Don't give a rats arse if the players don't like owners. The owners don't defend like shit, pass like shit and generally give up in the second half. Time for a whole bunch of people to look in the mirror. Everyone is looking for someone to point the finger at.

As for Ricki being a plum target. It standard practice in pro sport for the buck to stop with the coach if things are bad. Ricki has been "Mr Phoenix" for the last six years. He has had  total control of the footballing side of the club. If the team is not functioning then its his responsibility. He was told he could spend the salary cap. He chose to retain Smith and Sanchez as imports. Totori, Huysegems. Downey etc were all his picks. He always said that the Nix won't do marquee signings...well before Welnix came on the scene. He chose to play five attackers and only one DM against the league leaders. He chose to play a high defensive line against the Victory. He was happy to slide off and do the Olympic junket when all the other A_League coaches were fine tuning their recruitment and preseason work.

How anyone can say that Ricki is not the problem is beyond me. There might be some other mitigating factors but the reality is he runs the show and its gone belly up. He has to take the majority of the blame.

He's a nice guy though. And yep he is definitely still around, saw him only yesterday!

We have 23 on the books atm. So would need to get someone to accept a payout to free up a spot.

Using the 'injury replacement' for Pantelis is unlikely because that would require 'exceptional circumstances', since Culina is currently contracted to another A-League club. Unsure if Culina would qualify for a guest stint.

And as well as Hogg, adding Cernak and Gameiro leaves us at 22 - but I just checked the squad and if you do include Pantelis it is 23. Pantelis isn't even in Wgtn at the moment and currently coaching at Adelaide Utd: http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/adelaideunited/news-display/Fun-assured-at-new-Reds-Soccer-School/58790

True...but if the team does it once its the players fault. If they do it all season its the coaches fault for not fixing it....thats his job, thats what he gets paid for, to make them defend properly, pass properly and be properly motivated!

It would be a nightmare form hell. Fergie signs as coach and brings Burns and then the Nix picks up Culina......it would be enough to drive a person into the knitting circle.
Wouldn't Culina be a mass violation of the "no Cock" policy?  He's about the biggest, red-ist angriest cock on the block!

Could sign his old man as coach or as an assiant to Fergie. Dream team....not and bring Kruse in as Aust Marqee.

We haven't announced that he has had his contract cancelled. Can't see him getting a pay out, insurance should be paying his wages, so isn't in either parties interest to let him go.

If your team at work are generally ok, and then start performing like shit, do you think it might start to become a management issue?
It's not the cock-ups and attitude problems per se, it's how they are dealt with.
I think the players individually are better than they play as a team I guess.

Couldn't Culina do a job for the rest of this season? Pretty low risk on a short term contract and he is capable of passing to his team mates, unlike many of our current squad.

Oh I'm not saying that Ricki isn't to blame, I'm pointing out that the (invalid) argument that the only reason this is not Welnix's fault because they don't kick the ball on the field can also be applied to Ricki, which points out the flaw in it.

Culina is decent quality for the A-League, bit of a cock though. Would I take him? In our current situation, in a heartbeat.

but aren't most people saying the problem is a little bit of everything? There's a grain of truth in 95% of the comments on here. I don't see why people get so exasperated with the forum. I would rather know what others think about the team, angsty or positive, I don't care -  but instead most comments are directed at trying to steer other people's comments one way or the other. Foucault would have a field day.
