Yeah wide in a front 3 is best I think.

I can see him hanging wide if he starts, but if he comes off the bench id imagine he'd come on more central and look to run at tired defenders. I really hope he can adapt to the league and kick on this season!!!

Fark Im excited for this season!!!

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

I still think he'll have a good go at this level, the best of Totori is yet to come.

You'd hope so, he hasn't played an A-League match yet!

I worry about sticking striker type guys wide in 4-4-2.  You need to be quite aware about defensive duties plus feed your strikers.  I'm not sure he's up to it

He seemed to track back ok against WSW in the chch game. Think he seemed a bit restrained in that game by the defensive duties too, for me the best spot for him would be in the middle, off someone else given free reign

As much as we all love the A-League - it is still exactly that, the A-League. There will be alot of players who will struggle to deal with him, not every side has a Dura or Siggy equivelent

Id say the latter. wide in the 433.

Defense isnt his strongest attribute. And he is good 1on1. Also not clinical enough to be a starting centre forward at this level

Funny that sounds just like Bertos, however if he has half at least half a brain he should be far more valuable

Neat little story and good to see Sanchez and new kid being good sports about it.

In all seriousness, even though he's an injury replacement, I hope the club are doing all they can to look after this young lad in a totally foreign environment.

On number 3.   We know Manny had other offers, and compelling reasons to go (family etc..) and we know that he has a preference for the midfield over right back.  If he came to the club when we were looking to resign, and said he's had these offers, and these clubs are looking at him as a CM, I want to play there or I am going, I certainly would have resigned him under those conditions.  No idea if this is what happened, but I could understand both the club's and Manny's position if something like this happened.

[quote=playwithFire]

I think thats pretty much what happened - but it has set a very interesting precedent.

Ifill has requested to play as a winger this season with Brockie and Huysegems set to get first crack at developing a strike partnership.

"I do enjoy playing up front but I think I'm more effective wide," Ifill said.

An effect of prior actions?

Ifill out wide is good for me if he can produce, but I still think all our players are still suited to a 433 cause our "wingers" arent exactly the best defenders

I'm loving how multinational the Nix are becoming: Kiwis, Aussies, British, Panamanians, Barbadians, Solomon Islanders, Americans, Spanish, Maltese, Belgian, German

Now we just need to get our own Italian, and we'll be ready to win the league!
There's lots of talent in the Serie B... look at Verratti - he earned promotion to Serie A with Pescara and now he's playin for PSG.

I get the feeling that we will be offering Richardo Clarke a full time contract at the end of his loan. I know we have no Import spots left but we can have another injury by then!

Was impressed with him yesterday. Room for improvement but does have skill and pace.

You'd hope that any attempt by the FFA to strictly enforce the import rules could be met with the words "west sydney wanderers" and that'd be that. If they're going to be spoon fed import slots the least we deserve is a generous interpretation of the injury replacement rules.

How long has Ifill been here? Maybe we could chuck him citizenship and open up a import slot.

Pretty sure if ya chuck Ifill onto marquee status in name then we can exclude him from our foreign quota. Read that on 442 somewhere so can't speak to its truthiness but apparently that is what west sydney unicorns have done. Who are these wanderers of which you speak anyway?

Truthiness is not proven with facts and figures, truthiness can only be proven with more truthiness!

Needs 5 years as a Permanent Resident before he can apply.

I'm pretty sure that the 5 year rule is a FIFA thing as well, otherwise a very wealthy government could just change it's citizenship laws to include anyone that can play football, and then buy players before they had played for their country of birth.

It is 5 years to play for a country. Ifill is already capped, so it would just be to get classed as a domestic player. Daniel got his after 3 years?

2 if I remember correctly. Would be much more difficult to fast-track Ifill, since he's already capped at international level and therefore can't represent NZ. Making the 'benefit to NZ' argument for citizenship fast-track in that context is on much shakier ground.

Were any of Ifills children born here and is that a possible card to play to speed up the process?

No, you can speed up the process only if it is believed that the fast-track would prove of benefit to New Zealand. Having children born here doesn't really fit into that, in fact I think it's considered even less important now than it was maybe 10 years ago (mainly to discourage people from coming here to give birth to their kids and then claiming rights on the basis of that).

Basically the minister can do what ever they like. National ministers are however historically poor when it comes to immigration or citizenship, reference mike

Isn't there a special dispensation for the Phoenix where kiwis and aussies are classed as local players.  No other team has this clause available to them.  is it a good idea for us to rock the boat about imports.  I think not.

Permalink Permalink

Yep I was thinking that, in Australia they have 9 teams and can recruit from 20ish million people, here we have 1 team and can recruit from 25ish million people so I'd say it gives us a bit of an advantage.

Permalink Permalink

In the future I think it'd be fine if aussies counted as foreigners for us, but I think it would be silly for the FFA to cut out another pathway for aussie footballers to play pro

Permalink Permalink

Or just let Kiwis not count as foreigners for any a-league team. I don't think it would change much, just lets teams like the tards have one extra foreigner.
