That's why Greenacre, Moss, Stubbins, seem the more likely candidates.

I have a feeling Stubbins is going to get it.

I'd prefer Moss over Stubby.

Would be happy with Stubbins.

we should sign A julio cesar.

Sign them all up then play something like this:

                                 Julio César
Julio César    Julio César    Julio César    Julio César
Julio César    Julio César    Julio César    Julio César
                      Julio César    Julio César

Decided to go with Julio César in goal but Julio César was probably unlucky not to get the nod.

Also thought I'd go for a 442 to accomodate Julio César  up front who seems to work better with Julio César sitting just off him and Julio César sending crosses into the box. But you could also go for a 433 and bring in Julio César at the expense of Julio César?

Julio Cesar has never been captain material. Too hot headed. I would have to go for Julio Cesar who is far more level headed. A true leader of men!

also think julio cesar hasnt been given a fair shot over the few years he has been here. He was touted as the future of the club but really havent seen enough of him to know. Who's to say he wouldnt be filling that hole in the national team if he had been given more opportunities

You forgot to put Chris Killen in at DM.

Looking at our off contract players.
GONE: Lucas Pantelis, Mark Paston
SHOULD BE GONE: Dani Sanchez, Alex Smith,  Jimmy Downey
WILL PROBABLY GO: Isaka Cernak, Corey Gameiro
WILL PROBABLY STAY: Tony Lochhead, Leo Bertos, Ian Hogg

7 players gone, 1 Import (Carlos) in.
Leaving us with 6 spots to fill, 5 of which must be Kiwis/Aussies.

Of those 5/6 spots, I would be interested in names of Kiwis that are going to improve the team. I ask the question because in my mind, I am not sure there are any (or any that want to come back to the Phoenix)

I think they are going to be largely Australians...

I don't think there are any Kiwis in New Zealand that could improve the team. I'd say we'd probably sign a Kiwi No.2 GK but other than that we are gonna be bringing over a few Aussies.

These are the only possibilities I can think of.

Michael O'Keefe or Scott Basalaj - take your pick. Jacob Spoonley would be a huge outsider but wouldn't mind if he was given the nod.

Chris Killen - comes at a cost that probably outweighs his talent.

Marco Rojas - 0% chance of signing, but is off-contract.

Tim Payne/Cam Howieson - could somehow get released and come here?

Storm Roux - won't add quality, just depth.

The other issue around signing Kiwis is if we get a foreign coach is his priority going to be growing NZ footballers or getting the best players he can to create the best team he can. I'd say the latter.

if it is the latter then for me that has to be a good thing, first we want the nix to be a winning club - once we have this we can then look at developing NZ talent. We already have a big chunk of the starting AW's in the team do we need to add the under 20's as well?

Queenslander 3x a year.

That should always be the case. If a kiwi gets developed it should be considered a bonus. We are not a "development squad " for the all whites

Will both be playing first team football next year. I heard Nix did enquire about bringing in Payne before they got Gamiero.

Matthew Ridenton might be good for a youth spot

I'm not saying we should be. I think in previous years with Ricki at the helm it sometimes was a case of if I don't sign this kiwi then he's not gonna have a club which isn't good for the All Whites. Massive conflict of interest.

Names?

A fan is a fan.

I'd say for a lot of Kiwis Ricki signed it played some role especially in the earlier seasons. And maybe Boxall this season, if Ricki wasn't in charge would we of signed him, most probably not.

Less Kiwis more Aussies for me but as I have queried previously is the desire to create a winning Nix team going to be tempered by the desire to grow kiwi talent locally rather than overseas.  To me they are mutually exclusive at A league level (raher than youith team) until Kiwi players have a proven pedigree and we attract them back.

We need hardened proven pros in numbers 1-15 and then mainly potential in the balance 6 or 7 places.

We might not get there till 2014/15...

Well looks like we have 14 players signed for next year - plus I'd expect 2 of Lochhead, Hogg or Rowe to be picked up.

I guess the new coach has to identify what sort of structure he wants to play, and then pick up players that fit the style. I personally think we have looked best when playing with two up front, and a sort of narrower diamond in midfield. Its odd, but the nix dont have as many wide players as we once had - so Id go for a diamond.

Then you gotta look at what spots need filled and they probably are DM, GK, RB & a wide midfielder

DM is probably where you want to bring in a import player that the coach admires as this position affects how a team moves the ball.

At GK id go for O'Keefe but Scott could also be a fine pickup.

At RB I would approach Roux and Elrich as both will not be seeing many minutes next season.

The other spot could be for Leo or Cernak. I would prefer to keep Cernak as a potential backup for when Carlos gets hurt.

That would then bring up 20 players which is the minimum - the coach could then bring in a few other guys to play he wants - maybe a Jurman or Celeski. Personally think we only need to sign only one more midfielder unless coach wants to play a front 3.

We probably will need a new mid to replace Leo if he doesn't get re-signed. Id be happy with Boyd as backup for the strikers - Ifill also if needed.

I may not agree with all the names he has suggested but he has certainly offered more than 'we need a clearout' and actually outlined his thinking if he was the gaffer. It's inherently better than most of the stuff posted and its certainly well reasoned. The fact that there is even names and positions is better than most posts.
