How many ACFC players are profesional would you say?

None. That's what I'd say.

lol.  Come off it... We all know of one in particular who's a bit of a legend in a white shirt.

Ivan has his own Auckland sportsware business. And he banked 0000's of euros playing professionally in Holland.

I'll take my chance because luck is on my side or something...

Her name is Rio, she don't need to understand...

right so you think that this Sportswear business is going gangbusters and Ivan does it for the sandwiches and a couple of drachmas? I had heard 70k... Who needs to play for the Phoenix when you are getting that.

Grumpy old bastard alert

If Ivan was 15 years younger he'd be a cert for the Nix.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Would think he would be over playing in Europe again.

Hope Ridenton story is true. Rufer and Ridenton are the two best U17 players in the country and its the perfect age to be being blood in the A League.

Ditto, Ridenton was a stand out at Rotorua v Nix

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Would love us to sign the kid but guessing he might hold off until after the u17 World Cup, he might get more offers.

Ridenton rumour is 100% true, he's all signed up, family source.

From that article:

" His father, Michael, played 14 times for New Zealand, but said earlier this year: ''He's a far better player than I ever was, so I don't think there's too much pressure on his shoulders.'' "

Well you just put pressure on him by saying he's far better than you lol

What position is Ridenton?

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

I believe he's a midfielder but not 100% on that.

Really hope it gets confirmed. Always a worry about the lack of game time for the kids we sign but it would be great to see them have a couple years with the Nix before heading offshore.

Yeah Central Midfield I believe.

I probably would have seen that if I read the article! Anyone know what flavour of midfielder he is? (Attacking, defensive, box-to-box, Tim Brown, etc)

Not 100% but I think Box-to-Box, just a regular CM.

He's primarily played as a winger so far, but has the capabilities and physical attribtues to play in a more central attacking role when required.

Good to see us signing up some Kiwi attacking talent, hope it is goal scoring too!

In Rotorua he seemed to be attacking midfielder, had a great eye for passes forward, looked comfortable on the ball and had time at his disposal

Didn't see the game but did read that he nutmegmed Siggy and a couple others during the game, which suggests some technical ability.

Also, wasn't he the kid at the Nike Challenge who got selected by the barca scouts there as being the best player on show. I think him, rufer and one more all made the two tournament teams.

A transfer related question, just to change things up a bit in this thread...

...is the transfer market actually still open? if so, when does it close?

Yes. Liam Jordan (Keryn's son) the third player I think. Here's an old ACFC Ridenton link - can't find the one that relates specifically to the Nike Challenge matches in Oz and the barca scouts' reaction, but yes, there was an in-depth article on the ACFC site about that.

It's actually a very clever question and not easily answered by me at least. You've got so many levels. Ultimately FFA and you can wiki that and their dates, but when you look at other federations, free-agents, injury-signings, amateur etc its not easy.

Nix are an A-League team so that's your starting point.

edit: apart from signing a contracted player from another club i reckon it's closed but then I need to go to bed.

Closes on 31st October. Re-opens on the 14th Jan.

Still would like to hear something from the Nix regarding his signing. Why are we waiting to announce it after the WC if its a done deal.

I read that 442 article, I thought he had signed for TW rather than coming for a Nix trial.

I don't think he has actually signed yet.

Fuck this stupid game

Do we actually have any free squad spots? Are we looking to sign anyone else?

21 players on contract, so 2 spots are available. Hicks is playing for a full time deal.

Are we looking at anyone else to cover Manny/Lia/Riera? Surely there will be some suspensions and injuries in that part of the field at some point this season?

I've obviously missed something, but Matt Thompson trialled for us, so why the heck didn't we sign him?

The sort of player that would be awesome with the Nix. We missed a golden opportunity

1. Money

2. He's not really a DM

3. Known quantity; looking pretty average for Sydney right now.

Don't feel like we've missed out on anything; but at the same time didn't think it would've been a bad signing.

Hasn't stood out for Sydney. Off at half-time!
