How about Kruse and Ljubo Milicevic on a two for one deal? Could counsel each other and swap DVDs.

His contract is up, we might sell him the Kiwi life style at a cut price in wages??

If every other club in the A-league has young players ripping up, why cant we, who cares if they are aussie, success for the phoenix should be first priority. Excuse my spelling please

Sell the life style though, by his standards it'll cost him a lot less for high quality. More realistically, why not sign some Aussie youth players??

I have no problem with that, I just think that a player that the leagues leading youth development club is chucking in a season where he played under 100 minutes isn't good enough for us.

I'd much rather kiwi locals but if we find a good Australian youngster that is missed by the Aus sides (missed, not ignored) then damn right we should sign them.

I can understand why not though.  He's hardly shone in the NZFC since he came back, he flopped terribly in SYdney.  So far his form is some good football for the Olympic side (a couple of games) and excellent Central league which is a LOOOOONG way below the A-League.

I hope he does well in Townsville, but I can understand why the Phoenix didn't sign him particularly when we have a side chock full of wide players already.

If you are talking domestic players, I wouldn't mind them having a sniff at Cole Peverly. While is foul prone, i think he has shown real improvement to maybe worth a sniff. He has some lovely ball skills and I think looking at the Ben Sigmund example and a couple of his interviews, it'll take 3 months of graft to get up to pace.. He is also young and a better prospect than Draper although not a striker. I'd probably also look at Alan Pearce but I believe they took a look at him last year....?

With the way other teams are though, would Dodd start at another club ranked higher than the nix?

I would think in terms of game time, the nix would be his best bet.

IMO I think Peverly is very underrated and have said that on this forum for while.

I doubt dodd would be in the starting 11 for any other club with the exception of the two new clubs depending on who they finalise as there signings

Fair point. Would start at North Queensland, Sydney and Newcastle I think.

Ricki's thoughts on squad size and some discussion on prospects for Johnson,  Draper and others not yet re-signed.

Yeh, interesting. Cut the squad size? well, it seems small enough already to me! but if it helps a player fit under the salary cap... I guess it's a possibility

Seems a good idea to me, we do seem to have a few hangers on.. Drapes, Johnson (although he's set to leave anyway). I hope they get this youth team up and running. Would do wonders for both Nix and NZF future. I read somewhere that the Nix have a youth team in NZFC? WTF? could this be team wellington or am I misunderstanding what I saw?

Not sure about reading, but one of the commentators said it on Friday night. It's bollocks.

Maybe that's where I picked it up from, they do seem to say a lot of stuff that I see here on YF forums, maybe they come on here and pinch things to say on game day.

Following Gao's departure we have had a squad of 21, factor in the fact that Draper has had no game or bench time and we have managed with 20 quite easily.

Fewer players potentially means we have more money to spend on better players.

And if that player gets injured we have some slots to compensate.

Yeah, that Nix Youth Team playing in a local league comment did come from a TV commentator.

Don't know where he got it. It's not possible as all our guys are registered in Aussie and couldn't jump between the Nix top side and a local side if they wanted to.
I suspect a youth team will happen next season with the FFA saying "Okay", but leaving "Mr Deep-Pockets" , Terry S, to pick up most of the costs with maybe some sponsorship deals to offset the cash outlay.

Horrible to think about where football in NZ would be today without Terry.

[edit - Terry S - duh!)

And Johnson.

So we've done ok this season with a basic squad of 18. Though we haven't really been hit by injuries/suspensions either.

We also haven't had a youth team to call up on which every other team has.

i would have thought that lia plus various other players along with numerous red cards and players who have been suspended for receiving 5 cards for the season would classify as been hit with injuries and suspensions.....maybe i have been watching some other team all season
