Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Wow that Cole kid sounds fantastic. Is he a Kiwi? How old is he?

He'd be 22 or 23.  He's an Aussie, went to US College and came back via a season here with Waitakere (the same year they had the Cardozo brothers).

He was impressive with Waitak when I watched him.

Ha, and look at the first post name (non-stickied).

interesting, I think our informal style and Tony's willingness to post works well

I wonder if Tony will now be be racing off to beat George to capture Shannon Cole's signature

ha, maybe that's the Ballane rumour - not Andy Cole, but Shannon (cmon big fella, you might need to get your hearing tested )

That is what I was alluding to. A-league teams, I understand, are not allowed to pay transfer fees to one another. So the only way I can see this happening is Dodd being released from his contract somehow, unless unbeknown to us his contract actually expires this year.

I heard from a board member at South Melbourne (although they do hate the A-league), that a player can only be signed from a VPL club for no more $3,000. He also said O'dor signed to the Phoneix for this amount. He seemed to think this was the same for any player currntly playing in Australia (or the A-league i guess). It didn't seem right to me, just passing on what he said. I hope Dodd doesn't go, he's got a great attitude and works hard.

Bullion that is correct. The $3,000 is a training & compensation fee set by FFA. All VPL clubs think it is cheap as most players have been with the club since junior years. In regards to the A League there is no transfer fee between clubs. Transfer fees are paid only if a player is sold to an overseas club.

Don't worry Karl will be with the Phoenix as he has one more year left on his contract.

so surely one of these UK based sginings is Porter -and the other is an attacking midfielder. Cant be a kiwi as nothing fits the bill. So who? (unless its a right back like Mulligan). Feverish2008-03-04 21:56:48

They might be waiting to see how the Yellow Fever Scholarship winner does at training, although Daniel Finlay is an attacking midfielder
Maybe one of the under 20 spots then

Tony cheers for keeping us updated on here yourself. Your work is really appreciated by the fans here and comments like the one regarding Karl are really pleasing for us to read.

Also, keep up the good work with the signings, I hate to be cocky but so far we are probably getting no#1 as far as value for money with our signings compared to the other A-League clubs (Sydney's might look impressive, but will they be worth all that cash?). They have all been top notch so far and I am sure the Phoenix will be in serious contention for the playoffs this year.

This may have been suggested before, but with Juninho's contract expiring at Sydney and CCM not interested with him replacing the wrong Aloisi; could Juninho fill the marquee and AM role?

I still think that if the new striker and possible right back are within the salary cap, Juninho would be an ideal signing for our marquee and AM.

Great news Tonp P.  In my view, he was one of the best and most consistent performers last season.  At his age and with the support of one or two more experienced defenders, he will only get better.

No. 1mill + isn't worth it for a player that will play half the season at best.

Juninho is a living legend in my books. Would be pleased to have him as our marquee any day, assuming he has the legs for another season!

Surely Ross A must be released. Given that his contract is finishing, he's not getting any younger, there is more than enough cover in his position, and he would free up a massive chunk of the salary cap for these new signings...

Yeah, it will have to be at the right price. I do think that he won't be as injured as last season, the injuries he picked up are not ones you associate with long-term injury problems - a fall and getting ligament damage in the shoulder and a chipped bone from the galaxy game. If he was having problems with knees, ankles and muscles especially hamstrings then I would be worried about his injury problems

I wonder why Elrichs rejected the Jets offer...?
I thought he'd grab that with both hands. Maybe he has another card up his sleeve?

I hope he stays in the A League so we can embarass him at the ring of fire.

Bede, see we won McEvedy? Meeeeean. St Pats Day will be off the hook.  Use the McEvedy topic in off topic thread

Not enough pie shops in Newcastle, that's why Jardel left them.

Well maybe I am a bit harsh on Joel Porter. Certainly he has a collection of different goals and in close quarters. But at that level the defenders are not as tight as A-league and his injuries are my main certain. Finisher he is but is he a good setter as well? Maybe a worth well sign.

I wonder if Mully be the other signing? He can be right back and be used around the Midfield as well. Him and Sig would be integrated in a team with Old and to increase team cohension for the All Whites WC road to South Africa. We need time to tight the AW defence if we face the 5th placed Asian side just in case Ryan Nelson gets injuried etc. He's should be good enough for A-League level.

Wellington Phoenix has signed Filipe Gui Paradela Maciel da Costa who is known as Filipe da Costa from Leeds United.
Its a two year deal for the 23 year old midfielder who prefers the left wing so Daniel will push into the middle of the pitch for Phoenix this season.
The Phoenix are going to announce 3 more signings tomorrow in the form of David Mulligan, Joel Porter And Shannan Cole From Port Vale, Hartlepool And Sydney United Respectively.

I'm ecstatic just at the4 prospect of a Leeds player signing for the Nix. da Costa is gun on FM too but not sure about in real life.

Hasn't been at LUFC long at all, in fact there was a problem with his work permit meaning he was with the club but couldn't play for most of this season. Only made 5 appearances and is possibly struggling to get used to the English game which makes me wonder his suitability to the pretty rough game being played here.

Seen a fair bit of Shannon Cole at Olympic and i think his quite a classy player, his clever with the ball and knows what to do when there is an opening and also solid one on one player IMO..
