I emailed the Hartlepool United reporter on the Hartlepool Mail newspaper and asked for his comment on possible signing of Joel Porter. Here is what he had to say:

I think your CEO might not be far off. The comments that I've read from him seem to be a fairly accurate assessment of the situation. Joel, meanwhile, is keeping quiet on the issue. He's in fantastic form at the moment though so I guess Hartlepool will be keen to keep him if there is an option. The only problem with Joel is that he has been injury prone for the last two years. He seems to have put that behind him in the last three months though and is playing the best football he's played in probably three years.
the profile on joel porter. sounds injury prone to me.

Pignata and Herbert were at the Victorian Premier League match between Richmond and Altona tonight.

Seems to have an eye on a few of the Richmond lads going from some of the talk going on.

Hard to imagine there are too many top players in the VPL who have been missed by the other A-League clubs. Seems to me you might pick up a Rees type of player, solid but no more than a squad player. There was an earlier rumour that they were scouting a right back from the VPL. Who was playing there in the Richmond game?

Maybe they have got the nod from the Oz football assoc that the Phoenix youth team is  on and they are scouting some Oz under 21 players......who knows?

Yeah he was playing last night, didn't have one of his better matches though.

Richmond have some decent talent coming through so you never know.

I thought Semir Sivic was playing right back last night?

He had a relatively decent game as well.

Apparently we were after Perth's David Tarka - source;

PERTH'S quiet off-season has been given a boost with the re-signing of defender David Tarka on a new one-year deal.

The winner of the Glory's club champion award in 2006-2007, Tarka missed all of last year following a serious hamstring injury in his first game, the latest in a series of fitness setbacks.

But after reportedly turning down a big offer from A-League rivals Wellington, Tarka will stay in Perth to attempt to re-establish a career which had already brought one stint in Europe and Australia recognition.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I hear rumours he's being watched by a few A-League clubs.

Cole Shines But Sharks Draw

Get more on: cole | olympic | sharks | nswpl
EXCLUSIVE: Despite a standout performance from A-League target Shannon Cole, Sydney Olympic had to settle for a 1-1 draw with ladder leaders Sutherland at Belmore. In the NSW Premier League game of the round, Olympic took the lead on 60 minutes after a brilliant Cole free kick caused havoc in the Sharks defence allowing Chris Triantis to stab the ball home.

However Sutherland showed why they went into this game with a 100% record when on 80 minutes Jim Bakis whipped in a dangerous free kick and Brad Boardman nipped in ahead of the Olympic defence to glance his header home for 1-1.

A draw was perhaps the right result in what was ultimately an even encounter. It was however intense, high quality football from two sides who loom as finals favourites this season.

Olympic skipper Peter Zorbas was not a happy man after the game saying his side should've won. Asked if he was happy with a point he replied, No, not at all. I think at home we always expect to win and going up 1-0 we thought we'd win and then we copped a goal. It was two points dropped.

That's what happens. They [the Sharks] are a good team and they'll punish you with their quality.

Opposing coach Brian Brown was happy to keep his side's unbeaten run to four games. Obviously that's a positive but I wasn't totally satisfied. A few of our guys were a bit down on form tonight and it was disappointing that we allowed Shannon Cole the opportunity from a set piece that they scored from.

Having said that, we tried to play our passing game and our fitness really showed in the last 10 minutes.

For the Sharks, defensive duo Pedrag Bojic and George Souris excelled while for Olympic, Peter Zorbas impressed with another all-action performance, as did the exciting Shannon Cole and the returning to full fitness Anthony Hartshorn.

It's believed at least two A-League coaches were at this game although John Kosmina wasn't one of them. He's flown home to Adelaide.

In other news, Olympic will appeal the five week sentence given to striker Matt Mayora after he was red-carded in round three at Marconi.

And the club continues to wait for the international transfer clearance of Jordanian international Siraj Al-Tall. It's understood the striker may be eligible to play the week after the upcoming Easter break.

He is currently working for and training with Melbourne Victory.
Basically an apprenticeship.

Leigh Broxham came through the same way.

Interestingly, Gao is out of contract with MyPa and is without a club.

Would you try and sign him?

Similar position to Daniel and Bertos but slightly more unorthodox, Leo into attacking mid and Leilei Gao on the right? What a line-up...

If that is the case, he must be signed IMO. It doesnt matter we already have players in that position,  he showed he was a great asset. Might be wrong, but thought I read somewhere that he can also play as a striker.

When did he come off conctract?

Better with two strikers both wide players can take on defenders  and put good crosses in that'll make more space for smeltz an costa , and then you got daniel/lia coming through the middle of the park got to sign that boy

You are so right tigers. Leilei Gao is mean as!!! He can do what we thought Elrich could do, take defenders apart.

Couldn't we of picked him when the club started up? Or was he already at MyPa?

Would he want to come back after the Knights?
