that is ridiculous.

if you can recall when greenie was out, we played the most diabolical football i have ever seen. eg palmy.

Ifill says without him the players find it hard to find space and so on.

this is because of greenie's work rate and the runs he makes to drag defenders out of position.

without him we don't have a lot, and a few of people don't see that.

Yes, and the 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 pastings of CCM, Fury and Roar. I like him, but he is not absolutely essential to our game.

sure, but we can say that about Manny, Bertos.........

And your point??

You're saying Greenacre is really important to how we play and we struggle badly without him, I was disagreeing. Muscat and Bertos have nothing to do with it.

my point is Manny & Bertos are not "absolutely essential to our game" just like you claim Greenacre isn't.

if Greenie doesn't cut it for that reason, lets get rid of/not play these two as well ?

No way, we are still a lot better with Greenacre on the park but it's not the end of the world if he is out. Don't really get what you are on about.

Greenacre is the best we have got in the position so we need him 2 play... But it wouldn t be the end of the world if someone better came in or if someone better was taught to play in the same position

or if we had someone who offered something a bit different like Costa did last year to give him a bit of competition or service and us a few options with our formation and style of play...

This. We actually had possibly the purplest patch of the season while Greenacre was out injured.

Bear in mind though that The Furries finished 7th, The Sea Dogs 8th, and The Mew 9th

True, but we had failed to put away all those teams in the prior encounters over the season. And that was the first time we beat the Roar.

He is leaving Newcastle at the end of the season. I'm assuming he is trying to say we should sign him, but who knows.

Exactly - our only wins against both Brisbane and Furries came in the two games that Greenacre didn't play in.

35, out of contract, quality player with good CV (man.u, nufc, England)

Butt - thanks butt no thanks.

Actually he may be quite good at this level. He was benched for most of the season - failed to make the starting XI of a team of journeymen and developing youngsters.

Nelsen's name would bring people to games. Butt wouldn't.

Bring back Cleberson, George, Plodder, Mulligan, Ferrante, Brownlie, Imray, Draper, Spoonley, Dodd, Elrich, Higgins, Chen, Rees, and Coveny.

Only then can we win the title.

Seems like he's had a few injuries this season.  When he has started (10 games) he hasn't been very effective and in the later stages only started when there were other injuries that forced Hughton to go for Butt.

He's the 2009/10 club captain but he didn't even start for the final game @ SJP.

He might be good for the A-League, but a 36 yo midfielder seemingly injury prone...?

(Actually if he did end up here I could wear my toon shirt to the games as a mark of respect.  It's stripey and there's no red)

As for Nelson - he's  a defender.  So he's allowed to be old.  Just like Judas @rseSol Campbell.

I apologise if this has already been discussed but I only caught 5 mins of the NZFC Final and was wondering whether or not Aaron Clapham is A-League/Phoenix quality?

Been discussed a few times.

My personal opinion is that he's not there yet but has the potential to get there.

I actually thought Clapham was class, controlled the midfeild well, had great awareness, he looked a level above the rest of the other Canterbury players.  But in saying that he wasn't the best on the park and he's been training with the Phoenix a lot so he has been noticed, I believe he could be A-league quality but I don't think the Phoenix need him. If New Zealanders weren't counted as imports I wouldn't be surprised if he got picked him by the Fury, Heart or Rovers as a squad player.

He tends to drift wide though doesn't he.  That's what I noticed the two times I've seen him.

I don't know if it was a one off, but he hits a great free kick if the one against Auckland in the Round Robin is anything to go by.

Nicky Butt is rubbish.

Without reading this entire thread, are there any realistic rumours for next season in terms of signings?

Nothing has been anounced or rumoured yet, can't imagine it will untill after the world cup. At this stage it's just wish lists or discussing an Australian Marquee

No - how this thread got to 440 pages I don't know.  There hasn't been a single rumour broken on this thread at all unless Hard News tells us 5 minutes before an official announcement is made

Normo's coming home

It's more a transfer wish list thread than speculation.

The start of the thread is quite well sourced. Talking of how Siggy and Dura are close to signing and stuff.

Fair point, he did that in the final (thats all I've seen from him) but I was still impressed, and maybe he was trying to do that because Canterbury just weren't offering anything on attack so he tried to go around the defender and do more himself? He just looked comfortable on the ball.
