...and if the player in question doesn't ?

Name some players that you think would safely do this that are realistic targets.

Finding a marquee worthy of marquee status and would realistically play at this level is a tougher act than it sounds

An older star like Fowler would do.

Paul Scholes.

Scholes would be a great great signing. Even though I don't like him.

But I think any marquee will have to be quite past their prime. robbie Fowler had fallen down the lower leagues of England before he came down under so we really would have to be looking at someone in the same sort of situation.

Yeah and that Pato guy as well.
Also maybe Viera and Benzema seeing as they arent good enough for the world cup too? Was thinking something like:

              Paston
Muscat Sigmund Durante Lochhead
          Brown        Viera
              Ronaldinho
Pato       Benzema        Ifill

He plays for Manchester UNited, thats why we don't like him, just like anyone who plays for Chelsea, Real Madrid, West Ham, Newcastle United, The Tards, Sydney, etc etc

I've bought this up in previous seasons but target people in the MLS. They have public salaries and realistically we can go after a player we have a realistic chance of getting! They've got some hugely talented players in that league.. even though Deigo came from there

Latest article on stuff - Pignata says they are looking for 3 more players - "with a central midfielder the priority"
Permalink Permalink
almost 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Hope these next three are high quality players rather than "squadies" like Mcalister. with a 30 game season and midweek games it will be the sides with the strongest squads that come out on top. This next spell of recruiting will be vital. We can't afford to have duds like Chen and Kwasnik. They just put too much pressure on the rest of the guys. I'm not too sure how much $$$ is left in the kitty but I sure hope we get at least two quality players. A top level midfield playmaker won't come cheap

My bet is a Central midfielder 'big $$$" and filling the youth spots.

yeah, we only need 3 more players for a minimum squad size. We need 2 more youth, most likely minimum wage, blow the rest of the cap on a awesome player (maybe leave space for 1 more on minimum wage)

We need another striker.  Mac is not a starter quality player

I disagree with that,  I think Mac is the type of player we need,  look how well Dadi did and he wasnt quick and work rate wasnt great,  Big Mac is alot younger than Dadi I think Big Mac will be a great provider for Greenacre and will no doubt knock a few in too.

He was always doing Ok though, even before he came here. He scored a few goals for Perth, remembering the only reason he left was because Perth didnt want to play him because he was getting too old.

is deigo a foriegn player or do we still have one foriegn spot left?
Permalink Permalink
almost 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Well we have at least one spot with Dadi gone. I think Diego does count so that means its just Ifill, Greenacre and Diego as our foreigners. With one more spot open, it surely must be a creative midfielder. Marquee worthy perhaps?

Wonder if there are any decent Barbados playmakers?

oh rite didnt know dadi had gone, wikipedia has let me down! someone needs to update the current squad page!

think the nix should be looking for some more lower league brit players on a free, with the money now similar with exchange rates being fav towards aussie/kiwi dosh and high tax here, then we could get a couple of crackers.
