Just, where is the evidence that Smeltz's missus hated Wellington so much and desperately wanted to leave? All rumour isn't it. I mean, Smeltz missus probably would prefer Gold Coast climate to Wellingtons, who wouldn't. But I wouldn't think Smeltz is 'on the whip' as such to her and he does whatever she wants him to. There is no evidence of this?? simon_hampton2010-04-09 10:31:45

Did you watch him this season ?  Big difference between reputation and actual delivery.  No thanks.

Difference in reputation and delivery, yes, but the reputation was earned with PSV/Twente- so came from somewhere. Plus he's better than what we have in that department. You wouldn't say no if he was keen would you? Not that he will be of course.

Traore, Miller and Smeltz, thanks.
You know we belong together...

yes i agree. Culina did not impress me at all. I think he ruined his footballing career coming back to AUS.

Also, Fowler reported to be going to SYD.

Terry will be on the phone to Smeltzy already i'd imagine.

Culina - over rated, over priced, not what we need.
Smeltz - see above (keep in mind he won't be cheap).
Traore - if priced right, yes thanks.
Miller - 12 mth contract, with incentives (Mrs Macs).
Minnecon - Not what we need.
Miron - Yeah right.

SurgeQld - sack him.

We love you Smeltzy, We do

not sure that shane would come back here...more likely to saty in Oz or go overseas to asia, also I seem to remember that he didnt think that we had the credentials to win the A league so dont think that we would be top of list

Smeltz training in Melbourne, bet the locals will be on the sidelines quick smart, either Heart or the Victory.

Cant see him coming back here. think he would consider it a backward step, esp after some of the comments he made.

Traore yes

He could join the Victory and take a seat beside Mossy.

Smeltz to Korea I'd imagine.

Out of all the GCU squad, have to agree Traore is who we'd be after.

Most likely Culina to Heart, or back overseas to resurrect his reputation. Doubt they want Culina in Victory with Hernandez.

Could see Smeltz signing for Heart. I'm not sure anywhere outside of Asia is looking at him(?), and his best bet there would be a Japan gig.
Very very slim chance he would come back here, tail between his legs after his comments.

Still can't believe the Gold Coast is gone, Clive has ruined football in the region. Imagine how the fans must feel, I didn't see that coming at all even with poor crowds.

Culina to heart? how could they afford him? their squad is stacked already. Surely he'd look at going back to Europe. I'd say Smeltz will go to Asia or if he puts in a decent performance at the world cup that another Turkish club could come calling.

Would anyone want Smeltz for marquee?

Traore please.
Miller. Hell no!

He nearly went to Turkey at the beginning of last season- whether there is still interest I do not know.

Thing with Smeltz is that he has been the highest goal-scorer over the last two seasons of the A-League. He'll be able to get a gig somewhere. I certainly don't think he is god's gift- however I believe that he is no worse than Killen/more to his bow than Fallon (from what I've seen)- so no reason why there wouldn't be interest in him from clubs of Championship level around the world.

Apparently both of them are very upset.

People are right about Smeltz. He is as good as Killen an Fallon...and they both play at Championship level so why he has not been picked up is a surprise. Never even invited for a trial

A double Golden Boot winner in the A-League must count for something. You would think there would be some action from second tier countries like Turkey, Belgium or even the Middle East or Asis. If I was Smeltz I would sack my agent.

I would bet my house that he does not come back to the Phoenix. Love to see him and Ifill together.....but it won't happen.

I duno. If his MRS is all over it Brisbane is probably a good option. Then again a world cup where he's playing with Brown, Bertos, Lochy, and Pasty could be helpful in making sure he's interested in playing with the boys!

That's on the assumption that he's staying in the A-League

Agree, but he was injured most of the season.

I'd be keen on Minniecon and Traore.
Miller on a 1 year contract only. He can still provide that spark.
I cannot believe that smart guys such as Tony P and Ricky will offer Porter a contract after seeing how sh*t he was last year.

I have to say, I love Greenacre but he hasn't really set the world on fire. However, he has played 10 times better than Porter. So keep Greenie, screw Porter. And get someone else on board.

The Mariners have released some useful players.

I wouldn't mind seeing any of these 4 for the Nix:

Dylan Macallister - target man; could be good at knocking balls down for Greenacre.
Nicky Travis - young creative midfielder
David D'Apuzzo - left back
Panny Nikas - NYL player of the year, already mentioned earlier in thread.

Apart from Travis (possibly - he's pretty inconsistent) none of those players are better than NZFC players in the same roles.

Remember, these are players unwanted by a club that finished well behind us last season.

Travis outplayed McGlinchey for the last half the season
I think we'll sign Miller on a 1 year deal - he seems to be struggling to find a club

I know it's a bit of a stretch but how about someone from Portsmouth as Marquee? Anyone heading towards the end of their career.. Kanu?

Argh I don't want Miller. Cannot stand the bloke, he doesnt even look like a professional footballer, he's fatter than jesse ryder.

I think Porter would be okay, he's played at a decent level and he was playing with Smeltz who hogged a lot of the ball. I'd be happy with him on the bench or pushing Greenie for a starting berth.
