Didn't Ricki say that some of the signings can't be revealed until after there contracts finish at there former clubs?

Says that we're chasing North so Ricki can play 3-4-3.

No North means back to standard 4-4-2 I suspect.

The whole Jade North situation is reminding me too much of a certain Joel Porter that we were going to sign...

Interesting comment from Ricki:

"Both players had been brought to Wellington with a "strong view" to being signed by Herbert, as opposed to a classical trial situation, the coach said. "

Suggests that both Shuker and Cornejo are all but signed and can only play themseleves out of a contract tomorrow night rather than the reverse.

This Shuker guy sounds and looks like he is gonna be an amazing asset for us.

So bloody excited to see new talent. f**k it's like Christmas!

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Exactly, we've already got Party All The Time and Danielinho for that.

Reminds me of Landon Donovan.

Receding hairline and massive forehead would be the key to the Donovan look.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

So Shuker's official nickname will be "Sloth"?

Can you imagine him and Elliott in the midfield together? Too much forehead

This is a much more realistic better pic of ribery....

he also could do the role of Donovan too. Striker / midfielder.

I'm not neccessarily a fan of this 343 system. Especially if it means bertos defending more.  But if he signs the three main player we are after then we'd be looking at something like this:

            Paston
   Sigmund North Durante
Bertos     Brown       Lochhead
              Toto
Shuker    Greenacre    Ifill

Which in essence does look a decent squad if this cornejo guy does perform. But it still feels like we are not neccesarily utilising our players in their best positions. The CM role would be interesting as we would be havinf Muscat, Lia Brown, Diego all vying for that one / two spots.

This also means playing this system we would have to sign another CB. Because Musa cant be the only cover. But i guess Manny can do a job there if needed.

Overall though id be happy with Shuker.  Looks like Viera is doubtful

Yeah thought that too. He would actually do quite well in that role. But subbing Daniel for Lochead?  Guess he'd end up playing much higher up the pitch

I think Dura would be the man in the middle of that 3.
And if we lost a CB I'm sure we'd just revert to a 4-4-2.

I'd see more this:

           Paston

   Sigmund Durante North

Bertos     Muscat       Disco

           Brown

Shuker    Greenacre    Ifill

Reasoning Muscat played well in that defensive mid at the end of last season, what it also gives us is cover for the the back three when under pressure.

Because he's also played as a defender, he can slot into the middle with Durante when either Siggy or North push wide to protect the wings.

This should also free up our two speedsters Disco and Bertos to not have to keep defending all the time, and be able to push forward more.

Brown i would have in the attacking mid, cause he knows how to time his runs nicely, and has shown his threat in playing that role.

And if Shuker is this striker / midfielder role, it also means that worse case we can reshape during the match and have a bit more of a 4-4-2 formation without too much hassle

           Paston

Muscat Sigmund Durante North

Bertos Shuker Brown Disco

    Greenacre    Ifill

Bench i'd go with Daniel, Toto, Lochy and The Crow (or Gouldy), i think Daniel has always been a better impact player off the bench to me, really lifts the team in those last 20 minutes or so, and i think bringing on someone like Toto (if he is as he's touted) woudl also bring some pace and fire near the end of the match when the other team is getting tired.goldienz2010-07-22 12:15:34

Get Daniel in there. He finished last year really well. Shuker, if signed, can try dislodge somebody thanks.

Switch Ifill to the right, where he is most dangerous and Daniel top left.

Also, Im really not sure Disco has any kind of left foot, so can really see him being used on the other side.

But surely if Shuker is signed he'd be fighting for that ring wing role. He apparentlh has deadly crosses and can score goals too.
A front three of brits haha

Yeah hearfield wouldnt do well on the left, we tried it and failed iirc. But would make an interesting sub.

Has anybody used the phrase "Wellington Phoenix feeder club Tranmere Rovers" yet?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I tend to have a philosopy of giving the incumbent first opportunity, and obviously that depends on form and who the new player is. But I dont think Daniel has played himself out of the team (in fact he was moving in the right direction last year) and I dont know that Shuker's CV is sufficiently compelling to slot him straight in at someone else's expense.

That's fair enough. Somebody's got to wash the strips and fill up the water bottles.

Is Mulligan Ricki's love child or something, he seems to be given a job, and not have to do much at all...

seriously? he's finally off contract with the nix and now there are rumours that he's one of the players who might get a contract. that guy is probably the most talked about non-but-kind-of-maybe-A League player in history

No there aren't, rubberducky is pulling your leg. Mully himself said on TV the other day that he'll be playing NZFC for a while and then trying his luck in the US next year.

Haha thats no way near possible for mully to be coming back.  Clapham would definitely be higher on the list, and Ricki said because hes not under 21 and we already have enough midfielders so hes not interested

Clapham has been told Ricki doesn't need him because we have enough CM's. Yet we are keen on signing Elliott. The latter would be a great addition to the team as he would start but gotta feel for Clapham. Unless he can score a contract with the Fury I can't see him playing any higher than NZFC this season.

Everyone is still traumatised by the fact Mully was at the Phoenix in the first place....

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

This is the best part of this seasons trialists IMO. The fact Greenacre* & Ifill have actually got some contacts coming over must mean they are happy enough with the whole setup.

*unless RH had spotted Shuker last season when looking at Greenie
