Congratulations to him though.  Maybe he can be our scout over in Malta.

Congrats to Manny. Malta, of course, aren't going to go to the World Cup any time soon but it would be great to get experience against top teams like Sweden and Czech Rep.

Dodd trialling at the Jets

Newcastle Herald "Wellington Phoenix defender Karl Dodd and central midfielder Joseph Youssef, from Victorian Premier League side South Melbourne, are set to begin trialling with the Jets today."

Well done to manny. Great effort and well deserved.
Also great advertising for the club and the league alike.

Would be awesome if he could scout some talent for us haha

Oh wow!? I thought he chose to leave so he could push for Asia? Dunno if he'll get on with some of those players.. Just thinking about THAT red card

Maybe he wanted to be guaranteed a starting spot by us and we couldn't offer that so he left??

New Castle needs backs.

Not really, the article reckons they need Midfielders. So they are looking at Doddy?? Hmmm.

Why? The man's a professional footballer without a job... makes sense to me.

His reason for leaving seems to be that we weren't competitive enough, and he wants ACL football, the latter I can understand (kind of).

Maybe he can't handle playing for a club that finishes higher than last!!!

With the exception of Smeltz and Moss I don't have any worries about the "Outs".

I think Paston is a very good keeper so as long as the back-up is also A-League standard then Moss's loss is manageable. The bigger worry is replacing Smeltz. Greenacre, for me, actually replaces Kwasnik (2nd striker running off target man) and we have yet to replace Shane in his target man role.

I'm very happy with picking up Diego and also think the better of Krishna & Corrales will be a useful addition - along with Kruse (assuming his head is in the right space).

I think it's far too early to be negative about the squad for next season - my view is the opposite - we have, by virtue of the players who have moved on, given ourselves the opportunity to really improve the squad.

Having said that if we fail to come up with a quality target man my optimism would dissipate quickly.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I thought Greenacre looks very similar and possibly even better than Smeltz- though Shane has been in super form...Greenacre seems to be capable of things Shane isn't, but we will have to see what he produces...

Kwasnik didn't know what he was and didn't deliver anything...so anyone is an improvement on him.

Actually of them all the one I feel worst about is Dodd who gave us real depth and injury cover across the back 5. Our defence was a major positive for us last season.

Don't forget Lia is back from injury too...

waiting on the signings to come before judging, but the two main signings so far are good players for the positions we need filled..

yes and he probably wanted more money than we had to give him I think. I imagine he would have been somewhat pissed off if Dura was on substantially more than him...

I think I heard on the radio last weekend that James Bannatyne was going to be training with the Nix ahead of the Confed Cup to get up to speed.

Will Pevs take an under 21 spot?

Permalink Permalink
almost 17 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Having started the game with a predominantly young line-up, Sydney FC looked strong in the first half but was denied time and again by the Macarthur keeper, with New Zealand Under-23 National representative, Roy Bell pulling off a number of great saves to keep the home team in the contest.

if crowther doesnt make the cut, would be interesting to keep tabs on this guy. The name rings a bell (excuse the pun), maybe sat on the bench as reserve keeper for the knights once...?

I hope so.  Pevs is a jolly good player.  Barron as well - everytime I've seen him play I've been more than impressed.
