Yeah they can.  Hearfield did for us last season.

Edit:  Strictly speaking Hearfield is an Aussie (thus not an import) but those players you mentioned are also Aussie.
Exactly, given that the 3 U21 players rule is for developing Aussy (and in our case Kiwi) talent, therefore say a Brazilian U21 wouldn't count towards filling our 3 slots.

Are you sure about this?? I don't think they have to have citizenship?

Although I don't know

A club could claim that they are trying to naturalize this player?

Did a pretty wide, albeit unofficial survey on Chris Greenacre among Tranmere supporters at the "winner take all" game against the Mighty Iron yesterday. Not one negative opinion expressed . . . there was a feeling that he should at least have been on the bench having travelled with the team. Everyone expressed the view that 'Greeny' is at least League One standard - quick, intelligent, knows where the goal is and providing he gets good service (which he should from Diego, Daniel etc.) will deliver the goods. Ill probably upset a few people by saying that the top teams in the A League are about middling League One (at best) but thats how I see it, so he could do well.
By the way the atmosphere at todays game (a 1-1) draw was fantastic - imagine 6000 Yellow Fever and 2000 away supporters in an 8000 capacity stadium with a low roof to amplify the sound - you'd get the picture. The Nix at the ROF beats 30,000 at a Hurricanes game but really nothing in the A League compares.

We should sign Corrales 2 inject a bit of speed in the team, which is something we lack. Wouldn't mind if we signed both Krishna and Corrales. Not sold on Kruse, we need passionate players who are going to perform well as a unit not people who have 2 alcohol related incidents in a singular season. I mean look at the Kiwi Rugby league team, shows what a team can achieve when you have an entire team gunnin to achieve the same thing

As per the stuff article on the main page it looks like being either Krishna or Corrales, not both.

No mention of Kruse in the article. Is he trialling or has he already gone home?

He was never going to be here this week and hasn't been yet.  I believe the quote is 'there have been discussions'.

Incidentally, not sure if we have posted this somewhere else but Fever Scholarship winner Marco Rojas was meant to be there this week as well, but he turned an ankle on Saturday and has had to postpone.

We'll let people know when it is re-scheduled for.

Oh good stuff - Yeah I'd be keen to go have a watch if I could get myself there

It should only be one of the two players. But if both proved to be amazingly good then who knows. I'm thinking that Crowther should be signed.
I was never a fan of the youth keeper idea because I didn't like the idea of Paton having all the time as number 1 with his little understudy watching on the bench, but this guy should hopefully compete which will be awesome

That's what RH seems to think of Crowther anyway.

Herbert said Crowther had been brought to Wellington to stake his claims to the starting keepers spot, pushing incumbent Mark Paston.

As posted on NZ football's website.

With this second 'youth' squad, we'll need to sign another 13 players or so won't we?  Just looked at the other teams squads and they have 13 youth players.  I hope (and am confident) that Ricki and Tony will have looked at youth players in case the youth team got the go ahead.

The problem that I see is how will NZFC teams feel about the Nix stealing all of their good youth and then having to play against them?

Have a listen to the interview Valeo, Tony makes it pretty clear that they won't touch any youngsters already with NZFC sides.

if a youth player is playing really well that means he can then be called into the 1st team right?

So where will they come from do you think News? Our best are either on scholarship in the States or already involved with a franchise aren't they?

That's how it is with the Aus clubs. I'd be very disappointed if we don't get the same right.

Younger than the Scholarship lads I would think.

Current generation of Scholarship lads mostly played NZFC this year so the Phoenix will look at kids from the next age group down I imagine... kids coming out of schools this year that aren't already tied to NZFC sides ?  Perhaps some of the current U-17 squad who trained with them last year.

NZ Football might like the idea of putting the top 17/18yo players in to an environment here where they continue education but can football full time around that.

The problem for the NZFC sides might arise if the kids they have want to join the Phoenix but then that is for the clubs to deal with.

is it actually going to be a youth team or a reserve team where the likes of mulli etc can play

Mixture of both.

Could possibly be based on the same rules as the NYL, under 21s plus 4 or so older players. We could also look at Aussies who haven't been picked up by A-League youth teams.

I think there could be a reasonable amount of movement of young players if the Nix get a youth team.

If your a young player looking at making a career out of football, which NZFC playing team would you want to be in if the nix had one involved??

Zane Sole and Marco Rojas for example would develop quicker in that professional environment around professional players than amongst fellow amatuers / retired pros.

I know who i'd rather have looking at me in trainings and seeing what i can do.

Exactly, and for those guys it's clearly going to be a good thing for them to have that experience and the possibility of playing in the A-League if injuries etc come about without having to get a full time professional contract.

It depends whether you see the NZFC as the pinnacle, or an opportunity.  I bet if you asked the kids involved they'd jump at the chance to have even the opportunity of making it in the A-League.  We're talking 7 or 8 lads here, this could be the best thing that ever happens to them football wise.  Imagine if Siggy had this opportunity at 18 instead of 28?

This is true.

But this is the reason why lots of the youth players are going to want to make the switch and the other clubs may feel hard done by.

AND what happens when our youth players and a few bench players go and win the NZFC? What happens to O-League?

Pretty sure the Phoenix reserves would not be eligible to play in the O-league - and even if they were, I'm sure the NZFC clubs would insist on them not playing the O-league if they qualify as a condition of entry into the league.

Clearly they aren't going to play in the O-League, the first team isn't allowed to play!

Like SQ said, it's a bit more complicated than that. But I think we can all safely assume the reserves will not be playing the O-league.

The whole point is the fact they get to play somewhere at all which is a big plus for us... no need to muddy the waters any further...

Looking forward to the derby at the ROF already... first home game maybe?

I know they wouldn't play the O-League- my real point is who would play if we won? We will have some great players playing in that side over the season so its not unlikely that we could win!

But what whoud happen? who would get the spot?
2nd place?
Or maybe we could just not be eligible for the playoffs?

easiest way would just make us inealigable for the O League. So if we won the NFC the next two best placed teams would go through.

AFC.  It's passed NZFC clubs, NZ football, the Phoenix (funnily enough), and FFA.
