I wouldn't be suprised if Herbert brings a couple of giant africans back with him on the plane .
theres got to be plenty of them over there. cheap as chips seeing as he is in the poorest area too. I wonder if he will hang around for a few days after the confed cup to check out the local talent?

Good. They can take all the time they like I reckon. I don't ever want to see some Jardel-type disaster at this club.

How long can we wait? And where are these 'right men' going to come from?
Is the European transfer window still open? When does that close?
Where else are we scouting? Anyone know?

Dutchman still to come, some other Europeans possible as wel...

We've got 8 weeks to work through it and maybe even in to the season.  If the people we're trying aren't considered better than Costa then we start with Costa, simple.

Quite a few of the other clubs are in the same position as us, trialling all sorts.

I dont mind how long it takes, better to have a good look at what is on offer.

The longest off season ever is drawing to a close, second by second, love the countdown clock

how much better are Perth? Remembering that they've lost Rukavitskya, Amaral and Dadi will be getting on.

Amaral is gone, new striker in Jellic from Bundesliga, current socceroos Sterjovski and Burns plus English Defender Andy Todd. Perth is looking a lot better

Yea totally agree, perth look good. I like how they're bringing in soccer-roo's , must be great for the league. I think we should look at some of these former and current aussie internationals who are wanting to come back to the a-league. I would also like to see a youth marquee player. I think its disapointing we don't have either a youth marquee or marquee. it would bring in the crowds and if its the right player it would enhance the squad compelety.

with the length of the A-league off-season, we'll do better to buy at the end, in order to take full advantage of the process of human evolution

Not sure how it works with a youth player, but a senior marquee would cost the Nix (Terry) a small fortune.

How realistic is that when the club doesn't even have a major sponsor? (More money out of Terry's pockets?)

I'd rather spend the money on a couple of decent quality non-marquee players to strengthen the squad, and revisit the marquee idea when/if we need one down the track.

Here's a Google translation;

Eddy for the (photograph) play next season possibly for Wellington Phoenix. The attacker of FC Dordrecht develops coming week a training period at the club New Zealand. This communicates RTV Rijnmond Saturday.
For the is possible transfervrij leaves from Dordrecht and hopes on a foreign adventure. In nine seasons, he played profvoetbal in the Netherlands 56 time for the 230 competition duels and scored. (JvE)

I suspect he played  in the Eredivisie at Waalwijk as well.  Probably at the same time as Ivan Vicelich.

Brian Turner was on the radio yesterday saying that Ricky was doing some scouting at the Cup (or build up to the cup). Maybe an African striker on the way? I wonder if Torres would be keen for a change

thought this would happen. A huge african striker could be something we need someone that can run for days on end and tower of the opposition. wiin win?

Putter here next Thursday if my interpretation of the Google translation is correct.

"Eddy Putter hopes in the short term to New Zealand to move. The attacker of FC Dordrecht, the free transfer this summer, will next week placements in Wellington.

I let my agent know that I like to play in Australia," explains Putter to ELF from Football. "He came with a contact and thus the ball will roll."

"My girlfriend is studying medicine", continues Putter. "They must now internship in an English country. It seems to us seems to enjoy the adventure together to go."

But first Putter is just enjoying his holiday. "I was originally ten days to Spain, but I need to shorten. Next Thursday I have been in New Zealand reported. But I think not very. I want to make a permanent contract in Wellington to enforce. "

So if we sign this Putter then Wellington gets another Doctor as well. Don't you just love the wonderful community spirit of the Phoenix

I recall Tony P saying a few interviews ago that we had 2 strikers and a youth player to sign to complete the initial 09/10 roster. That takes to squad up to the minimum of 20.

A squad of 20 seems sensible - little point in going over the minimum until we have a youth team to give fringe players game time, also leaves a slot or 2 for too good to miss opportunities.

Currently signed up are;

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON FIVE (09/10):
#4) Jon McKain
#7) Leo Bertos
#10) Michael Ferrante
#13) Troy Hearfield
#16) David Mulligan
#17) Vince Lia
#23) Costa Barbarouses
#22) Andrew Durante
#1) Mark Paston
#25) Manny Muscat
         Reece Crowther

CONTRACT EXPIRES END OF SEASON SIX (10/11):
#3) Tony Lochhead
#6) Tim Brown
#11) Daniel
#18) Ben Sigmund
#31) Diego
#30) Chris Greenacre
