Mario Jardel FTW!!!
Funny you mention him, he is getting even more complacent about his fading football career. He has just been contracted to Rio Branco in Acre Brazil. They play in Serie C. He didn't even turn up to his presentation!!

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Lotsa UK based players have been released lately or are available on frees. Although he's not tall and built like a target-man I'd love to see Leroy Lita out here in a 'Nix shirt.

I came across the pfa transfer directory on a Charlton site - quite a few strikers that are outta work right now:

He's like any footballer, you wave enough $$ in front of his face he'll go anywhere.

I'd prefer his little brother 750ml!

Jamie Cureton / Chris Iwelumo re-united would be a dream...

Otherwise I am sure Julian Joachim could be enticed from King's Lynn.

I see both Michael Bridges and Dwight Yorke are available. Would we want them?

was reading last night, german striker carsten jancker is unattached. he'd be perfect I remember watching him several years ago. he's tall, a target man, lots of experiance and very strong in the air.

I wonder if Tony P ever reads these suggestions...

Some Nix fans doing good work here. Keep it up.

Okay, maybe some of the names are so far out of left field, they're not even in the park, but there's always the chance someone may spot a player who's slipped through the Nix management filter.

The more eyes helping in the search...

Only problem with jancker is he is 34 years old, and i know wiki isn't a good reference point, but it says he was only good when he played alongside Giovane Elber

from this radio interview with Ricki from the other night sounds like a number of irons are still very much in the fire.  One may go on the China trip (as a trial), and another in contract negotiations that wouldn't require a trial (automatic signing if he'll sign or something Ricki said)

fingers (and everything else) crossed for good news soon

Did Ricki mention "Irons"?

Nope don't think so, but obviously it would be someone proven or already known to him or others whose opinion he respects I presume. Wonder if that one is the English or the South American one?

In all seriousness, rumour is he has been offered to a couple of the big-spending clubs over here.

I doubt any A-League side could afford him or if he'd really be keen to come here, but it would be one f**k of a statement of ambition for any side that managed it.

Morientes and Greenacre up front.  f**k yeah !!

Was lucky enough to see Morientes play for Liverpool on several occasions and I must say that he would be an awesome acquisition for the football club!

It would definately announce to the rest of the league that we aren't in the competition to make up the numbers!

It would be an investment for the clubs future also as the younger players would learn a huge amount from the guy!

Or he would just see it as a paid holiday :P Would be awesome though. Would love us to show that sort of ambition.

He can't be that bad...

Derbyshire, who arrived in Wellington yesterday, made 12 appearances last season for the Red Devils' reserves, who are coached by former Norwegian striker and Old Trafford legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer...

The Phoenix were unaware of his move to the capital, but chief executive Tony Pignata said yesterday: "A kid at that age and on our doorstep, we'll be having a look at him."

Very strange..PFA says "have I got an opportunity for u.."...if he is that good and stats say he was capable of EPL reserve then why hasnt he gone to another EPL club or even a championship one?  Most players bust a gut to play EPL etc so when he has got that and survived............Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
