'Very good' is taking it a bit far I think but he certainly has the potential. Would've been interested to see him in the 2nd half when we weren't long balling so much.

What I was thinking too.
keep this guy trialling as long as we can so Ricki can get good looks at him and the longer we train with him, hopefully the staff will figure out hat kind of mentality he has.

Only problem is that we've only got one more pre season game to go

Sounds like it is going to be Jiang. Let's hope he is motivated, disciplined, trains well and stays away from karaoke!

If it is, I wonder if it could be some sort of longer relationship with Tianjin Teda? Tony did mention establishing club relationships as one potential outcome of the tour at one point.

Does this mean Wellington Zoo will have to get some Panda's in to make him feel at home?

True.  Some of them play Nintendo DS.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I reckon there's a high chance we'll sign the chinese dude because A) he appears to be talented and B) the Chinese community in Wgtn is huge and that would increase crowds numbers during the season.

Who knows, maybe we'll sign him AND a target-man?.....

Well 4 of us did last year.  But actually we came to see the Nix so it didn't really matter who was playing.

FFS can we get away from the China thing and just concentrate on what it takes to build a team of talented players and grafters that will do us all proud this season?

bit of a shambles from sigmund that first goal, greenacre's was a classic, crowther howler for their second and still not convinced any free kick, no matter how good, from that distance should look that unstoppable. strip looked good. what was written across the front or was it just a big white space?

Replay during the match of the free kick showed Crowther moving a step in the wrong direction before diving towards the right direction.

There was definitely some kind of hype in the asian community in wgtn. Now, to say that 10K asians turned up to game would be lying, but I remember seeing more asian than usual whilst G** was with us. Really happy with all the signings, I think we do have a competitive team, with lots of offensive midfielders who have the capabilities of getting goals, and finally our own Costa with the chance of showing his worth.

However I hope we'll sign another striker even if we sign "John".

Calling him John?  Thank is pretty lazy by the team.

Its probably pronounced quite close to 'Jong' or something. But yeah quite lazy.

Wonder how his English is?
So that means we will have 1 import spot still left right?

I've found the following information about him:
There are way too many Jiang Chen's in the world to find information about this one!

If you want info on Jiang Chen the Scientist, or maybe Jiang Chen the executive officer, then I might be able to help..

In all seriousness, its not likely anyone will have seen him play apart from SCO3, and he said that he didn't really take note of him and got nullified by Siggy and McKain he thought?

the nix management must think he is alright even if we dont. they've trained with him and he must have proved his worth then otherwise his trial game was slightly lack luster.

What? He played 45 mins in the game that everyone watched. Didn't really get much ball to feet and looked frustrated. Did look like he had a bit of skill and could be useful though.

Sorry to go about this, but guys, here's a bit of Cross-Culture 101:

  • Asia is a Continent.  Jiang Chen is from China...a country in Asia
  • So the "Asian" community includes Japanese, Koreans, Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans etc
  • I don't think many Koreans would turn up to see Jiang or any other Chinese player.
  • Similarly as we have signed Greenacre I wouldn't expect lots of Europeans to turn up ("Pierre, I hear there is ein Englander playing for the Nix -  let's go" "Mais bien sur Heinz, Allons-y!")
  • Chinese names put the family name first and the personal name last, so Jiang Chen's surname is Jiang.
  • Pronouciation of Jiang:  Think of it as Jee-yang said quickly (Jee as in Jeez Wayne).

Back to footy now...

Isn't Australia Asian now or is it restricted soley to football??

If the guy can do the job, it is looking promising this season with the other signings so far.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Agree totally.  A few unknowns - young guy in a new environment.

For me the encouraging news is that Costa is getting some game time and seems to be stepping up.

Would be good to see a Leo-Costa combination go well!
