Moreintes/ Figo?

Would be amazing, but are we sure that this is a good source? I mean, if a journalist looked through a few forums he could find these names thrown about..

let's be realistic: ain't gonna happen! Besides, they're both pretty old. And although Figo has done well till recently for Inter Milan, he's way too old. And if either of them came, would it be as marquee or guest player? The second option is basically useless if you ask me. Sure it may raise the profile of the club, but I question its financial viability.
I watch Italian news everyday and last I heard of Figo, he was going to retire and possibily join the staff at Inter Milan.

Morientes I don't know.

Morientes "pretty old" ffs, 33 or 34 is hardly old even for a striker, we are not challenging for the UEFA Champions league are we? I love this site, "nah forget Morientes he's pretty old to be playing for us".

If you do watch the Italian news then you'd know the Italian leagues have lots of strikers playing in their 30's. Check out the Coca Cola leagues, teams regularly have a striker or 2 into their 30's and most of them are nowhere near the quality of Morientes.

I'd be gobsmacked if he is not picked up by a decent eurpopean club soon.

If Morientes considered coming here at 34, I'd sell the wife into slavery to help fund the deal- "Pretty Old", my god.

When I think of Marquee players I think of a players who may have been lucky to get the odd season at premiership or a similar level or someone who has played regularly a division or 2 below the top flight but with a proven track record. Not someone who played for Real Madrid week in week out for years.

Can we stop being delusional about players that are not coming to the Phoenix? Can we try an remember what league we are playing in?

How much do you think you would get for her then FT ?

I have it on a very reliable source that these players (Tristan and Morientes) were offered to A-League clubs, including the Phoenix, at a price around $1.5-2.0m a season.

Actually she's not in bad nick, at least double figures?

Yeah but I'm sure they would have been offered to pretty much every league in the world?

What was the source not tribalfootball?

I'm sure if we were rich we could also buy Ribery or pinch Alonso, No?

Not often I agree with FrankieMac, but there are other A league clubs that have better pulling power than us One minute we are looking at signing  players like Astroclaus or Putter the next Morientes? Does not scan.

My main point was that someone actually thought Morientes was too old i.e. not good enough to play for us. My god.

So Morientes is only worth around 700,000 pounds? Cambridge United got 500.000 for just a sell on fee for Kitson from Reading to Stoke in 2008. It would make him a complete bargain for any club, I cannot believe he would go for such a figure.

Hang on isn't Morientes on a free? So this is how much he wants to play?

Any truth to this or is it just idle speculation?

Apparently Ifill was training with Millwall. He's been badly struggling for fitness for more than a year which is a worry

Considered a pretty good player by all accounts on the Palace Message boards.

I'm sure I saw him play a couple of times. They showed CP a bit cause of Carl. I'm quite excited if this is true - he's 29. Only worry is his fitness. valeo2009-07-21 16:16:54

It would be good to see him and bertos on the winger. I image they would give pretty good service to the new target man (who ever he is)

Great signing - just reward for our patience and faith (tongue in cheek alert).

Well done Nix management team - roll on August 9.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Yeah, if we get a decent targetman I think our odds are going to get dramatically better

Are you suggesting that Paul will Ifill the hole behind Greenacre and Leo?

Or maybe Jesus? I can see those being sold in their droves downtown.

Wonder if we could get some man city strikers on loan? They got enough... Bojinov anyone?

i genuiely think, the nix should give astro and especiallyputter a go. I mean his stats were brilliant. and he never really got a chance. surely both of them are better than bloody potty. jian chen apparently has discpline issues, which is the last think we need.

but I'd say bring both anderson and chen to dubbo. one more chance only.

Drop Potty. He doesn't look to have impressed so lets not even bother wasting time for the team to Gel with him playing against the Mariners. We signed Ifill so I don't think Potty has a shotty. (sorry couldn't help).

Give Chen more time, but one resemblance of G** and get rid of him...  unless some of you are going to come out with the whole 'lets try keep him long enough to play for NZ". haha

But I agree. Especially give Putter a good run. Next week when Ifill is here, bring along Putter, maybe Astroclaus, maybe even Krishna. The full squad should be training together and we can see which strikers link well with the other squad players because we wont be signing anymore players after this striker me thinks.

Putter has been the only triallist not to have any games (I think), so he especially should be looked at, especially as he was quite keen to move down here. Unless his heart isn't in it, or his niggling unjury was worse than thought, we should give him a look.

Anymore news on Putter? Has he totally missed his chance? or have we totally missed our chance?

Yeah, sounds like he got down here, quickly picked up an injury, and couldn't be bothered trying to get back on the field. (obviously pure speculation, but thats how it probably went)

Bit disappointing because he did have a good record comparable to Van Dijk's.

Word is he wasn't really MLS level when at TFC. My mate over there has suggested we take a look at him though, and he does watch Nix games when he can, so maybe.

Also, he's been cut by Seattle due to long term recovery from recent surgery so he's not likely to be an option for this season anyway.

I wonder if this quote from Ricki after last night is an indication on who he wants to sign:

Jiang, in particular, was very good and showed he definitely has the potential to do well in the Hyundai A-League.
