What is the deadline by which we need to have 20 players?

Just saw on the nix 09/10 Wikipedia site apparently we are/were trialing " Alton Gonalves da Silva"
I don't remember his name ever coming up, is this just another case of wikipedia's natural tendancy to make things up?

He's old and very overweight by the looks of it.  Having said that his wife is called Rosalie and I knew a Rosalie a few years back and she was a babe so maybe he's a good option?

Noticed that too. I say potential vandalism/dickery, and am about to revert it.

I'd love to see Alen Marcina come this way again.  A great player.  John Tambouras as well but he's with NQF (according to wikipedia at least).

Yeah Alen Marcina would a great final striker signing. Similar physique to Chen too.

His season finishes in October, maybe a November transfer window signing???!!!

I wish.

I have feeling Tambo will get shown up in the level of this league now, always liked him as a player and person though.

I have to say that I am feeling a little nervious about our squad not being full yet. The cut-off date must be fairly close. Anyone heard anything?

How big is Chen - just passed a 6ft+ solidly built Chinese lad wearing a Nix tracksuit top in Lambton Quay. He was followed by a 5 ft nothing older Chinese gentleman, also in a Nix tracksuit.

Putting 2 and 2 together and getting 11 I am suspicious / hopeful this was Chen and his agent.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

He was definately pretty tall when I saw him play against the Chinese team. Taller than Greenacre, anyway.

Kinda looks a little chubby, looks different to how I perceived him from the game when streaming over the net.

As long as he is the goods and can score goals or assist our other strikers im happy. Im not hanging on to the thought of this fella being our highest goal scorer but hopefully he can contribute.

Hope he isn't moody like G** was. The only thing i remember from the Ghangzhou game was that he'd look up to the sky with a wincing grimace or looking down at his boots round-shoulderdly.

Obviously Ricki has seen enough of him to show real interest though.

We'll see.

The lad I saw today was a lot bigger than the 74kg listed on Chen's profile - more like 90kg - unless he was cold and had a few jerseys on.

Sounds like it's almost definate

"We're just doing all the documentation and final negotiations. I'm hoping to hear back some time next week with a view to getting Jiang Chen out later next week or earlier the following week."

Also sounds like he isn't here yet

I want to see yes .......... so I will.

Yes

Yep, just got it translated- that is Jian Chen (Jian = family name, Chen = given name)
Apparently the comments say that he won a few games for the club, which is awesome, and that he also has a 'strong' personality.

I'm very keen for a bench player who hads the potential to come on and win it for us.
Or even play Ifill behind Chen and Greenacre

Why is it that I'm the only one who can't open the link? Has China blocked Aussie or something?

Man, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) is still corrupt. That referee seems to be the worse official you can get. Until Chinese Football Association (CFA) cleans up their act, the Chinese national team is always going fall short of the top 5 AFC teams. They could easily be a powerhouse in the AFC but they always disappoint. Oh well, makes the playoff opponent one place easier for us.

Bad news guys, looks like this entire thread has been nothing but a fabrication.

The sports writers at the respected Australian newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald have assured fans across the ditch that no replacement has been found for Shane Smeltz (someone better tell Greenie and Ifill they're out of a job) and it seems we may actually only have four players, two of whom are spatially confused. The other two "have speed" though, which is something.

Meanwhile a Sydney side that are "still searching for a defensive partnership" and have questions over goalscoring ability will be pushing for the title, perhaps because they "are playing an exciting brand of football" *cough-ourfirstseason-cough* excuse me.

Could be a long season ahead...

...unless someone can round up and execute the entire Aussie media.
