How did he handle being tackled? I mean, did he go down quickly or actually took the tackle? Now that the refs are going allegedly to get tough on She fellovers.

Ps: whilst looking through google images for a pic of Jian Chen, I noticed El Grap.....

Wasn't in the game much but worked reasonably hard. Got annoyed and threw a bit of a tanty.

At least if he does dive then he will learn quick and it will build him up as a player. Hopefully this is a very successful year for all involved

When I first saw the picture I thought we had a new sponsor too!

Anyone know if there's plans to actually use the marquee? Seems a waste not signing someone with that cash? I'm not saying sign someone for the sake of it, but sign someone who can actually bring something to the team.

I saw a news report claiming that Terry made a profit the last financial year.

I saw another saying that hes also lost $2.5 mill on the Nix already.

I meant over all his business interests. Just making the point that he still does have quite a bit of cash, though whether he can spare it is conjecture.

fair enough. I just think that with all thats gone on this pre-season, and from whats been said by TP and TS, I think we can be happy with the 20 we have (which TP said would be the case in the 'John' article) S.O.N2009-08-05 18:33:59

I do remember them saying they were looking to probably not get a marquee, but then they also said that if they had the chance, they would give Fred marquee status...

I read that as well.  And for an Australasian club a $2.5m loss isn't too bad considering he said he's put in $12m.  So he's made back $9.5m, contrast that with the Knights who probably only made $9.50 back.

Good to see another striker signed up...I fancy we will need him.....and good to see that Kris Bright has gone to Shrewsbury.  Now he has had a good scoring record....21 goals in 2008.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

I'm wondering if you are thinking of the Rich List, which said that his equity (capital worth) had gone up, compared to last year, but that is a lot different to actually making a profit, or having cash available to throw at a Marquee.

Apart from that though, I think we have a good squad and room to move if we have to. Like if there was some deficiency showing up, we can get a player to plug the gap, or if we are close to top spot, we could strengthen the team with a guest/marquee

3 days 21 hours to go till we hit the Jets.

Terry S's net worth has apparently gone from $40million to $140million during the same time as he's lost $2.5million on the Phoenix.

It was also pointed out that NO club is making a profit, which is a bit worrying, but that's another story...

If the National Business Review's rich list is anything to go by it's just a drop in the ocean, with the NBR estimating Serepisos' worth had grown by $40m to $140m.

With the lineup we now have, would Fred be a smart buy?

Or would the marquee money be better spent elsewhere?

We have no player that can do what Fred does. (Diego is not that player) So yes, it would be a smart buy.

I'd say Fred would be a smart buy. No matter what our line-up was, it would be far better with Fred in it. Jag2009-08-06 10:21:46

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Agreed. A Fred or better would probably be the best buy for marquee. I could only see it going to a striker or playmaker and we do need a reliable play maker. Think its wuite unlikely we get him, but we did surprise last year..

We were rather unlucky last season with Fred's personal circumstances and events. I say bring him back. Let's have a Samba midfeild!!

Agreed man, Fred would be a class buy. Reckon he'd want to come back?

Why wouldn't he? He already came here once, and his departure was forced because of tragic events in Brazil, and had nothing to do with the club.
The best we can hope for (at least this year) is another guest stint.

Terry S was quoted in Dom Post today saying

We're hoping to bring Fred back again

so sounds like a guest stint is on the cards again this season.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason we have no marquee yet is because they're planning on splashing the cash to lure him here for the long term.
