I think Rivaldo may win the AFC Champions League this year... so he's still doing OK.

If we need another player at all to make us a better team - that is a proper targetman. someone who is 6 foot or over with a bit of bulk to muscle those high crosses down to Greenacre and to bury a few himself. As a matter of interest, who [realistically] would be out there to fit that mould? Someone like a Rory Fallon but playing at such a level that playing in the A League would be a realistic possibility.

Rumour has it Pondeljak is going to be free next season. Would be a very good signing if we could get him, a more consistant Cacares who can score!

who don't they want............

it's like Perth who said "yea, we're in talks with Kevin Philips and Recoba"

what did that come to ?

Yeah "want" is a funny word. Im sure we all would WANT Ronaldo or Giggs as a guest, but doesnt mean its going to happen!

not sure we all wanty giggs, but yeah lets just throw out names and make some buzz. GCU has sort of lost it lately so they are probably just trying to get their name out there again

Ryan's in career best form, I read an article somewhere the other day that suggested United had replaced Ronaldo, with Ryan Giggs. He's back out playing on the wing and his playing unbelievable. Scored and set up the goals again this morning.

However, this is not the United thread, so I'll stop going on about that. Anyone know anything about how Fred's going? I think the situation last year was that his contract expired after the MLS season. Not sure how it works over there, are they January to January contracts?

Also, of course nabbing him would also depend on how DC are going with respects the playoffs.

Kanu would be a big signing for the A-League, he's a top player, though he did come on as a sub for Pompey in the weekend, so it would need to be a deal with them, and they are hardly loving life at the moment. Think they probably need all the help they can get.

Barca fan too. Haha I would take him for sure - but the media would have to hype it up and I wouldn't want him using up all the clubs money.

I was sort of meaning that I would prefer other players over Giggs. Sort of worded it wrong

Kanu coming over sounds like some typical A-League hype...

Sounds like you want Mark Viduka.

He's coming back to Australia, and my sense of it is that he'll sign as a foundation player for the Heart next season.  (There was a rumor that he'd sign for the Victory, but it's been dismissed.)  However, both parties (Viduka and Heart) will have an interest in him getting a bit of match time in the meantime, preferably in the A-League.

Whether he goes to the Heart or not, Viduka would be a fairly good short-term prospect for the Phoenix.  (Wouldn't want him past this season, to be honest - he's too old and has recurring injury problems.)

Nice thoughts, but why would he come to New Zealand? He could go to any Aussie club and people would go to see Viduka; he'd be worthy of a guest spot there.

Anyway I personally doubt he'll play in the A-League this season, or next season, or play at all TBH. I hope he doesn't play for Melbourne 2, because I really want to dislike them :P

If Marko came to Nix, it would give me a reason to come to games in a Dinamo shirt...would be awesome.

Merrick has been interviewed on the subject, and dismissed a proper contract due to the salary cap and the Victory already having a Marquee player.  He wasn't exactly talking up Viduka as a guest for the Victory either, again raising financial concerns.

If Viduka wants to come in as a Marquee player, I think that puts him with the Reds, Mariners, or Phoenix.

You're probably right.  As far as the Heart go, you could always hate them for getting Viduka! ;)

Well Vidmar seems to insist on playing one up front... aussienixfan2009-10-01 18:51:28

He'd be worth more to an Aussie club, would generate more interest from aussies turning up to see him. Id imagine he'd be more keen to go to an aussie club to generate more interest and excitment in football over there too.

Allegedly

Get him on a guest sting for 7 games, he'll play 1 get injured and we'll all lament what a waste of money it was.

I don't mind picking an older marquee signing for a guest stint, but i'd want one i'd know has a fairly good health record to make sure i get my moneys worth.

agree with most these comments.  I think Mark is a great icon but would be a bit more suited to an Auz side. Imagine NQF with Fowler and the V-Bomber, would work off eachother quite well I reckon.

Question?: Can a guest stint player be loaned out from a club?
A random thought, would it not be good to loan out a player from overseas who is not getting much gametime in their club? If they prove themselves down here, then their club will see more of what they've got  and its a win win situation imo.
Imagine bringing back Rukavitsya or pulling a young star-to-be from Europe.
I guess if they want too much then its a silly idea because I guess they wouldn't create the hype, but its worth a go if its possible, because then the player who is coming will have real motivation to play well.

Yes, that's how we got Fred, he was (and is) under contract to DC United

me too. But think he will be higher up than Bellamy. I think anyway.

Seriously I'm wondering who could be a real Guest player option. Except for Fred of course.
Think the MLS might be the way to go with it being the off season? Or another league in the off season

Not so sure on that one... in this case you are supporting a Phoenix player so it's possibly acceptable.  It's when you do it for a visiting player you can take a stroll.

It would be under the sheik outfit anyway, so it wouldn't make all that much difference.

Not necessarily to the Phoenix, but Nagoya might loan Joshua Kennedy in the lead-up to their 2010 season.  (J-League starts in March, so he's got a similar window to Fred.)  Japan seems to suit him, but I'm only judging from the statistics and match reports.  Kennedy's been called up for Australia's match against the Netherlands, so there may be a bit of a flutter through the A-League if he gets time and looks convincing.

(I'm continuing to suggest Aussie strikers because the problem seems to be upfront, and, import slots are at a premium.)

I'd say Durante for sure. What about muscat? is he contracted for next year? And Lia? I'd resign them if they havnt been yet. Would love McKain but don't know. Think its more likely he will do a Dodd on us
