I'm wishing now that New Zealanders weren't counted as imports. Would love to see Christie, Barron, Mulligan, Scott picked up by a team who will actually play them! Barron looks like he's good enough to play at a-league level. Surely we have a goal keeper out there who can play at a-league level. but no one will sign a nzer who won't start.

Yeah I agree with that. Would be nice to see more kiwis spread about the league. Don't think Christie or Mulligan have set the world alight though. Neither really has Scott. Maybe next season we will see a few kiwis moving up in the world, especially after we win the cup

I can't see Kiwis going back to non-import status in the HAL unless NZ joins asia/another Kiwi team is added, both options look very unlikely.

It would be great to see another kiwi team added.

Auckland would be the obvious choice given their population base. If ran right like the nix they would theoretically pull in decent crowds and give Welly a much needed derby.

Also we'd see more young kiwis come through which can only be a good thing.

Brockie is the only one in the league atm for us. Really the only NZers that would be picked up as foreign imports if the Nix dissolved would be Sigmund, Lochhead (big maybe, form season 1 would be a most), Paston (I expect he would retire or play in NZFC though due to his age + family) and Bertos.

I don't understand why the FFA don't allow it. They could just say the club can sign another player for ACL, if they get in, to replace the player. So practically teams will have two seperate squads, ACL and A-League. This would work to attract big players from overseas for ACL squads aswell I imagine.

First 2 seasons I think, before Australia joined the AFC

sergio van dijke is off contract at the end of this season....the Roar is sending out mixed messages about keeping him

whould the phoenix want him?

I think he would be a fantastic signing....19 goals in 38 games for the Roar is a great return.
Him and Ifill would be lethal up front. Sergio is only 28...so would have a long term future. Lets face it Greenie has done OK but he will turn 33 mid next season...he won't get any quicker or better.

Sign the Dutchie!!!!

I rate Van Dijk pretty highly and think that it would suit Greenacre playing off a guy like him as well.

Don't think he'll come here though.

I wouldn't mind Van Dijk, he would be very handy.

I would prefer Matthew Leckie but he could fit that target man role!

You're completely missing the point though.

Van Dijk is very, very ugly.

I don't care if it looked like he'd been hit by a high speed train if he could score 10+ goals a season for us.

Leckie is sewn in for next year as well for the Reds.

I'd sign him up straight away. 28 is a good age, and is quality.
would be the type of player we need too

I doubt Postecoglou will let him out of his clutches judging by his previous comment that Brisbane should "break the bank" to keep him at the club.

4k is nowhere near enough for starters. Getting a base of 6k-8k every week is a minimum. As with the Nis, the first year and a half were great - once the novelty wears off, you'll probably struggle.

TBH, I can't see any other city here being able to sustain a side, without an altruistic owner who's prepared to lose money on the investment. Auckland can't get a good enough groundswell of people together, and I would feel confident in saying that Christchurch wouldn't be able to sustain any decent numbers once the initial novelty wears off. Their rugby team can't sell out a national final for a "rugby mad" province, what chance doesn't football have for long term sustainability?

There is no way in hell that a-league will grant a second licence to an Auckland team. they had there chance with knights and blew it.

Do you really know this??

Auckland is the only logical choice, with the best chance of having good crowds on a long term basis if the team and management is up to it. Anywhere else is just dreaming IMO

They gave us and NSL lilcense and we blew that up, then the FFA in their infinite wisdom didn't learn and gave Auckland another go in the A-League.

Do you really think they are going to 1: Give us a 2nd license and 2: In Auckland for a 3rd time?????

Grumpy old bastard alert

I dont think we will get a second license for some time and then I cant see another city with the ability to make it a success other than Auckland

Why must all Aucklanders think they'd be the only choice? Christchurch would fit the bill if there was someone out there willing to put their own money into it. I don't think support from fans would die out as fast as people think.

A fullback. Two in a squad is never enough.

Nikolas Tsattalios anyone ? 19 year old fullback, spent time at Sydney FC and Newcastle. Good cover maybe..

Do we need centre back cover? Agree with other two though. Esp creative centre mid. NO MORE attacking mids please.

I think McGlinchey is on a two year contract, might be wrong though.
