I think that we should use our guest appearance this season for a well known and very classy keeper. maybe someone from MLS?

Neil Harris is a legend as Millwall fans will testify. They guy overcame cancer to carry on with a good career.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

J2 is probably equal with the CSL (not that i've seen it, just guessing)

The CSL team that is chasing Smeltz were champions in 2008 though

J2 is largely amateur I believe. Spent some time in Sendai, when I was 18, who have a team in J2 but it's not at all popular.

From Thailand, a couple of guys who might be worth keeping an eye on are Anon Sangsanoi (striker, 25yrs, BEC Tero Sasana), and Kawin Thammasatchanon (goalkeeper, 19, Muang Thong United)

Anon has been top scorer in the Thai Premier league for the last two seasons 20  and 18 goals (30 match seasons). According to Wikipedia, he's scored 51 goals in 79 appearances. He was top scorer with 6 goals in 5 games (he only played 4) at the 2007 South East Asian Games (u-23 squads). He was also top scorer in Thai Division 1 for one (possibly two) seasons before signing with BEC. He's only had a few games for the national team - Wiki says 3 caps (1 goal), and the source quted by wiki has 6 caps (0 goals).
He's currently kept out by Sutee Suksomkit (Melbourne), Teerathep Winothai  and Teerasil Daengda ( both Muang Thong Utd). Teerathep is the poster boy of Thai football, currently back in Thailand on loan from his 2nd division Belgian club. Teerasil is another to watch, part of this year's Premier League champion side and playing in the SEA games now.

Despite being only 19, Kawin started all 30 matches of MT Utd's TPL successful campaign, and is also first choice in the SEA Games squad. He was awarded TPL Goalkeeper of the Year this season.  According to wiki he also played last season for MT utd when they won the first division.

Personally, I haven't seen much of these guys, having only returned to Thailand this year, but some their stats caught my eye, and I though they might be worth a mention.

My team if McKain leaves would be:
sign up Colosimo, bring in this Anon Sangsanoi or Marcus Tudgay(shines for Sheffield Wednesday) and then a decent Holding Midfielder to make the midfield better. This would be my team:

-------------Paston--------
Troy/manny-Colosimo-Durrante-Lochy
----------Lia/Brown---------------
Leo/Ifill--------------------Daniel/ifill
-----------Tudgay-greenacre/ifill---

good side to me

J-League >> Daylight  >> CSL. Dunno about J2 but not all J-League teams get great crowds so I suspect J2 teams don't get many.

Both CSL and J2 would be beneath Smeltz I believe, Turkey would have been much better.

Seriously, the way I see it, if Mulligan, Chen, and Ferrante aren't getting gametime then we should just release them.  Keep Diego based solely on his contract having an extra year on it and we know he can do well.  If we can find a better goalie then I wouldn't be too worried to see the back of Crowther.  We need to buy two good strikers and a good DM and I think Colosimo can tick that last box.  Only issue is would he want to come to Wellington.  Probably not.  Not like we've been linked with him anyway but he's a great player.

how about the right wing from Akl city who played at the fifa world cup for club recently? Hayne or something like that? Wasn't he with Waitakere? How old is he? I reckon give him a trial.

Just an attempt at a humourous observation. Obviously failed. No doubt that Old has really stepped up over the last couple of years.

Ivan Necevski is decent, had Bolton on the bench for a good part of last season I think. Wouldn't be a bad option at all.

I like the idea. We do have, after all, the best windmill in the league!
but seriously I'm quite worried. key players getting injured/booked.
I will be checking out this space like 10 times a day.
