I remember Newcastle signed Sean Rooney out of the Sydney youth team but I think it was short term and then they signed him proper before the ACL.

How about a loan striker or two out of the northern hemisphere winter break leagues..eg Poland and other more northern leagues.  Some sun would tempt them...

1st choice of course!!!!

why leave a proven keeper on the bench and have an apprentice playing as first choice.

yup one stays in the box the other thinks he;s a centre back.

if we can keep crowther for a few more years (and we get a youth team) he could turn into a really good keeper.

same, although could be a stand in as I can't remember what he looks like .

I think we should give up on the chinese imports, should look at a country that actually has a good national team. somewhere like japan would be a better place to look, they aren't known for their moodiness either.

Yeah so effectively we could do the same? It'd just be hard to find a youngster who would have the ability and be willing to break away from their parent club? Wonder if someone like the Mehbrahtu guy from GCU could be signed when he has played for them but doesn't have a contract.

I feel like this would be the most probable source of players who could come on short term notice

There are those AIS lads in Canberra, though they're bottom of the Y-League table.

I think signing Chen was part of a bigger plan to help build a relationship between the Nix and his Chinese club.

Anyone confirm that?

Or to get to 21 players before the season starts to avoid a fine?

20 is the minimum. We had 19 then signed Chen the day before the squad cut off. I think then Ifill maybe came a bit later.

if Chen is "on loan" then do we have to keep him until the end of the season? or can we send him back at anytime and stop paying him as soon as he leaves?

Sending him back may be a bit prem at this point... we might still need him...
in mids or back to plug holes....does he know kung fu??

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Only if it's warranted.

Reddy is a twat and a crap keeper to boot. Worst signing since Mulligan. (even though it's just an injury replacement)

When in Tianjin chatting to me and another Nix fan Tony P suggested they were talking to Tianjin about developing some sort of links, but of course didn't give any details.

I recall Chen being the last player signed to meet the minimum squad number.

Of course Chen knows kung fu, where do you think Muscat and Sigmund have been learning it?

We need to make an effort for Sergio van Dijk.  He is a quality player.  Worth a marquee spot in my books.
