You are thinking of Chris James.  Kris Bright has some talent problems... although I see he has played a bit for Shrewesbury.

O yes that's right.  Get those two mixed up all the time.

Hasn't scored much though.

With numbers like that he's slot straight in to the Chen spot.

He couldn't be worse than McBreen.

Transfer window opens today. wonder who they are interested in?

It appears as though a number of Australian A-League players are preparing to sign loan deals during the transfer window in a bid to keep ticking over ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Craig Moore looks set to join St. Johnstone in Scotland at the turn of the year. What will happen to the six Wellington Phoenix New Zealand internationals? If they stay with the club until March how much football will they get between March and June?

Six to eight friendly internationals between March and June won't be enough competitive football for the WP players, surely..?

but they want to be constantly training and playing to keep good form and fitness

Wait till they confirm how many warm up games. I think Australia are being smart about there WC preparation. Lets hope NZ can prepare just as well.

Heard on Radio this morn that we are definitely looking for new talent in the transfer window, but it could be just a player from the A-League.. Don't know who would be let go to come here though?

I'll be annoyed if we get someone and he's not a striker.

How about one of the Auckland City Players? The played well in the Fifa World Club.

I get the feeling we don't look enough at the top New Zealand clubs for potential talent. For instance, surely there's better in our National League than Chen!?

I agree!! more talent at home. and it wont cost as much either.

So, name me an NZ striker who has won an NZFC scoring title ?  The leading players in the NZFC last season were Corrales and Krishna, they spent 4 weeks or longer with the Phoenix and never made the grade.

...and as Chen's wages were mostly covered by Tianjin explain to me how someone local will be cheaper ?

Didnt Auckland City do well on the world club stage? Im sure they did and that was only recently. The fact that AWs have qualified was there main reason. Players like Adam Dickinson and Jason Hayne. The door is still open for them to make the AW's squad, so why not a Phoenix Contract.

I'll give you Hayne as worth a trial (assuming he is interested) and seeing as he's played in every NZ age group side he's hardly unkonwn but Dickinson would use an import spot, hardly tore up the Welsh domestic leagues and has yet to score an NZFC goal from memory.

What, won an NZFC scoring title ?

When ?

No, didn't read your post properly, I thought you were asking who is better than Krishna and Corrales

It would be great to pick up that elusive target man or, at least, a 2nd striker to complement Greeny. If we can pick up a second striker then Ifill will be freed up more to roam and create. With Caceres finding form and, hopefully, Leo returning back to his best we will have all the creativity we need in the midfield.

So, for me, it's all about a second striker.

Where from in the A-League ? I can see 2 options - a disgruntled starter who just wants to move on or a bench player who wants game time.

With respect to the former a player from the Roar or Adelaide (?) seem possibilities - van Djik would be absolutely perfect.

If you were picking up a bench player you would probably look at one of the top 3 teams (Sydney, Melb or GCU) where, potentially, a very good player may be being kept out of the starting 11 by even better players. Someone with a better knowledge of these teams squads may be able to suggest possibilities.

With a 2nd striker, Greeny back and some key players in good form (Ifill, Caceres, McKain) we could do very well.

I hope, behind the scenes, Tony P is on to it - good move to issue the press release letting potential signings know we are in the game.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Possibilities? Owusu or Cristiano? Both not used at Adelaide too much so could fancy a move. But I bloody hope we don't take either to be honest. Maybe Cristiano till the end of season?? But still think there is better talent out there.

Van Dijk not likely imo unless he hates Ange  too.

Bridge, Loloisi? Don't know. Bridge could be ok.

Dyron Daal would have been great but pretty sure hes happy. Could be McBreen seeing as hes leaving anyway??

CCM have quite a few strikers, so you never know with any of them?

Or you could get youngsters like Elasi from Melbourne who do have quality, but aren't proven so may be too harsh on Costa

Dadi is a tangible option, good size and not played, and proven. I really don't like the idea but he would come. If only option then I would take him over nothing just till the end of the season

I can't see many A-league strikers being a legit option.  Unlikely to get anyone from Sydney/Melbin/GCU as those players are more than likely going to stay put given the temptation of a ACL spot next season.
Anyone from Adelaide we would want? No
Anyone from Fury we  would want? No
Anyone from CCM we would want? No
Anyone from Roar we would want? Van Dyk - but he has been heavily linked to sydeny for next season so seems unlikely.
Anyone from Noocastle we would want? No
Anyone from Perth we would want? No

Dadi and Greenacre played along side each other at Tranmere, could be a good combination.

With seven games to go and probably finals football as well its critical that we get striker cover. If greenacre does not recover well and heaven forbid Ifill picks up an injury then the cupboard is bare. VDijk would be great but he would not move until end of season....only one I can think who would move now would be Dadi....could do worse for last 2 months of the season.

Can players be 'Transfered' in the A-league yet or can they just leave for a new club under bosman?

Can't be bought from other clubs but can leave by mutual agreement with their current club to cut short their contract ie. Caceres, Miller, Reddy Moore etc.

So this is the only way we are going to get anyone, so the player is going to be one who is not getting much gametime or is unhappy.

Players I don't want, but could actually fit under these limitations: Cristiano, Owusu, Dadi, ...

Kwasnik? (ok maybe not him lol). But the Mariners have never got their strikers sorted so maybe like McCallister a possibility? I don't know though.

At the end of the day, we are going to have to probably take another clubs scraps, and turn them into something useful. (Caceres)

In case there is no one in the A-League, I'm more than happy to fill in for the Nix up front if they ever want me. Offer is there.
