I can't wipe the grin off my face - this is just fantastic - preseason cup final, at home, in only our second season.

I love we can come back from 2-0 down - shows the team has real spirit and backbone.
it actually shows that ed baranowski could be one of a biggest strengths this season, in all three preseason games we've shown incredible fitness and been going strong right up until the final whistle

Hail Ed!

be nice if we can build on our pattern by introducing a strong first half to our performances

but yeah, way back to Liverpool in the eighties (and before that) good teams always finish strongly

Fair point.  However, let me just provide you with a summary of ALL the football coverage in the sports section ...

There, done it (unless I missed something).

That is truly appalling.

I will advise them of that when I cancel my subscription.

A few points on the game...

*Sigmund didn't really look that up to it. Easily flustered, suspect positionally - clearly at fault for the first goal when he let Brosque get inside him.
*Muscat looked nae bad, not perfect by any means though
*Jekyll and Hyde game. Was all Sydney in the first half when the Nix had absolutely nothing. Could've been three or four. Same can be said about the second half - all Nix. Once they got the first goal (inoccuous from a defensive mess-up between Fyfe and Necevski at our end), tails came up and it was on. Giraldi giving away a stupid penalty (Kwasnik was facing the corner flag and Giraldi put his hands in his back) was where the game really turned.
Although again, was a criminal backpass that allowed Gao to round Necevski for the second.

Nix need to start the game better, and will probably look better with Gao and Bertos on the pitch from the start, as well as certainly McKain at CB. But as I expected - easy top 4 material if not top 2.

Just gutted we threw it away being so defensively naive.

Good luck against the tards, hope you belt them.

cheers for the insights Jaza, it was a nightmare last night having so little information

agree having Mckain alongside Durante (after D comes back) will help

Mully should add a bit of solidity too

your lot must be unhappy at going into game 1 with 3 (?) suspended

midweek match under lights. doesn't get much better.
the nervous anticipation is with me already.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Even more unhappy at the way the cards were picked up. Both of Brosque's yellows over two games were as a result of him winning the foul and then mouthing off at the ref for not being sterner with the opposition. Whilst he had a point both times, f**king stupid thing to do.

NFI what happened with the reds. Was an all in brawl type situation when it happened and we didn't know who'd gone off until we got home.

Also though Johnno looked (sadly) off the pace and Ferrante's work was sketchy all night. Strangely enough the Nix looked weakest down the middle.

I'd be super interested to see a full Nix outfit after last night. More solidity down the middle with players coming back could prove very interestin.

I agree, was the same with the Queensland game, they started off really slowly in the first half.

Such a fantastic result though. I'm still amping. Made an awesome night a heck of a lot better. Bring on wednesday!

Sorry - Dont agree. This is a great moment in our history, our first final of anything, and we can go to town on it!!!

I have watched the Kingz and the Knightz and had nothing for years, let the season unfold as it will but.....

Wednesday we are in the final,, at home!!!

Long live the Phoenix

A long season ahead, yes, but what a way to start.
We should milk this for what its worth. Team morale, team support and extra cash because of wednesday. Plus the promotion of the game/team in Welliington and NZ.

Go the mighty Nix.

Home final has to be celebrated, even if it is only the preseaon, you can't tell me that Sydney, didn't want to be there, or Central Coast or adelaide. They would have all wanted to be involved, adn win it! We have it at home in our second season!

This is aweseom for us, the game in NZ and bodes really well for the upcoming season.

shame johnno wasn't firing, he's usually mr reliable

talking of mouthing off, that was the reason we 'rested' Doddy from his holding role , after he picked up  a yellow for back chat

if the squad as a whole avoid Vinnie Lia's injury 'luck' for the rest of the season we might just be the biggest improvers from last season

Weirdly TV3 told us about the draw last week, but not a mention about a 3-2 win and into a final. No consistency there at all.

problem is they cant source the footage. they are a tv news show, no video = no coverage

Not true. They quickly mention other sports at the end, an acknowledgement is ok
