Figured I'd start the thread now.  Who is travelling down for this one and who from Christchurch will be there?  I've got a group of 5 going - four of them aren't really footy fans so it's great to drag them along.  Trying to force my brother-in-law to go and drag my sister and his brother along as well.

Reason I ask about yellowfever travelling down is although a few thousand are bound to be there it'd be good to have a bit of atmosphere (as opposed to 'Cannnnnnterbryyyyyyy') and the odd clap (if we're playing like we currently are).

Good to see a bit of advertising happening already for it.  Down Memorial Ave there's a large trailer advertisement about 3m high and 7m wide.  Just the usual one with Greenacre standing there.  Add to that I'm going to put a few adverts up at work for staff and customers to see.

Members pick up these tickets from Ticketek @ MFC in Wellington?

Do we need to go and specify whether we need 'Fever' tickets this time around?

Its admirable for the Nix to try and spread the football gospel by taking games on the road and its wonderful for the fine people of Canterbury to see some A-league action but FFS we are in the business of trying to get into the playoffs.

This game is NOT a home game for the Phoenix. All the players say they love being at the ROF in front of the home fans...they play better there....we have not lost there for a year and a half. We are surrendering a significant advantage by not playing at the ROF. The Phoenix football club is not a travelling circus. Man U does not play home games at Grimsby.

The Phoenix is a privately owned football club....its primary aim is to win the A-league....we should leave the promotion of football up to the NZF....thats the end of my rant...I'm sure there will be lots who disagree with me!!!!!!

Yeah, should play at home.  Of course the lumping great stage and 30000 AC/DC fans might present a problem...

And how do you know that?

The primary aim of the club is surely a matter for its owner.

He might want to make money out of it, gain celebrity out of it, generally improve football in NZ with it...who knows.

His call really.

Yeah....the stadium are happy to take the phoenix's rental money all year....but when there are more $$$ in a rock concert its "on your bike son". I still think there could have been a compromise with an other home date or maybe the Basin Reserve.
Great idea relaying the new turf and then having 30,000 rockfans pounding it to dust.....

Same.. Though if anyone has any ideas of a near park with goals then let me know. Qe2 does but it's miles away. so we might have to use the good old shoe trick.

Nothing wrong with Christchurch. more fun than the Ring of Dirt. I'm not happy that this game is being played down there in the first place, but I am still going. CHCH has some good shopping and watering holes. The only real sad thing about the place is that the Burger Bunker doesn't exist anymore but the building opposite where the Wigram Airbase used to be, still exists. I believe it's a clutch place now. They use to serve up the best ever American Style hotdogs!

As mentioned, I can't believe the Westpac Trust have laid a new turf, stopped us from playing on it (It could have been played another time after all) but are happy for a full house of ACDC fans and the stage etc to be all over it. Brainless thinking and one decision on which someone on the trust should be falling on a sword for.

As we are "travelling overseas" (Cook Strait to be precise) are we entitled to duty free shopping??

Anyway, Woolston or Garrick Park would be closer I would have thought?

Yeah big footpaths, and if I remember correctly even some trees / rubbish bins and maybe statues that could get in the way.

I spent 4 months in Christchurch earlier this year and lived across the road from Latimer Square. Looking foward to going back down actually, really wasn't thaaat bad... Casino will be good times.

Do you want to be near AMI? or the town centre?

Garrick Park is close(ish) to AMI, probably a 5-10 min drive away.

Or if the game is to be near the centre of town, Hagley Park has posts up, only about 15 mins walk from the Square.
