Just been looking at a few of the Oz football sites.
Everyone raving about the crowd at the AMI. Amazingly there are lots of Australians posting about how the FFA should look at a A-League franchise in Christchurch. Not straight away but in a few years after the Canberra and second Sydney franchise are settled in.

Who would have thought that Australians would be calling for a another NZ A-league team. People did concede that the situation with the AFC would have to be sorted out but were generally positive.

Obviously a Cantab team would be foreign player dominated but there will be more kiwi youngsters coming through who could play at that level.

Ryan Nelson could be the first skipper...he will be finished in the EPL in a few years....what a player to kick off a new franchise. All they need to do is sort outr the AFC and find some rich guys/companies to put up the money(never said it would be easy)
And why not. If its for the good of football here in new zealand then i hope they do look at chch in the coming years.

Maybe if he had a stint in the A-League people could finally learn to spell his name correctly.

If you are being serious then here are the thousands of reasons encapsulated into one sentence explaining why Auckland will never be a world class sporting city.

I don't have a car. To get to the Shore for me would be an hour or so on public transport. Albany stadium is out in the wops with no handy cheap bars or restaurants. The equivalent would be for the Nix to play their home games at a stadium built in a field somewhere outside Waikanae.

A stadium accessible from all parts of AKL by public transport - like the Ring of Fire - is what would be needed. Also, North Harbour has the Kings/Knights stench of failure hanging around it.

Haha, serious or not this illustrates the exact reason that Auckland won't/shouldn't get another shot at it for a long time yet.

This.

If it comes down to a Wellington crowd scraping 7 000 or Terry actually making a bit of money then I don't think he'll be too worried about inconveniencing the Wellingtonians once in a season.

Oh please, I used to go to games at Albany and NHS from Hamilton and Wellington by car.  Nothing I hate more than Aucklanders whining about the trip to a stadium in Auckland.

As people say, exactly why it won't fly in Auckland.

1500 people at an Eden Park that is built for 60k ?

Way to look credible.

gosh. some of you are going on like chch would get 19k (or 10k+) every year. fact is,no way. it was massive this time firstly because of new stand etc. but also because it was their first decent football in YEARS. if the game was every year, attendance would drop considerably from 19k. do it once in a while, but not every year

Good results (best achieved at home) will increase interest, increase attendance, increase sponsorship and overall return Terry more $$$$

Not sure why we are debating. It was an experiment that worked and it's up to the club to decide if they want to come back. I'd welcome them back here - everyone i've spoken to loved it and wants more. It's only a good thing

I was gob smacked by the crowd numbers, i predicted 12k and honestly that would be the top end of a likely crowd.

I actually don't think too many of that 19k would have gone, just because of the stand. I mean the rugby season starts in 2 weeks, if people really wanted to see the new stand are were rugby fans they would have waited.

I think, it was a perfect evening (weather wise), the Nix are a novelty to Ch-Ch, and there are a lot of football fans down here, and they do tend to support the game when it is played here (generally).

Can't the FFA in the name of love schedule matches around concerts? I'm not sure they really have the desire for the Nix to take home games elsewhere. Then again, they are known to work in mysterious ways.

Anyway, wherever the Nix play, i will follow.

Fantastic effort by Christchurch last night, way above what I thought you would get. So congrats to all who came and created such a good atmosphere

My niece went to her first football match, and joked beforehand how she would probably have to take her knitting to keep from getting bored

Afterwards she was a converted fan. Well done the crowd

they played in chch because they wanted to take the game there. acdc was just an excuse. the scheduling can easily be worked around 1 weekend i would have thought. we couldve played away at adelaide yesterday in a straight swap with whatever round we played away couldve been played at home, for example. simple and really quite possible

Yeah, those who say heaps went for the new stand sound, to me at least, like they're trying to besmirch the great turnout.  Yes it was the first time at the new stadium but they've had several open days for people to see them, and rugby starts very soon.

On another note, the stadium isn't much better (at all) than it was.  Just putting it out there.

It sorted of reminded me of Hindmarsh Stadium, not sure why.  And not because we played Adelaide.

I'm with Loyal Gunner on this, I actually don't think many people went because they wanted to try the new stand out, they had an open day the week before for that. Also I was one who didn't really want this game out of Wellington and I went to the game loved it and feel that they deserve another game next year even if they wouldn't stand up for the phoenix.

"Standup for the Phoenix" chant was pretty pathetic in Christchurch to be honest.  Thought the lads would've realized it wasn't worth doing again and again after the first abysmal failure.  Oh well, the rest were reasonably good.

One chant I wasn't familliar with was the Bertos one.  How does that go?

Over in the Tui Stand I was THE ONLY one who knew any of the chants, songs, even the shirts off routine. Totally pathetic.

- Edit: Except from the young fella's down the front who brought the cover out at half time, they were right into it!

It is almost more accessible to get to Palmy from Wellington than to Nth Harbour Stadium from central or South Auckland.  Even driving it's a pain. The location is frankly uninspiring.

edit: as someone who has been to both stadiums for games.

Pretty much true for quite a few there. The All Whites win in Wellington and flow on from the great atmosphere there had quite an influence on the size of the crowd, however I do know of one family who didn't go because past games in ChCh from the 'Nix have been average. I also know of one family who left at half time last night disappointed at the quality of the game. Both families would be in the category of  "interested" fans rather than real supporters. Given that response I feel ChCh certainly couldn't sustain that sort of crowd through an A league season, but should reach similar figures as the 'Nix get at the Ring of Fire.

TBH I was quite gobsmacked when the dad told me, his boy plays in my club. They were in the Tui stand, so wouldn't have had the best view, bought tickets on the night and couldn't get into the Deans stand which had sold out by the time they got there, says something about their dedication.

The Nix were crap, but in my experience, those that whine about the quality of football and refuse to watch them seem to expect a top of the table Premier League quality match in every game of footballl they watch.  Even the Nix playing well wouldn't change most of those peoples mindsets.

Football snobbery is alive and kicking.
