We'll beat Melbourne but maybe not by much.  Still - Wellington 350k, Melbourne 3.5m

Good point, we're killing them per capita.

No Boca merch

Let me rephrase that.  No Boca Merch through the official Phoenix club sources.

TBH I know a lot of people turned of by the $50+ ticket prices. When have we ever paid that much for a football game in NZ? As much as it's great that they're coming & i'm excited for the game, I'm struggling to justify this expense for the match, let alone what people who don't know a lot about football must be thinking.

Out of interest how much was the Galaxy game that had the Beckham draw card?

Galaxy was $100 I think

I think if we get 12-13k that would be a good effort at that price, for an exhibition match and given the lack of profile Boca has outside the immediate football trainspotter community in NZ.

Backbencher are doing 2 for $10 Coronas on friday night so after a couple of rounds of those the savings would equal the price of a regular season Nix ticket.

at least by my booze powerd maths.

Agree - I like to think of it as a reward for football fans, rather than a shiny marketing campaign match just to draws a big crowd. Glass half full, I guess.

From memory the Galaxy was a bonus that came with a proper Nix game the following night.

Boca doesn't, so i wont bother. I'm over exhibition matches.HarryHotspur2010-07-20 16:15:06

$50 is sod all really. Get your ticket and support the Nix. Who cares who we play. Seeing top pros from South America (though I would have much prefered Everton or Blackburn) is always a treat.

Its no longer a problem.

And don't forget the eight-hour drive downs!

Come on, this a great opportunity to see fantastic players and a truly great team. Far superior to LA Galaxy. I know the appeal to those with a passing interest in football is lower than there was with Mr Beckham, but true football fans should be gagging for this and prepared to shell out the ticket price. Yes, the tickets are steep (I can hardly afford them), and for those who have just splashed out on season tickets I can understand how this game is one too many to pay for. For everyone else... there's Mastercard!

I can't wait for this game. And I can't wait to be back down in New Zealand's finest city. Bring it on!

Exactly : $50 + travel + beers + pre game good luck pokies =  who cares who we play, I am going to watch the nix.

Given that its an opposition of high quality is a bonus, expecially as they are a wee bit unknown....

Exciting times

without trying to be a cheerleader
I say
it's a great thing I lived to see Kiwi's arguing about crowd size
for a team like Boca Juniors
to play a NZ CLUB side here

Phoenix is the best thing for us in ages

Alright, my mates have piked. Something about the cost and needing to save money. I'm taking it personally as they didn't want to spend 16 hours in the car with me. I'm still coming, mark my words!

That'll knock the drive down numbers for the PAX

Remember people, the price of an A-League ticket is sweet FA out of the $80-$120 people paid for tickets to the LA Galaxy game.

$48 for a FZ ticket is a good price in comparison, IMO.

Just noticed last night, we still have some photos and some short videos from that game :)

I don't think NZ is going have a team play this style of football on our soil for many years to come, and to miss it would be a sin. Bit disappointed there's no Palermo or Riquelme, but I'm still a big fan of South American football (minus the diving) and I think we're in for a treat.

I'm making the effort to come all the way from dunedin, so get yer' arses into gear.

As perLG's comments above, the Boca team in the All whites parade at lunch looked like they were a bunch of school kids.  Nix to dominate the physical encounters, in the air and on the scorecard. studsuplads2010-07-21 13:55:46

For those that went to Civic Square.  Just what did John Key say???
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.
