And how does this change WPF's goalkeeping stats?

MASSIVE game for us on new year's eve. We NEED a win. CCM are a tough team and it is not going to be easy. Don't really know about the formation. Too many variables at this stage, i.e. Greenacre's fitness and who to play up front etc.

He did play well - even though he didn't move anywhere when the goal was scored...

Nigel Boogard, upon receiving his 5th yellow a few seconds ago will not be playing against us in this clash.

If we don't win, I will drink myself into a coma. If we do win, I may just do it anyway.

ever since his signing to AU he has been crap, think of it as a boost for the mariners - still our form is really concerning and you guys can definately spoil the party

Definitely spoil a 4 losses in a row party?  We'd have to do something pretty awful for that to happen.

So we have two games in hand on CCM.  They have goal difference of +6 while we have one of +2.  A 2-0 victory could be enough to jump them on the ladder (with a game to go) but to be safe we should probably just win 6-0 again.

EDIT: May be wrong.  I got that from a table which appears to have been wrong.

Wilkinson was immense in the centre defence, a shame he didn't get suspended!

Winning this game will throw us right back into play-off contention.  We must finish at least 6th this season.  Can't see it happening, though, without a bit of new blood during the January window.

And I suspect you just talk for the sake of it the rest of the time.

We clearly need a striker.  Would have considered that reasonably/blindingly obvious.

1) We are already in play off contention.
2) Claiming that we won't make the 6 with the current squad is ludicrous.  We haven't scored many less than any other teams in the league (Melbourne excluded).  And we are only 2 points outside the top six, with a game in hand.
3) Where are we going to get a striker from?  NZFC? No.  State League?  Unlikely?  Overseas?  unlikely...who is going to fly in from overseas to play for a month or so?  Guest? no because you can't have a guest for the last (i think) 6 games.

Other teams seem to have pretty much figured us out (when was Ifill last effective?) and our form has slumped recently.  I mean we drew with Adelaide.  While we are only two points out of it I can still see it being a huge task for us as we lack players in a few vital positions.  Anything outside of a top 6 finish would be a failure and so to not even look for another striker would be daft.  Looking doesn't mean we'd get one but at least have a go.

Ifill was last effective when Greenacre played. Without Greenacre he has to try and hold up the ball + be the creative force which is just too much.

Or atleast a creative midfielder. But we should be able to grind out a win against the mariners i think. Interesting to see what happens with Hearfield and Muscat

I hope Muscat goes back to RB and Hearfield plays in midfield instead of Bertos/Daniel.

His runs against Melbourne were great and it'd be good to see him doing them again without always being required to go right the way back to RB afterwards.

I don't get when people say this.  I'd be surprised if every other team hadn't worked out who our strengths are. They have had 18 games to study us.

I'd be inclined to give Troy a shot upfront, he's quick, reasonable skilled and a lot harder to knock off the ball than Costa

Not sure about Costa up front by himself, he is a little boy, but I guess we have no other options with no other recognised strikers.

I don't think the Mariners will be at all easy. Any team that has lost the last 4 games and has thrashed Melbourne will be hard?

4 wins this season, yep we've got this one in the bank playwithfire. Just like last week

Well CCM did beat Melbourne like 4-0 or something at Etihad, there've had no problems scoring goals.

we have had more losses than wins in 3 seasons. Not good enough. Sack Ricki. Bring in M. Hughes. Done.
