Yeah, radio commentary were suggesting that the Rugby Union call of 15k sold yesterday was 'generous'.
Walk-offs?

What is the atmosphere like?

Saw on the news that the game seemed a bit more open than last season.

Just wondering if 20k+ screaming nix fans will create an impression on the 20 canes that will come along c/o Terry (hopefully including Andrew Hore).

To be fair its still cricket season and (football season) rugby never gets a big crowd at the begining of super 14. Yes AMI got a good crowd at there first home game but they have slashed there ticket prices by almost half. And whats more important is tomorrows first final go nics!!!

its embarrassing for the league that GCU is going to turn out such a poor crowd for a play off match. looks terrible. FFA would much prefer perth or Welly to host next elimination match.

Is it too late to slip GCU some half time lasagne?

I'm driving down from auckland way tomorrow. Any suggestions on where I should aim for to park? I don't mind stretching my legs for a walk to the stadium after the big trip. Suggestions guys please.
If it were me I'd be aiming for Paraparaumu Train station and buying an $8 Stadium return, there is all day free parking and it would shorten the drive. i'd be aiming for the 2.30 or 3pm train.
See my post on the topic "Anyone going on Sunday from HB?"  Good luck with your trip, how/when are you getting home? Wonderful to think people making the effort like this

It's a real smash and grab this trip. I've just finished work now. Take off at 6am. Thoughtwe'd pitch a tent at a holiday park at lower hutt and carry on down to the rof. Head back home in the morning so can be back in time for my daughter to make her footy training that evening.

Depends on how early you get in to Wgtn, but anywhere around the National librabry/Back Bencher (Molesworth St or side roads) is free.  Walk up to the RoF along the concourse (Fran Wilde Walk) is 750 m - a good stretch for the legs.

However as an Aucklander wouldn't you just get your chauffeur to drive around Wgtn for a couple of hours and pick you up afterwards?

In my defence, I live about 50mins drive south of auckland in the country so i promise you i'm the chauffuer on this trip!
When was down for the all white game we hit the bb before the game and the walk to and from the rof all added to the occasion.

Not a bad option, should be plenty of parking at Woburn or Waterloo staions on the Hutt Valley line, can't think off the top of my head where would be a good place to pitch a tent on the kapiti coast, must be plenty of places. enjoy the game and don't get too tired driving.cheers,John

Underachievers hungry for a return to glory days

Perth Glory will attempt to put four miserable A-League seasons behind them with a win over Wellington Phoenix in today's knockout semi-final at Westpac Stadium.

The Glory were the kings of the National Soccer League, winning the last title in 2004 before the competition was disbanded.

The inception of the A-League in 2005-06 brought little joy for the Glory, who became the league's cellar dwellers over the first four campaigns.

But a host of star signings for season five brought long-awaited success as the club secured fifth spot on the table and a maiden A-League finals appearance.

Midfielder Jamie Coyne, who skippered the club last season, experienced the highs of Perth's NSL glory days and has been waiting more than half a decade for Sunday's moment to arrive.

''It has been a long while,'' he said. ''Being a part of the last championship, you wouldn't think it would be another five, six years before you had the opportunity again to play in another final.

''For the big picture, hopefully we can win this weekend and go again the week after.''

Defender Naum Sekulovski jumped at the chance to join Perth when the A-League began and admitted he was surprised he had to wait this long to play finals football.

''The club had a great history in the old NSL and that was one of the attractions, and finally we are here after five years of busting a gut,'' Sekulovski said.

''I've had a great season, played the majority of the games and finally finals football has come to Perth Glory - better late than never.''

Wellington, embarking on their maiden finals campaign, enter the match full of confidence on the back of three straight wins and the knowledge they have not been beaten at Westpac Stadium since October 2008.

But Glory skipper Jacob Burns felt the pressure would be on the home side.

''They've got a fantastic record over there and I think the pressure's on them,'' he said.

''They've been in good form, they'll have a hell of a crowd out there and we are going to go about our game the same way we have all year.

''I honestly believe everyone in finals football has to be careful of anyone. They're one-off games.

''OK, there is home advantage, but you saw how even the league was - you had bottom teams beating top teams.

''Competition across the board is pretty tough and evenly matched.

''So it's whoever turns up on the day and really wants it bad enough.''

Marquee man Mile Sterjovski (back), Burns (hamstring) and defender Chris Coyne (corked thigh) all made the trip to New Zealand, but coach Dave Mitchell said he would make a late call on the trio's fitness.
