Perth captain Jacob Burns, who played 118 minutes in the midfield while nursing a hamstring strain, voiced disappointment at his team's inability to finish their chances.

"We kind of played them off the pitch but if you don't put the ball in the back of the net, it normally comes back to bite you.

Who would agree with that second paragraph??

Those whom received a car parking ticket as the result of extra time are to have their tickets reviewed and the council will probably wipe it - allegedly. Just heard a guy from the council on the radio after numerous complaints along Thorndon Quay etc.

Wow. I still cant beleive we made it through that! Honestly I didnt think we would last that last 15 minutes but what a courages effort by the lads. Really taking it to the next level and geting stuck in. Every player did their part and all should be congradulated! But what a goal keeper Reddy is! A fantastic talent and the team who obtains his signiture next year will be one lucky club! Wow. I'm still so pumped and listening to that radio podcast was amazing! One last thing.... I'm phoenix till I die!

Same, same, in Auckland too.  I arrived with 10 minutes of regular time left.  Discovered a triathlon on, so went to the bar next door.  Only during extra time that I realised it was a gay bar.

Well, at least my drunk middle-aged men took the hint and went away when I gave them a transparently false name. I hope you didn't have to use physical force to maintain your personal space.

But - if they're watching the Nix in the gay boy bars, that means that you guys here who use "fag" or "homo" as an insult had better watch your language and stop alienating our fans. Doloras2010-02-22 12:35:15

Two best songs;
After attendance was announced at 24K plus-
"Where were you when we were sh*t?"
 AND (Classic!);

"I shagged Matilda, I shagged Matilda,
I shagged Matilda and so did my mates,
And she squealed and I laughed as I slipped one in her billabong,
I shagged Matilda and so did my mates"

You may know the tune......

Lowlights-
Turn the poxy music off, or at least keep a couple of tunes that we are all familiar with, every game.
Merrchandising was rubbish, surly buggers with little stock, and that was in grubby condition.
Beer and food was utter crap as usual. When will the stadium start selling decent versions of both?

Highlights-
The crowd
The volume of the crowd
Winning a penaly shooutout (!?!)
The crowd
The Perth boys clapping the Nix fans as they went down the tunnel
The crowd
Reddy.
See you all in two weeks......

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

Far out, this group were too drunk to know what game it was, but did sit up at extra time.
No problems with space but lots of banter.
Every time Fred de Jong said "blocked shot" there was a "whoa hey" from a small group.

I was cacking it the whole second half and after McKain was sent off I was just praying we would make it to penalties which is the first time I have ever done that. Something went a bit sour in the 2nd half, I think Ifill was being closed down, he was a lot quieter in the 2nd and the subs didn't make as much as an effect as I was hoping they would... That was a tense game. I felt that while we played our hearts out, we were quite lucky to make it through. Phew.

bugger, as per usual you need a car to get anywhere of importance in Auckland. Does the train run anywhere near there?

Maybe one of the Irish pubs in the city would accomodate some Kiwi-Austro football from time to time

I love that we held on even though we were outplayed for much of the match.  When penalties looked imminent I was thinking to myself "we are so f-ing lucky to have Reddy in goal right now", and boy did that prove true.  Great match, nerve wracking extra time, sublime penalties.

Yeah Mark Paston has never saved a penality in his life...oh hang on!

Reddy has been and is brilliant however.

Yeah, as others have said, Barfifa is the best one for A-League in Auckland. I've watched about half of this season's Nix games there and it has generally had a decent atmosphere. Not quite as good as watching it at the Ring o' Fire though... I'll be down there for the next one!

Text a half-time from New York. Friend, Brian, had managed to find a means to watch the match. Brian has never been to NZ. He heard about Phoenix through me and has managed to see us live (as in TV live) about four times now!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I don't agree that we were outplayed. We were out-muscled in a few areas, and the Perth players got away with a fair bit that should have been yellow-carded.

If you watch the replay of the first 10 minutes of the game, the ref was calling free kicks for just about any half-decent contact.

As the game wore on, people (Muscat) were getting up-ended, and the referee didn't even slow down to take a second look.

And Burns with his deliberate big shove on Hearfield in the box was a penalty. Hearfield didn't do himself any favours with his dive in the first half though (as the commentators pointed out).

So lesson for the next game - don't dive if you want to get actual penalties awarded.

Thanks, yeah I'll give Bar Fifa a go for the Mexico friendly perhaps. I'm sure doesn't quite beat being at the Stadium, the Bencher or 4 Kings but hey, Auckland will never meet up to Wellington standards :P
As for the Minor Final, I hope to join the punters in the YF minivan!

I'm not saying Pasty couldn't have saved a penalty or two from the glory, but Reddy's arrogance along with the zone's who are yas are a tough combo.  Plus after the Bahrain save Pasty was like "yeah I guessed the right way", whereas Reddy's response was far more confident "I looked at their run ups and went that way".
