COSTA GET A GOAL

Will be good to see Costa get a run, I think he'll be more than ready to make an impact. Hopefully we may see Draper sometime soon too so they can be judged and compared on that basis.

And auskiwi should really get a reality check and a new perspective.

Covs hasn't been doing enough for me and I almost ripped my hair out watching Leilei against QLD (although at least he was getting a bit more involved).

Can't decide who i'd rather see dropped out of Covs and Leilei though.

Bertos has to start on the right, although i've still got visions of his miss. I think I actually cried

Covs was a poor man's James Potter in the last match.

Gao was good, watch it again.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Fact.

I don't really want to have to watch it again..

But I was reasonably sober this time so I feel like I can judge. Yes Gao got involved a lot more and tracked back well, but his end product did my head in. The amount of times he took the wrong option in the final third was ridiculous. Poor mans Daniel me thinks

I think you are talking about every single Phoenix player right there...

All our front men are struggling with the option taking at the moment, seems to me that the only option they can see is the worst one.

And why is that?
Are they all useless or is their leader/coach clueless?

Did anyone here or understand the comment from RH on radio ths morning about Coveny adding value because he "defends from the front"...is this a variation on "attacking from the back"? (may not be perfect quote)

I would prefer strikers to be committed to attacking not having to consider defending?..except to protect the 1 nil lead in the 90th minute.

The negative mindset of the coach is transferred to the players

Gao was and is only good when the ball is played straight to his feet and he doesn't have to do any work. We can have one player like him in the team, I suppose.

All strikers need to be able to defend/pressure in the modern game

Neither.

A settled line up and a bit of form and they will click.

Must be the faries to blame then?
An unsettled lineup the reason now, mmm..
How many games does it take to get a settled lineup, and who un-settling them?

The only good thing about losing to QLD is that now we can actually change the lineup a little.

Bertos in for Kwasnik and Daniel in for Covs/Gao

Whats embarrasing about having a pro football team in wellington, the only one in NZ?

And to have that team actually be competitive against established Australian sides,in a tough and close league

Mustve missed something there.

So may be the following line-up to start:
                      Patson
Siggy     Durante     Doddy         Lochy
       McKain                    Brown

Bertos                                          Gao
                Smeltz            Cov

Ferrante  (MCKain moves back if one of the back 6 replaced)
Daniel or Costa or both?

i'd rather see Daniel start and  Costa on the bench

I agree, tigers. I'm one of those who thinks that Daniel is not getting a decent crack at it, despite the fact that every time he's brought on he seems to immediatly improve our creativity. Costa will be raring to go but it would be better to keep him as an impact player for the last 20 minutes - if needed, that is.

woops, actually stoppy, it looks like i read Corkster's post wrong he had leilie and leo out wide and both daniel and Costa on the bench

so having fixed about nine typos in this post , i'll  stop either drinking or posting

Adding to that StopOut Daniel was one of those who scored goals from midfield last season, something Ricki's now calling on to support Smeltz.

He's gotta be a starter for me.

Keep Leilei and Leo out wide, swap Daniel for Covs up front. Please midfielders, just play the ball into these guys feet, no more knocking it long. If the midfield is up to it, it would be a nightmare for the Glory defence.
Sorry Covs

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

All I know is that i'll be watching Lochead to see how many times he aimlessly boots the ball upfield. To feet Loch... to feet. Pick your times for the long ball, not every damn time.

Oh, didn't even read the post above mine. Exactly edgecumbe, more to feet, less aimless boot upfield, couldn't agree more.

For those going to the game will be at the Brisbane from 3pm

We really need Daniel back in to try and regain some of his form. To be honest he and Gao offer the most potential to be creative. Last season alot of our best attack came down the left flank with Daniel and Lockhead working together. This season Lockhead has hardly been as effective.

Daniel has to stop doing crappy little back flicks that go to no one before he can get back into the first team imo

Slightly off topic I know, but I was chatting to an equally drunken Jezza Christie and Adam Kwasnik and Kwasnik was not a happy man about being dropped! I didn't have the heart to explain, from a fans point of view, why......

But Bertos is by far the best option.

glad to see Ricky change things a bit..I now hope that Costa will get at least 20! personally I would even start him. That way he could get at least 45' and in case the lad is not making a dent in the Glory defense, he could quietly go on the bench. |
realistically though, I don't think Ricky will start Costa. But I still hope he'll get a fair chance.

Have been on the bench a few times and boy does it stink!

Also, what time is the game? I just cannot understand time differences. I know i'm 25 and perhaps it's time to grow up..
but why do you need to use your brain when you smart people are here to help me? :p
