Oh the frustration.
To avoid expounding my views in a long and arduous post here, feel free to check out my matche report at:
http://theythinkitsallover.wordpress.com/phoenix-fc/

If there are two positives two take from this game, they are surely Durante and Ferrante's magic 'taches. Excellent work. If only the football was half as good as the facial hair...

That sucked. It really sucked. Here's what I think should be done. Make Sigmund captain. He's a born leader and a kiwi. Start Daniel. Get rid of coveny. Get Brockie (he at least has a bit of flair and shoots) Give Costa more game time, he looks pretty good and with more game time would gain confidence.  Man, i dunno, tonight was really terrible.  The crossing is really poor and where are the quick one-two's? Pass and move ffs.   I really don't know about lockhead. He should have nailed that guy before the second goal was scored, pull his shirt, chop him, whatever, just don't let him get one on one with the keeper.  It's not just that though, he needs to try and find players feet.

That was rubbish.  Fed up with football like that.  Costa was mighty average.

Hope Smeltz does better (and gets better service) at Adelaide or the Gold Coast.

And their first goal was dreadful, what was Paston doing?

Waiting for Tony P to come on and make sure you all know how much the team is hurting and how you all need to keep the faith blah blah blah.

From Foxsports last few paragraphs ...... interesting reaction .....

 http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24591725-5000940,00.html

Wellington boss Ricki Herbert was satisfied with how his men performed around the pitch but bitterly disappointed not to see enough scoring chances.

"It was disappointing because we had a good start when they offered nothing but then we gave away a silly goal and couldn't get it back. We were up for it and a couple of poor decisions we made cost us,'' Herbert said.

"We just have to do a lot better with the ball. The last few games the possession stats haven't been favourable to us but we've got something out of it, but here it was the opposite and that's disappointing.''

Perth normally play sh*t in Wellington and Wellington normally play sh*t in Perth.

Remember the travel, when I go over in a few months. I expect the Glory to lose...It is the second longest trip in world football.

Don't be to hard on the nux.

Oh yeah, I think Bevan had a good time out in Perth after the game to drown his sorrows

If he does I doubt the response will b positive, its the same old story - the lads are hurting and will fight back. Time for fighting back was the first loss to Perth, to play worse the second time is season ending in my books!

Really disappointing performance last night. Perth have conceded the most goals in the league yet we, in two games, still havn't put oe past them.

Hope he dosnt even bother they have shown buggar all, wonder what happened to the supposed superior match fitness we were supposed to have.Seems its must be lost in the same place as any passion and desire.I bloody hope they get their arses worked off in Sydney and its not just a fun week away for them.

Highlight of the game was the ballboy getting smacked in the face.

I am sorry but that was nothing short of garbage. Aimless in the final 3rd and no one witht he exception of ferrante late on looked like even trying to shoot. Team chemistry is non existent. Smeltz is fed up with rubbish service. Gao should get on a plane now, his work ethic is pathetic. Daniel looked woefully out of touch as well when he came on in the last 20 minutes and made at least 4 balls to no one. The commentators were right talking about the phoenix's turnover rate because it was horrific.

No creativity and im sorry but we need to get coveney out of the starting line up. he may be good for 20mins at the end but is coming to the end of his career and is not doing himself any favours. Costa looked ok but he needs some more time. I agree with earlier posts that we could do much worse than signing Brockie because at least he shoots. Bertos had his best game so far I thought, took players on and put in the best of our crosses. He can not finish though so the wider we play him the better service he should provide with good pace.

This is our team. Professional footballers, they have all day every day to work it out and yet time and time again wrong options are taken, wrong balls are played and almost always hit too hard. Another basic is never pass the ball to a team mate in a worse position to yourself and this happens all too often.

Again bottom of the league and I struggle to see how we will get off the floor after yet again losing to a team close to us on the table. How a team can dominate posession all day but yet be so inept when it comes to decisions and accuracy in the final third is simply not acceptable.

Another rocket is needed by Terry to both coach and players because with the exception of Sigmund, Durante, Ferrante and Bertos I have seen more spine in a whitebait than the phoenix at the moment.

Shoot on sight should be the plan going forward, inside, outside the box, whatever lets just at least try to trouble the scorers.

I thought Daniel looked decent to be honest. Him, Costa and Ferrante all tried to create something.

However, it is very hard to pass to people who do not move, which is the problem we have.

In terms of a play off place this season is over.

For me the rest of the season is about rebuilding the credibility of the Nix and establishing a base to build on for next season.

Tolerating Lei Lei's piss poor work ethic and "using the Nix to get back in to Europe" attitude is unacceptable - it sends the wrong message to his team mates and the supporters - he can pack his bags and f**k off now.

Coveny only got his starting place back after tossing his toys in public - again wrong message to give his team mates and supporters. He is still useful coming off the bench with 20mins to go but he shouldn't be starting - when he starts he paces himself and his work rate isn't good enough.

We should be;

Rewarding the attitude we want to see in our players - epitomised by Sigmund. Leo did more work than the rest of the front players put togther. Costa looked keen and ran hard when he came on - reward him - give him more game time. Daniel also looked keen - reward him. Hearfield, when played earlier in the season, was another who gave it his all - get him back in the lineup. Ferrante also played with passion. Play the players who give a sh*t.

Continuing to develop the defense - in Sigmund, Durante, Dodd and Lochhead we have the makings of a very good back 4 - continue to let them play unchanged. They will serve us well next season.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

I had a miserable day at work on Friday

I had an urgent task that needing finishing, with plenty of people relying on me.
I was fired up on the way to work and sure it'll be done on time.
I arrived at 9 and got started, then sure enough, just after getting on a roll another department dumped more work on me. It put me behind, but I soldiered on. To make it worse, whenever I started to make inroads my phone would ring or I got distracted by emails, meaning all momentum was gone. There didn't seem a way to finish. I tried to figure out a way at lunchtime by talking to my team members and we went back to the office with good intentions, but sure enough, my open-door policy meant more interuptions and I got even further behind.

By afternoon tea time my brain had gone awol and by this time I was playing solitaire on the PC. I had enlisted some staff to help out but two of them had been tried before and they have never delivered in the past and the young fulla had plenty of enthusiasm but had never finished a job of this magnitude.

The end of the day came and I had got nowhere. I thought to myself "oh well, there's always next week"
On arriving home my partner asked how my day was.
I replied "same sh*t, different day"
I need a new job.

I do not mind watching a team that lacks quality but tries. Last season was a mile better than the sh*t we've been dealt this season

I thought it was great to finally give Costa a run. He's got the speed and creativity to be able to work with Smeltz. Not a fan of Cov's although his work rate was high at the start of the season you can see it all taking its toll! I also thought Bertos running at defenders was class and causing headaches for their backs. My other question is WTF happened with the corners? There had to be at least 3 that we had that never made it higher than their shins...WTF...

For the umpteen time the simple fact is this squad is not good enough for the A-League.  Time for Terry S, Ricki and Tonp P to recognise that.  Only five goals (not counting penalties) and we're half way through the season - what a joke! The scary thing is that Tony P is reportedly trying to resign a whole bunch of them.

The under 17 women's football is far superior.  Watched the England/Nigeria and Brazil /Korea games at the stadium.  The football was absolutely magnificient.  These girls, who are only 14-16 years old, are fantastic athletes and hugely skilful.  They provided real end-to-end entertainment for 90 mins.  Their skills, effort and entertainment value are far superior to anything I've seen the Phoenix produce this year, and I've seen all the games.  The crowd atmosphere was also fantastic.  And they only charged 10 bucks for both games.

And I agree with Coxey, lets sign a guest player who might provide some spark. Fred would be perfect, whats he up to at the moment?

At least she can take decent free kicks and corners.

Agree with that. It was rubbish. Also gutless.

Smeltz is playing like a man with other things on his mind (maybe a contract to go and play elsewhere)?  If he doesn't pull up his socks and start scoring again, I can see his price dropping by the minute.

Costa needs more game time. Nothing else will bring out whatever this young guy has to offer. A short burst in the second half when we're already in the can is no way to show what he can/can't deliver.

AND - I'm fed up with crappy corners. Gao took several last night, low and hard to the edge of the box where they were easily knocked away. Wasted chances. And Daniel constantly hits his share of duds too, often landing them behind the net. Inexcusable at this level. And it's been like this all season!

(Just spotted brumbys comments above on the same subject so I'll throw them in again here - "WTF happened with the corners? There had to be at least 3 that we had that never made it higher than their shins...WTF..."

Sad to say, but on last night's performance, looks like the only prize the Nix are going to end up with this year is the wooden spoon. Again!
