Griffiths was very good at left back I thought.

Ifill was class.

Ward had about 10 seconds of brilliance.

Tim Brown was sh*t.

The Courier Mail are leading with a story with a picture of Berisha celebrating a goal. Looks like they were a little presumptuous and prepared the story beforehand lol.

Aided and abetted by Brisbane having no plan B when pass it into the net fails....again again again.

I do worry about our lack of tactical subbing tho..

I agree regarding the lack of Brisbane's plan B - no desire to take long(ish) shots or play the ball into the box in the air.

Personally I think Ricki keeping Ifill on as long as he did, was a superb tactical win :D
Probably should remember that not only did they have no B plan but it is still kinda Brisbane B.  No Broich, no Henrique.  But we'll take it :)  Only one side in it really, apart from the aimless possession stat.

If Griffith can play RB as well then that's where he should be next week and unleash Manny to midfield.  Brown can have an early holiday.

DP headline?: Ifill scores off deflection and Ward grabs one against the run of play.

was watching 5 mins delayed due to live pause, couldnt log on and join the fun, just read the match thread - gold

ifill i love you
ricki big ups
well done griffiths, he matched the rest of our back four in being their usual brilliant selves - best defensive unit in the league?
ward's nicely taken goal and numerous intercepts over-shadowed some poor touches, but overall well done i think

one last thing

if the phoenix players and management knew exactly what lengths ahmad went to in the lead up to this game, im sure they'd join me in dedicating this win to him, he thoroughly deserves it. Ahmad, you are unbelievable, i have a man crush

Very similar to how we played all season yet I don't see the 'Ricki plays too defensively' brigade out in full force..surprise surprise.

Great win. Ifill out again is a big blow - has to be a few weeks at least.valeo2011-12-14 22:36:56

If the Roar want to know why they don't score more goals the answer is very simple.
When you get free kicks on the flanks, you take your time(so that all the Nix players can get behind the ball) and then you chip it in.
Compare this with breaking quickly, getting it wide, have got the defenders on the rack, and then play the ball back, giving the defence time to get players behind the ball.
If I can see it, surley Ange can see it. They only got the ball in early twice, and that was in the last 10 mins.
It shows that although we can't compete for ball retention, we know when to play the early ball in.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Have just got back from the game, bloody brilliant result.

I completely disagree with the crowd figure.  The north stand was about 3/4 full and with a few on the south side I thought it was closer to 7 - 8,000.  Where did the 4,000ish figure come from?

And according to TV3 not only has Liam Reddy re-signed with us but he's scoring goals as well.

Wed, 14 Dec 2011 9:35p.m.

The Wellington Phoenix downed the Brisbane Roar 2-0 tonight at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin tonight.

Goals were scored by Pail Ifill and Liam Reddy.

Both sides were missing key players due to injury or suspension.

Re the free kicks, I also found that odd, especially as Roar won nearly all of the corners and looked extremely dangerous in the air. That must have won at least 5 free kicks on the wings which they simply passed sideways or backwards, playing right into our hands.

They other reason they lost is because they had Adnan.

Ward for me, adds more energy and directness and pace than Sanchez, who is less mobile and while a neat and tidy player, is just not dynamic enough to play that role in behind the striker.

Bummed I missed most of it due to work (damn time zones!).

At this point I must put my hand up and eat humble mince pie. I said we would be wooden spooners. I was right about Toto however (I was right about something once).

Yes it does matter as Dunedin will want to get another game in future years.  Midweek and no students in town is not a good recipe. I was  at the game and thought the crowd was between 6-7 K.  Great result.

Well done Ahmad, top notch effort yet again! You could really hear the fever loud and clear in the second half. I hope that you are well looked after at the Kings next week.

What a result by the way. Bring on Rojas & Co.

I need to eat. Haven't really eaten all day. Did I have lunch? Thinking hard about it.... um. I think it was just a bit of a late breakfast. Oh wait there was that. Oh I'll go grab some food (I won't fry though) and be back to type out the report.
